I can't seem to find a foundation that doesn't turn my face into an oil slick. I would like to find a foundation that provides sheer/light coverage to medium coverage. I don't have any brand preferences. Any recs?? My normal color is MAC NC35.

MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural would work well for you, it is a powder so it soaks up the oilies and provides sheer to medium coverage. If you try that and you don't think that it provides enough coverage you could try Studio Fix Powder, which provides medium to heavier coverage. HTH!

Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is awesome and I use it everyday for light coverage that looks really natural.. but it's not that great when it comes to controlling oil.

I do MSFN all over and then do Blot Powder on any areas that tend to get oily. Blot powders works great at keeping the shinies away/touch-ups but it doesn't really give any coverage, it's quite translucent.

another choice would be Studio Fix powder.. but that can give a heavier coverage depending on how you apply it. I suppose you can get light coverage if you use a big fluffy brush.

MAC Studio Fix powder is good, I also really like Chanel Mat Lumiere which is a similar product only it has a slight luminescence which is really lovely (Studio Fix is very matte). I have very oily skin and even under these I still need to use a mattifying lotion, plus oil blotting sheets.

What I found worked the best was putting on moisturiser, then patting my face with powder to soak up the grease, when that's done its job then apply foundation for normal skin. That has worked very well for me in the past, the only thing you may have to do is get a different shade of foundation as the powder may change the colour of your skin a tiny bit.

The best powder I've found is a translucent one, it's cheap as well, by Rimmel.

Whilst I use MAC on my currently normal/dry skin, I find Revlon Colourstay a great dupe for Studio Fix fluid and excellent at keeping oil at bay. Obviously the one for oily skin is the way to go, it works for me, and something has to be good for me to stray from SFF.

This has always been a huge problem for me, but I'm quite happy with Revlon ColorStay for combination/oily skin. I've been using it with Mac Matte Gel + Prep and Prime transparent Powder and so far I'm quite pleased

Not only it's cheaper, but its lighter shade is a better match to me than SFF NW15.

whatever you do, dont use a mostuizer, it makes your face 10x as greasy, at least it does for me.
Currently I use Studio Fix Fluid, it's working okay for me, but I'm really liking MUFE foundation

A lot of people with oily skin find mineral foundation to be a problem for their skin but others like it. I can't use it. Before I put my foundation on I use Smashbox Anti-Shine. It takes just a tiny bit so it will last forever. I have tried so many products and this helps with any foundation I've used. My t-zone is a freakin oil slick but my cheecks not so much so I put it just there, let it dry good (a few seconds) and then my foundation.

Sephora: Smashbox Anti-Shine: Shine Control/Blotting Papers

I curently use MAC Studio Sculpt but before that Studio Fix Fluid. Other favs are MUFE Mat Velvet+ and MUFE Duo Mat.

Sephora: MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation: Liquid Foundation

Sephora: MAKE UP FOR EVER Duo Mat Powder Foundation: Powder Foundation

Go to Sephora and get samples first to try. That will save you time and money. When I got my sample for the anti-shine the girl gave me a generous sample and I used it for three months since it takes so little. Good luck.

I know you said you wanted sheer/light coverage but I really recommend MUFE mat velvet. It does wonders for my oily skin. It is medium-full coverage though.

I like MUFE Mat Velvet too....and you can thin it out if you want or just apply it on areas that need it. Their color range is pretty good so it should blend flawlessly on. It's the only liquid foundation that does not oxidize like a mutha on me. Just make sure you set it with the super matte powder.

On the contrary, even us oily girls need to use a moisturizer. If your skin gets too dry, it'll produce extra oil to try and over-compensate for the lack of moisture, and you'll wind up all kinds of oily and gross. I've got hella oily skin, so I just make sure I use an oil-free moisturizer. I've been using Philosophy's hope in a jar, it's not completely oil-free...99.9%, I think, but it's been working amazingly well at keeping my skin hydrated without feeling greasy. I also use Revlon Colorstay for combination/oily skin, and it seems to actually help with the amount of times I need to blot every day. I usually set it with MUFE HD powder, and my skin looks great!

I have to use a moisurizer because my skin gets 5x worse if I don't. My t-zone is oily while my cheeks are extra dry but the only way I can save face is to keep it moisturized. I end up more prone to breakouts the minute I put the moisturizer down. Funny, I use Hope in a Jar too but I went three weeks moisturizer free and it took me about the same amount of time to clean up the damage done.

That's no fun...but hey, not every moisturizer works for everyone, even if they have the same or similar skin types. Unfortunately moisturizer is very much trial and error...but it's definitely an essential part of your regimen, even if you're oily. Hope you found a moisturizer that works for you hun.

BTW, your signature is hilarious.

Oh, I know what you mean. I was tired of looking like someone slapped grease on my face. I went to Mac and Sephora and got sample of a few things and here's what works for me:

Hope in a Jar Moisturizer (although I think it is a bit expensive, so I will try a few others before purchasing the full size)

Primer: Smashbox Photofinish light (works like a dream....very light and keeps the skin matte all day)

-or- I have also went ahead and purchased Iman Undercover agent oil control primer (It was over half the price of smashbox and works great)

Then I use MAC MSF foundation and Studiofix powder (or just the powder). Before, I was just using these two products alone, and that was when I would get the oil slick face. The primer really makes the difference.

Oh, I have also sampled MAC Oil Control Lotion and Prep and Prime.....they seemed to have worked well also.

Bottom line, of all sampled, for cost effecient control, use Iman's Undercover agent.....for bestest results....use Smashbox PF Light.

^^I was so excited when Smashbox came out with the Photofinish Light for oily skin. I'm glad it works for you and I've heard others say they like it as well. But it still did not help my oilies. But their Anti-Shine does. I still blot after a few hours but not like after an hour without it. I thought about trying it with the Anti-Shine to help my foundation but then I thought with so many products it would really add up.

Goes to show that even with our shared oily skin we all pretty much have to go through trial and error to find what will work for our particular skin. But I love how the sharing on here gives you a place to start and product suggestions to try. I would be lost without you guys.

Thanks so much for the replies and ideas. I noticed a few people recommended MAC MSF. I have heard that mineral makeup doesn't work well with oily skin. Is that true, or does it work well for some and not for others?

I think it's probably one of those things that works well for some, but not all. For me, because I'm SO oily, if I use it alone, my face absorbs it within an hour...but also, because I have crappy skin (huge pores and lots of acne scars), it seems to emphasize my imperfections. ...but on some ladies, it looks great and lasts all day (I hate you all. LOL).

I love smashbox photofinish light! although it works only with some foundations (i tried mac msf, but my face got oily too quickly). my winner is smashbox photofinish light + Estee Lauder double wear foundation + mac prep+prime transparent finishing powder (i havent tried blot powder yet) and definetely dont skip on ur face cream!
