did ellen degeneres just say, on behalf of covergirl, that inner beauty isn't as important as outer beauty?

i could have sworn that's what i just heard come out of her mouth on that oil of olay age defying makeup commercial.

I think that, considering what she represents and what she usually defends, it could have been done in a more subtle and sober way, and it would have been even funnier then.

There's something odd to me, in this commercial, it's like we could take her words as it is...

^ i think that they (CG) don't figure teen girls see Ellen as one to emulate, and that they won't be looking at the "simply ageless" commercials anyway.

This doesn't bother me. It does bother me that Ellen is vegan (recently i believe), and always goes on about how much she loves animals, yet she is a spokesperson for Covergirl, one of the absolute WORST perpetrators of Animal testing in the beauty industry. That is really hypocritical imo, which sucks, cause otherwise i really like Ellen.

Shame on Covergirl, because if they meant for it to be funny surely they could have come up with something better than that. Idk, her tone doesn't seem to be joking. I am a little bothered by it, but I'm not going to go write a letter to CG about it, ya know? But I know that younger people do watch Ellen's show, which is were the clip posted above was from. That worries me a bit.

that's my issue...and, even though girls in that age bracket may not look up to ellen, they're still very impressionable and still buy into alot of what they hear/see on television, no matter who's showing/saying it...

To me, it's clearly a joke and this product isn't aimed at anyone impressionable anyway. Ellen is a well known comedian and the rest of the commerical isn't serious either since she's making all those faces.

Right. If you ever watch her show or see her standup she says off the wall shit with a totally straight face. It's her comedic style. I think CG is banking on the viewer realizing that, especially since the product is marketed toward older customers. But, I guess they missed the mark if you guys find it inappropriate.

^Maybe so but my stepdaughters pay about 1 sec of attention to commercials unless Hanna Montana, Rihanna or similar are on them..Guess that is a good thing for me...

Ellen is not someone I look up to for fashion or beauty advice as I've only seen her wear her hair or clothing the same style. Now if she tried to copy Pink, I might take notice but she's a little bland to me personally. I love her sense of humor, attitude and how she jumps in to causes but she's not a fashion pioneer. Her wife is someone I would look to out of the pair but this commercial was done in jest. She is marketing a product but doing it half heartedly and I hope people don't take it too serious.

She does have good skin for being older and I never noticed how amazing her eyes are. Still not my beauty guru but have to give her credit.

I can't believe she said that! I'm sure it was supposed to be funny...but it doesn't really come across that funny in the commercial

I like and watch Ellen (have for years) and I didn't get a 'joking' vibe off her when I saw that commercial. I was actually rather disappointed, because I couldn't see her being like that.

Yeah, she's totally poking fun at herself in that commercial. The entire thing is about how she's not the standard 'Cover Girl'. I imagine she faced quite a bit of trial trying to 'make it' in Hollywood and not fitting the standard mold. I see this commercial as making fun of it.

Also, I don't get the whole 'protect the chilld-drun' thing. Have a positive and active influence on your child's life. Please don't make the world do it for you.
