lately around my school they have been having a ridiculous amount of fake marriages. and i mean they go ALL out, flowers, certificates, rings, you name it. i myself think its ridiculous, at least once a week i get at least 2 invitations to go to one of these things at lunch and the person they are marrying isnt even their boyfriend/ girlfriend. i really dont see any point in these.

I can't see much point in it either but as long as it's not hurting anyone and folks want to do it then who are we to complain!

Generally these are part of a class such as "life after high school", where they have faux weddings, divorces, childcare, etc. to give people a sense of the reality of these things, that they aren't always what they seem in the movies, etc.

It sounds a LOT like real life - people spending ridiculous amounts of time planning a wedding without thinking about the actual marriage that follows. :p

Are they doing it for a class? I've heard of it at a few high schools, but all mine ever got was the flour babies.

nope not for class and people that do it arent the people that are trying to get ready for real life either.

Wow, things have changed since I was in HS. Everyone I know was avoiding a long relationship much less a pretend marriage.

Do they actually marry or just have the celebrations? Whoops, what I mean is, is the marriage legally recognised, or just a lark? I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would fake marry, other than in life-threatening circumstances (fleeing totalitarian regime etc).

This discussion just reminds me of how I had a fake marriage to my very first boyfriend in first grade. He gave me a little plastic ring from a gumball machine and we said we would have our honeymoon at Red Lobster. We also got in trouble for having our wedding kiss on the playground. I was six, of course, and thought this was all wonderful. Ah, memories.

Yeah. Its stupid. One of my best friends got engaged (Shes 15).
They had been dating for a month. Then he cheated on her and she was heartbroken.

Its just so....theres not even a word for how stupid it is!
