re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

As far as Must Haves, this is my list:

Les Levres Scintillantes
- My favorite make up item ever.

Joues Contraste - Great color pay off, blendable, buidable, best blush I've ever tried. The plus? It's baked instead of pressed, so if it falls from your hands first you'll break the packaging than the pan of color.

Their eye pencils - Le crayon yeux, Le crayon Khol and Stylo Waterproof. Last forever, great color pay off and easy to work with.

Lipsticks - Aqualumiere, Hydrabase and Rouge Allure. Only lipsticks I've tried that doesn't dry my lips. Great texture and color pay off.

Poudre Douce - Great face highlighters. They also come in correcting shades and provide subtle but buildable light to the face. Excellent for those with oily skin who can't stand cream correctors.

The mascaras, i must say, are the best I've tried, especially the inimitable waterproof, but dries very quickly. It doesn't stand temperature changes so is not good for you to carry on your purse or to travel with. It will change texture and pay off, even if you get it between season changes and keep it the the same drawer. And won't last you more than 2 months with the same texture and pay off no matter what.

Being in Berlin, you'll get the products manufactured for France which are the ones I own.

Ohhh so that's why the US products sometimes look different! I always wondered why the eyeshadows in the quads were a different shape, maybe this explains it.

Speaking of which, they do have a Chanel Studio in London which apparently stocks international shades, I must check that out one of these days.

Chanel nail polishes are the best. And they come in such amazing colours.

I also just tried the rouge allure laque, and I think it's amazing. I'm gonna get one of those.

I have the Rouge Lacque in Coromandel, Phoenix and Santal... and they are truly amazing.

The Blanc lines are incredible too.. I really miss the setting powder and I am trying not to use it to save it up ..lol.

It is a fact that the products in Europe and elsewhere for Chanel are different from the U.S. This include nailpolish, lipsticks, glosses and other products... but then this applies to many other cosmetics companies too.

I bought Rouge Allure Laque in Ming and the tweed shimmery highlighter from the holiday collection. I love the liquid lipstick and I am thinking of picking up Santal and Phoenix soon.

Wow, Hypathya, you are so lucky to own all the quads since 2002!

Yes!! Quads in US are not round shaped like in the rest of the world and from time to time they also launch different quads too. Shades and products that are LE elsewhere are sometimes available as permanent collection in US.

Chanel Make Up Studio is a special kind of counter. It does have shades and exclusive launches. As far as I understand it is stocked, even in US (but only in those exclusive launches) by the same plant. It is a huge place, nicely designed, full of MA's who are ready to tech you how to apply MU and you are supposed to be allowed to play around!!!

Well, yes I am, but I had to sacrifice buying another MU items from another brands, including some awesome MAC products I'd love to have.

I've always thought Chanel makes the most incredible highlighters, especially when it comes to LE items. Les Lames Tissages de Chanel is an incredible highlighter, but the tweed pattern vanishes with use. I have to say that even when the pattern has worn out, the highlighter is even better because of the absence of glitter.

If you're considering purchasing it, ask to see a tester with the pattern and one tester without it so you can fully understand what you're taking home with you!!!

^^ Yeah, I know about the sacrifices of not buying other makeup because Chanel is so expensive, but I love Chanel. My wishlist from the Spring 2010 collection is long.

^ I don't regret anything though, I LOVE Chanel, I'm a major junkie. Ever since my mom gave mi first Levres Scintillantes (No. 11 Eclat, which I still own) as a gift I'm crazy over Chanel. My family even stopped giving me it as a gift because almost everytime they pick something I already own!!!

Since I'm a freak, I photograph every item I own before using it. I've not been able to do so with Bird of Paradise. I've been delaying it, I don't know why.

Sadly, today is cloudy, I'm afraid the colors won't show up. As soon as I'm able too I will photograph it, test it carefully and post here my impressions.

As far as I can remember, when I swatched it at store, the colors are beyond beautiful and as good as always. I was happily surprise that they did this bright, gorgeous, silky colors. As any Chanel quad, if you want heavy color, you must build up. In my opinion, it is the finest selection of colors they've done in a long time.

I hope I was of any help and I'll keep you posted!

I agree! Its looks amazing. Warm colours (bronze, coral) etc suit me best so this colour collection is just what I'm waiting for

i was wondering which was better for oily skin: vitalumiere or matte lumiere? what's the difference between them??

re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

Definitely Matte Lumiere...the Vitalumiere is only suitable for those with very dry or mature skin. I think the Matte will stay in place better for you
greengrin.gif

AFAIK, the vitalumiere has a moisture enriched formula and it gives a dewy appearance while the Matte is designed (obviously lol) to control the appearance of shine. HTH!

re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

^^ You're wright, Vitalumiere is really moisturizing and melts on a oily face real quick!

Mat Lumiere, on the other hand is an oil controlling formula but gives a glow to the skin. It does not give a complete matte finish.

I wanted to buy Bird of Paradise last Saturday but it was sold out at the counter. I hope I am able to purchase it this Wednesday at another counter instead. I bought Rouge Allure Laque in Phoenix instead on Saturday. It is a lovely pinkish red.

re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

I agree about the Quad shadows being hit-and-miss, but I've only purchased one I haven't loved, and that was Nymphea. I adore the Sparkling Satins, and have just purchased the Bird of Paradise which I'm looking forward to playing with!

Chanel have incredible lipsticks and glosses. The colours, textures and packaging are just lovely. My HG everyday lipstick is their Hydrabase in Marilyn (#81), a gorgeous pink-red which is bright enough to satisfy me yet is very wearable. I also wore their Hydrabase lipstick in Shanghai Red and Rouge Laque in Dragon on my wedding day, and it gave me the perfect deep burgundy red.

For a natural-ish gloss, I love the Sesame glossimer. They did discontinue my favourite glossimer colour a few years ago, however. It was called "Electric", and was a hot pink/red with gold irridesence through it - amazing!
I love their Contraste blushes also, especially an LE colour from a few years ago called "Turbulent" which was an intense hot pink. I've not seen anything like it since!

Their LE items are gorgeous, so much so that you don't want to use them. I still have the "Coromandel de Chanel" LE palette for eyes and cheeks (the black/crimson/gold one) sitting practically untouched on my m/u stand. They also had a lovely baked blush/luminiser trio called "Lumieres Magiques" which is gorgeous, customisable so that you could wear it subtly or amp it up.
