in general i have to say that the indivdual brushes is always a better degree of quality than the sets. that being said, i still love having the shorter handled SE brushes for travel. this year's fave brush set was really nice this year. even after washing and use, no shedding, and perfect application. so i am very happy with these brushes. there have been a few seasons of *awful* brush quality in the sets. i am hoping that those days are in the past and will stay there

I've heard that the individual brushes are better quality, but I have no complaints about the eye brush set that I bought recently - they're nice and soft and the quality is almost as good as the ones that I have bigger versions of - I use the set brushes just as much.

I did buy an older SE brush that ended up shedding quite a lot though.

I bought a brush set last year and also one this year and love them. I have several regular sizes of the brushes too and really don't notice too much of a difference. Actually my full size 187 is the second one in a row I've gotten that sheds horribly. My full size fan duster brusher is killer though. I love my foundation brush I got in my brush set last year, it's just as good as my regular one and I actually like the shorter handle better.

you should e-mail MAC about this. I have 2 full-sized 187s and they don't shed at all, may've lost a couple of hairs in 6 months.

I pretty much agree with what was already said. Some might not be quite as soft as the individual brushes, but they're still pretty nice.

I absolutely loved my Diana 239, then my 4-year-old niece gave it a bath

I got the eye set and I have noticed that the 217's bristles have splayed more than my full sized one's have, but overall I think they're good, especially if you don't have many brushes already. The quality was leagues above the cheap drugstore brushes that I was working with.

i love the brush sets because i prefer the shorter handles, the only thing i notice is that my smaller ones tend to shed a bit more.

I was at the MAC counter a few weeks ago, and told the MA to pull out a full sized #190 (foundation brush), and #194 (concealer brush)...and he rec'd the new face brush set from Holiday...but I said I wanted the full-sized ones....The two MA's smiled at me knowingly and said "Yeah, the brush sets just aren't the same quality..". BUT they did add that the quality of this years' Holiday sets are LEAGUES better than of years past!

I laughed, 'cause the female MA was like "The regular brushes are hand-made, and get a lot of love. The brush sets get NO love!" LOL!!!!

Still, I think if you don't have (m)any MAC brushes, then the sets are a *great* way to go. In fact, I'm buying my sister (she has NO brushes at ALL) the face sets and the 'mixed' set this year for Christmas!

Sorry...I meant to quote your post to answer it, but I thanked it instead....It's been a long day

To answer your question, I'd say "YES"....get them...I think the sets are a great way to accumulate the neccessary brushes without having to spend a fortune...Plus, like the MA's I spoke with said, (and anyone who's purchased this years Holiday sets says) these brush sets are actually pretty good this year. I'd go for it. I'd buy them myself, but I've already got most of the brushes in them; and I'm partial to the full-sized brushes (and don't mind spending the money..some people want those brushes but don't want to spend the extra cash. The sets are a good way to get out of that).

i bought two of the holiday brush sets today: the basic and the face. i bought them for portability (travel, going out touch ups) and to get a second 187 without forking out another AU$82 for a single brush.

the 187 in the set is just not anything like my full size 187. the bristles look different.. and the worst part came when i did the pre-use wash. the black dye ran like anything... and it looks like it may have stained the white bristles grey! :eek2: i'm waiting impatiently for it to dry so i can see how much damage there is. my guess so far is i will be asking for a 187 for christmas.

just from owning most of the full size versions of the brushes in the sets, i can confirm that they are not the same... the bristles are a bit different and the brushes don't seem to feel the same as the full size.

will report back on how they wear/go with use.

i'm glad someone posted a thread on this with all the info on the holiday brush sets
i was excited to see the 187 included in the set but when i saw it in the display case it looked really shabby.
but then i still contemplated on getting it cos 187 is the only brush that i'm missing at the moment and i wouldn't mind having extra brushes of the others hehe...

i decided to do a search because the 129SH brush I got from the printout collectiong ages ago...it keeps shedding. i think i've had it for..almost 2 years now everytime iwash it with mac brush cleanser the black dye still comes out and it still sheds!

i'm quite disappointed

well, the bristles of the 187 are drying.. and apart from a slight greyish cast to them they seem ok. I will test it out and see how it holds up.

i like this brush set very much! yes, the quality is not as great as that of the original brushes, but the set is also cheaper. i think these mini brushes are good value for money... and so practical!!!

i got both the face & eye brush sets this year. last year i got the basic brush set. this year's quality is a lot better than last year IMO. i can't tell the difference between my SE 187 & my regular one. (aside from the short handle hehe) i haven't noticed any shedding & the brushes are so soft.
