Disappointed in collections...

I love MAC probably 90% of all my make up is MAC but the collections they have been coming out with just seem..... done before

I don't know if I'm the only one who feels like this lately but...... WHY ARE ALL THE COLLECTIONS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAMN DISAPPOINTING?! alot of the collections have eyeshadows lipsticks pigments...etc. that arent limited!

the cult of cherry collection
satin taupe
tempting
deep truth
shadowy lady
russian red
none of those are limited colors
the tempting quad with the green color looks just like eyepopping
and the spiced chocolate quad as a color just like cranberry
i saw the collection on the internet... went to the counter to check it out and i was like alright im not going to spend 36 bucks for something that i already have

Emanuel Ungaro
freckletone
phloof
you can get those anytime... freckletone is a pro color but you can order it online or go to a store and get it

and i know of more collections that have alot of repromotes... just annoys me that i get so excited then i go see the collections and im like ok.... i have most of these colors already or colors that are pretty much the same shade

the heatherette collection and fafi collection... i didnt get ANYTHING from those collections... they were all so boring i would have expected bright crazy colors especially from those collections

i havent been super excited for any collections since barbie loves mac and baloonacy.... anyone else feel like i do?

I have to say that I can understand where you're coming from. Maybe you're reaching or have reached what I like to call your "MAC apex"? It's when your collection is pretty much where you want it and you only see an occasional product or color that grabs your fancy. That's exactly where I am these days, and I don't think it's a bad thing.

I do, however, get really annoyed about new collections with a bunch of things that have been repromoted ad nauseum. Or the "new" collections full of perm items. Just every now and then I'd love to be thrown a bone like they did with repromoting a highly loved and prized item, like they did with Parrot e/s! They need to do this more often, if for nothing more than keeping the devoted old heads a little more interested, excited and hopeful!

I completely agree, I want more limited shades and colours with collections. Not stuff that's already out re promoted in funky packaging. MAC are loosing a huge sale point here!

I have to agree with someone else in that you probably have a large collection so a lot of the colours can be duped but it is disappointing that things that are permanent keep showing up in collections.

I agree with MAChostage. If you've been collecting for a while, you're going to have a breadth of products and are bound to find that you have something that is similar to ones coming out.

I guess I'm just wondering what can be done that has yet to be done? I probably only say that because I'm a MAC novice (I've only been really "into it" since Fafi).

The only thing that's frustrating is repromoting something a billion times. How do I have more than one Deep Truth already??

i know i feel like this because i DO have a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeee make up collection but i know people who dont and they get all excited when they see new collections and im with them and they want to buy something and i say 'that isnt a limited color, they carry it all the time' and my friend will say 'then whats the point of having a limited collection thats not really limited'

MAC is amazing
but..........I NEED TO SEE SOME NEW STUFF!
crazy colors! neons glitters pigments! ANYTHING!

i would LOVE if MAC came out with a collection of ONLY glitter liners!

i hope i havent hit the MAC plateau.... :-/

I don't think I'm disappointed in MAC collections anymore... I think it's more like I'm not impressed enough to buy anything. I do have a large collection, and I think I've just reached a point where I have most everything I could need. I can easily pass on things because they're similar to something else, or I know I just wouldn't get a lot of use out of it no matter how pretty it is. I've also been into makeup long enough to know what I will and won't use, so while something may be gorgeous and other people love it, I can walk away not feeling like I'm missing out if I know I wouldn't use it. Obviously it's just me though, and not MAC, because plenty of other people get excited over and purchase a lot from the LE collections.

While repromotes are frustrating, not all MAC customers are die-hard fans, or have used MAC for very long... the ones who don't purchase all the time, or are new to MAC are introduced to perm items through these collections.

This is kind of random but I was totally disappointed in this year's holiday Smoky Eyes palette. They already came out with those exact colors in the two Smoke Signals quads!

