MAC is only marketed by Lauder. They don't have creative influence or end all be all power. MAC is still controlled largely by the MAC people. That is how it was explained to me by my Lauder educater, once upon a time.
MAC has gotten enormous, it is no longer the quirky little secret, it has become main stream and things DO change once it is no longer exclusive. Having to put out 10,000 eyeshadows has a H*&( of a lot of different demands than 10 million.

Also, since they want to market to a larger market they are going to have more neutrals. As much as I like aqua and shimmer this line has to make a certain amount of $$ to stay in all dept stores. Not everyone is a make-up junkie so in order to branch out they are going to introduce things that appeal to the masses. It is a double edged sword, do I want 5 MAC counters in a 10 mile radius or an entire line of aqua shimmery stuff ( which I would roll in).

ALthought I do think the LE's have gotten CRAZY, but they are just responding to the demand.

One of the problems I deal with everytime I make a purchase is I am wondering what color being released is a dupe of which color that has already released. Alot of there colors are exactly the same but a different finish (matte - veluxe)

I'm quite new to MAC and I can't keep up with all these new collections, I wish they would just slow down a bit.

Couldnt have said it any better....at our counter, yes we do get the occasional MAC Addict from time to time, but the majority of the clientele comes in looking for " a beigy neutral lipstick".....yawn!! Also, Gold Dusk Pigment and Summer Neutral e/s sold out in less than a week, whereas Overgrown e/s from the Culturebloom Collection ONLY got attention from the addicts....If you think about it though, MAC only releases 5-6 BIG collections a year, and then in between they will release a few "mini" collections (think See Thru Color collection)...so its not all that bad...The only gripe I would have towards the company would be: What has happened to releasing a unique matte eyeshadow?? It seems like every collection now offers only lustres (which I HATE HATE HATE) and frosty colors...(think Sweetie Cake)..Dont get me wrong, I'm hands down obsessed with my beloved Veluxe Pearls, but I miss me some mattes (which I love using in the crease, for example)....Another thing that bothers me is the fact that every new color looks the same as a previous color that had been released or something in the permanent line..

.....I really think its been a super long time that MAC hasnt released any eyeshadows that have really wowed me..(for example The Liza Minellie Palette, and the Diana Ross ones were so beautiful and unique, and lets not forget the Chromezone ones( Im referring to the first Chromezone collection and not the second)....At our counter, we've actually spoken about getting some counters together and writing MAC a letter with a couple of requests...MAC's product purpose is for pro usage, I hope they dont forget that....and everyone knows that people want what the makeup artists use, that pro feel..I on one hand, did not feel that pro feel with Sweetie Cake, for example..
With this said, I love MAC and its innovative products...I dont have a problem with collections being released ever so often, seeing that most of the time its "mini" collections (like the Studio Fix Fluid for example)......And I think that even if MAC where to slow down their collection releases and bring it down to every 2 months for example, many people, especially the addicts, would get a bit bored and start anticipating the coming collections and wish they were released sooner (Admit it!)...

last year at this time D'Bohemia was a real snore fest (i only bought afew eyeshadows and thats it!). if you notice they also have a trend with their colour stories - certian things they bring back up just reincarnated or very very simmilar even the names...

like beau vs. sweetiecake

D'Bohemia vs. sundressing

madame b. vs. culturebloom

i dunno maybe they run out of ideas and see what was popular last year..

I have to admit it and agree, I have actually even thought of this myself. I hate that I am constantly feeling broke b/c of MAC but I would die of boredom if they were released like every 2 months or w/e I would be sooo anxious. I do wish they could space it out a lil more apart like once a month or like one every 3 weeks lil or big but right now I will just enjoy all the new stuff and deal w. being broke.

I agree. Of the last few collections I haven't bought ANYTHING because I haven't been inspired by them at all. A lot of the LE items are also really similar to already existing products so it seems like they're just trying to make money without doing something more creative...I mean how many dupes are there of Parrot by now? Or of Expensive Pink? They should invent different shades not just keep re-creating existing ones, I think.

Also, they've been making really gimmicky products, like those weird pot glosses with the Sweetie Cake collection, or the cheek stains, the glitz glosses with the Rebel Rock collection...useless stuff, imo.
