Disaster w/MAC depotting :(

I bent a fork and I hold my pots over an element on my stove. I couldnt find matches and was so desperate to depot. But, doing it over the stove totally works - just keep it on low heat. The plastic gets soft but doesnt actually melt/drip on the element. It's great.

Could you possibly buy a few cheap e/s in pots to practice on? I'm not sure what you have available over there in the US but it would be better in the long run to spend a few $$$$ to practice.

I agree with all the comments here about letting the plastic melt properly - when I started depotting I didn't wait long enough and when I tried to push the pan out it wouldn't, so I simply began heating it again until the pan would move more easily. I also followed the candle method but instead of a candle used a long lighter (looks like a lighter but has a long arm to light stoves, barbecues, etc). It worked a treat. I also began with 2 eyeshadows that I wouldn't cry over if I broke them (and were easily replaceable) and the candle method worked fine first time.

that sucks. i tried my first depotting session a month ago and had minor knife to the shadow incident

i use the baking method which i think is super easy, just pop it in the oven for a few mins set to 350 just the the glue melts and then pry it out easily.

I've never had a depotting casualty- I've done about 30 shadows. The closest I've had to a tragedy was taking a chunk out of Filament while placing it into the palette. Lol, but that's okay, filament is kinda crappy anyway!

I use the candle method. What makes it suuuuper easy is to get a pair of those crappy metal tongs- the ones that are basically just bend wire. The plastic pan fits perfectly and it's held stable through the entire process, meaning no dropping, cracking or denting your shadows! ^_^