I agree with everyone here, really. I loved the first half of the year but honestly since summer I've been very disappointed. And part of it is I've been collecting since 2003 so I have quite a bit and ALOT of what's out now is repromotes or very easily duped. And alot of the collections are focusing on colors I just don't use for myself like reds or pale nudes or really super warm colors. The first half of the year was more pinks and corals so I can always find something for me. But I am excited about next years collections, like Brunette Blonde Readhead and Chill. So I never lose hope with MAC, makeup trends are cyclical just like fashion and right now it's just not my cup of tea.

I thought this was funny...the MA at Nordies this week was trying so hard to get me to buy the Smokey palette and finally I was just like "It looks just like last years...." and she goes, "Yeah, you're right, never mind."

I'm sick to death of quads coming out with 2 of the colors already in the permanent line. It's such a rip off! I know that they market those to people who don't have a lot of eyeshadows, and want 4 that they know will go together, but god if I have to have Deep Truth one more time I'm going to flip out.

That Shadowy Lady quad was a disgrace...they had the gorgeous Smudged Violet color (which is why so many people bought it) with two regular-line shadows and a highlight color that was absolutely nothing special. Not to mention, Shadowy Lady eyeshadow is the worst matte e/s to work with ever.

Also with Ungaro, I mentioned this in another thread but on the website, Freckletone lipstick was listed on both the ungaro page and the regular page, and they used 2 different descriptions! For the same lipstick! It was clear they were just hoping to sell more, which is so absurd.

I love MAC but sometimes they're so frustrating.

to be honest i haven't been 'omg wow!' over a collection this year since naughty naughticals! sure i bought a couple of items from every other collection or so but seeing as my mac collection isn't that big and i still haven't bought much... well it says alot.

even red she said i've lost interest in because the more i look at the trio's the more i think do i need them? i want danger zone but only for teh red - and seeing how small the red part is i don't think it's worth it

I liked some of the collections this year, a lot of the e/s shades I don't already have so was good in that way. However I think the sheer number of collections that are being released is overwhealming to the point that I'm not really excited about them coming out. Releasing 3-4 collections at a time isn't needed, MAC!!

Well since most are frustrated at how many collections we get at once, what do you think is the ideal time frame to release new stuff?

I'm new-ish to MAC so I'm grateful for all the repromotes that I missed first time around (Petticoat, anyone?!).
MAC knows it's always gaining new customers so it's common sense to repromote the most popular things to get the newbies hooked. Not everyone is a die-hard fan either, so they may not have any dupes or 'seen-it-before' moments. I don't see the fuss TBH. If you don't like/want it, don't buy it. I don't mean that to be as bitchy as it sounds

Honestly, I'd be happy about a new (good) collection every month or two. That way you could buy what you knew you wanted immediately, and of course there's always items you want to think about. It'd give you time to decide on those without worrying about another collection coming right behind it. Just my two cents. I don't know how everyone else feels, but I'm not as excited over the LE hype anymore anyway.

I'd be more than happy with one a month...12 stellar collections for an entire year would be awesome. It leaves plenty of time to stock up on the regular line, plus it would give MAC more time to really put together something special. It's always quite clear when MAC has an "in-between collection" that isn't remotely special, yet it kills time between the good collections (Suite Array, blech! If it weren't for those pearlglide liners~)

Quarterly would work for me. Four really nice collections a year would be perfect!

Yep, I'd be happy with this amount. They'd be regular, but we wouldn't be bombarded with new LE's constantly. This way the collections hopefully wouldn't have the 'same old' pieces that many of them have done recently.

I know I have bitched about the number of collections and items promoted, but I have to say that I am almost relieved that some items are regular in each Collection. It gives me a chance to breath.... and to remember how good some items really are!!! Satin Taupe - yes everyone complains, but this is such a fabulous e/s it really has a place in re-promotions!! And it gives people who are new to Mac a really good introduction through Collection Promotions to perm items that they can rely on
