The loophole is if British gov't is anything like US and can't control a woman's reproductive system. If the law reads you get money if you're this poor and have this many children, they probably can't legally add "as long as you don't have any more." It would probably count as some kind of discrimination, too.

The laws should tell people that if they're receiving assistance, they have to work so many hours a week. Make clauses if they have kids who can't go to school yet, but make them work at least 20-30 hours every week. There are enough small jobs that don't take that much time or skill for people to do.

the thing that gets me is that the husband COULD of had a job but he just 'didnt want it' so he is perfectly able to work

in the article he says that they are not 'scroungers'

yet later she says they don't want their children to grow up and scrounge off the dole

yet they say they are NOT scrounging yet she completley contradicts the whole thing

(dole is basically money you get for being unemployed as a 'benefit' off the government)

A cap if you're an abled person makes the most sense. The gov't, if somehow life failed people along the way, should offer some basic classes that'll get people up to snuff to at least be able to type, answer a phone, and very basic office tasks.

It's interesting...Texas has the cap, I'm almost sure of it. I remember hearing about it back in 03 when I had to apply for assistance.

what else i want to know is were these children planned or not?
if planned surely you would stop to think can i even afford to provide for them?
since they were living in a 3 bedroom house before it surely can't give the children the best possible home situation well until now..

there is no 'maximum' time you can go on claiming benefits like these are doing as far as I am aware however anything child related stops when the child is old enough and leaves school gets a job etc.
i am almost sure the parent 'has' to get a job as soon as the child is 5 years old as it can go to school however as some of their children are under 5 this does not apply yet.

If those kids weren't planned then that woman wins the award for the stupidest person on Earth. No functional person of her age doesn't know what causes pregnancy.

I have no problem whatsoever saying that these people are a freaking disgrace. I would be down right ashamed to be them. I find it particularly ironic that she does not work outside her house, leaving her to watch her children and one of them still managed to burn down their other house.

Unfortunately, this is endemic of the British system where people who sit on their asses and do nothing are handed everything while hard working people are shit on. It is WAY worse than the US system.

Personally, I hated them when I started reading the article and saw what stupid names they gave their kids.

The US Welfare system is SCREWED UP so badly. It seems like if you are an able bodied person and you work for a living and you apply for assistance, you don't get it because they take the amount of money that you make BEFORE taxes and bills and use that against you. But if you are just lazy and don't work, they will give you welfare just like that. Ugh. I know there are people out there that really need welfare but most of the people are just milking the system it seems.

I kind of feel bad for their kids. Besides the names, it must be terrible having it placed in the news your family leaches off the gov't.

what drives me mad

is as far as the goverment are concerned there giving you the amount of money they think you need to get by on.

and that exceeds the minimum wage

so basically there saying that the minimum wage isnt enough to live on???

This family is a disgrace. If you cannot afford to have children on your own, without gov't assistance, don't have kids. I cannot believe how they're taking advantage of a system that is meant to help the truly unfortunate. All they're doing is showing the UK government that the system isn't working as is, and screwing over people who might actually NEED welfare in the future.

"Not spongers" my ass.
