Next time he pulls this shit, smile at him and say "well now I know why your family left you here."

That's awful, he's completely out of line. Old fart or not, that's inappropriate for ANY age. FYI - your employer has a legal responsibility to protect employees from sexual harrassment, whether it be from co-workers or customers (patient in your case). Once you've reported the incident to them, and once you've told him to stop (which you've done), it's up to them to make sure you do not continue to be sexually harrassed.

Quick question: would the office object to having another person (male) in the room while you work with this man? Like a male nurse? I have a feeling another person may temporarily stop this problem.

While I don't think the office would object, the family would have to pay for it. It's a good idea in theory, but I don't think it's going to happen; the family is only begrudgingly paying for the care that's in there now!

No, seriously though...Originally, care was in there for his wife (she is now in convalescent care)...but he is pretty well crippled up with Arthritis. He's ambulatory, but only with assistance. Other than that, he's pretty physically healthy.

LOL!!!!

And, PigmentJunkie: You're absolutely right! That's exactly what my sister said. They can be, umm....how to put this...laxadiasical in that dept....I mean, there's $$$$$ involoved....they don't want to lose a paying client...which shows where their priorities are (coughpocketbookcough).

Here's my 2 cents....his behavior really should have been "nipped" in the bud the very first time that he made a comment. But since it was allowed to continue, then you really have to take a strong stand now.

Personally, with me he would have 1 more chance...the second something hinting towards inappropriateness would be strongly dealt with (professionally of course) and if he made any personal remarks again I would fire him as a patient.

Patients can fire us as nurses and request that someone else provide care, and we have the same right. THe right to be treated with dignity and respect.

When the patient and the family make statements like "He really likes you the best" or "You provide the best care for him" I would thank them for the compliment, and then point out that you are part of a team of professionals that strives to provide the best care for all of the patients/residents and that there are plenty of qualified individuals that can provide care. By making such statements they are playing a part in staff-splitting. It may be flattering, but it's really unacceptable.

Good Luck!
