Have you ever had problems swapping/buying items from users?

I joined specktra and makeupalley around the same time.. jan/feb of 08, and only then i knew what swapping was, so here are my bad experiences from makeupalley.

1. People dont like to respond sometimes during a middle of a swap! I always have to send first since im new, but atleast tell me when you get it instead of waiting 3 weeks i know it arrived i had d/c just tell me sooner

and these ladies have a good 80+ positive tokens..

2. I made a swap in janurary to canada and i got the package 3 months 1 week later, i almost thought i was swaplifted.

3. In the middle of a swap a girl with a 100% feedback dissapers off of makeupalley, account deleted..

Luckily I've only had 1 major problem here. The seller never sent me my items. I did receive a refund from Paypal, but still...the seller should have contacted me & just refunded me. I notice when things go wrong, communication is the first thing to go out the window, instead of being honest and letting people know what's going on.
I never will swap, and I only buy from people who accept Paypal. That way if something happens I can at least get my money back. It sucks that people are so dishonest, but that's life.

Yeah, the communication thing bothers me, too. If you don't want to do the swap/sale...let me know so I can find what I want elsewhere. Seriously...it takes 2 seconds to reply, "No Thanks!" It also irritates me when people have swaps/sales that they don't maintain or have messages sent to an address they don't check often. That's why I've been so vigilant with my sale...I know what pisses me off, so I don't want to be a hypocrite and do it to someone else.

ugh, I hate when I ask someone a question about their sale...they say make offers, I do and then they never respond, but I see the item is still up for sale seeking offers. It is SO annoying. I have no idea what you want for you stuff, just tell me you're looking for more money- don't ignore me.

Purrtykitty I got my stuff yesterday! Everything was great!

I'm fairly new to MUA as I only have about 10 or 11 feedback so I have to send first for the most part. A couple of weeks ago I sent my end and the DC said she got it on a Monday. Well she didn't ship her end until that Friday and she lied and said she had just got it b/c her post office was weird or something when I pointed out that she had gotten it on Monday. ! It's not an extra long time to wait compared to others and I know that people have lives, but she was obviosly lying and I like quick swaps so I was pissed.

I also was doing a swap where the person responded to every one of my messages 3 days after I would send it and she wanted me to send first. I'm sorry but I can't be in a swap like that. She had like little to no communication.

I've only swapped 3 times in my whole life lol 2 were troublesome but not that bad when compared to other people's experiences and 1 was fantastic and I continue to swap with that person

Hit and misses for me.

Yup and I am scared of swapping again

. I started swapping in January with my back-up pigments and this girl messaged me (she's got 100% f/b) that she'll do a CP for me for the N collection in exchange for 7 half-jars of LE pigments. I sent mine in 3 days after getting her address but until now, I have yet to see the items she's supposed to CP for me nor the check she promised for reimbursement.

I gave up on ever getting anything from that swap already

but it's amazing how to this day, she would still message me every one to 2 weeks and say that she's having a hard time getting my messages and that she'll never swaplift me or anyone else! To add insult to injury, she has been offering the very same pigments she got from me for swaps

Like every one here, I've had several good swaps. But I learned that to have a successful and smooth swap, both parties need to communicate. The 100% feedback does not mean anything to me anymore. There has to be a way to get a hold of the other person aside from email (i.e. phone).

Wow...
It seems to be complicated (lots of problemes) to use Makeupalley. Luckily I chose to use Specktra only... I never had problems, but a girl here never gave me feedback

I got swaplifted a couple times, but I did get my stuff back from one. Unfortunately I bought this gal's MAC paint and that was in January. No paint and no communication as of a month ago and I don't know how to get a refund from her. It sucks because I usually have pretty good swapping experiences on MUA

Haven't swapped here yet, but on MUA, it pisses me off when ( because my token count is still low) that people want me to send my end first, then take weeks to send mine! I always send out my end within 24 hours and I KNOW they receive it within 3 days, because I always do delivery confirmation. I just don't think it's fair or right.

Swapping sounds like it can sometimes be a nightmare. I haven't done any swaps but have done a few sales through specktra. Only one has gone badly wrong and there is a long thread about that where lots of other people were affected by this one person. I agree with Macattak, I will only use paypal, it's the only way to get some kind of protection in any transaction since you are always taking a chance IMO

Wow...I am at a loss for words... I guess I am a bad buyer on here because I bought something that said used a couple of times and it was missing a huge chunk!! Like one third of the product. Talk about disrespectful!

I enjoy buying and selling on here, but when someone gets all angry because they didn't clarify or even have a picture, then it makes me nervous to buy from newbies. So there is my 2cents.

Please COMMUNICATE. It's so frustrating when people log on daily and can't even shoot you a PM about items/offers.

I am new to all of this. I understand swapping must be swapping of make-up items, but do they have to be new? Can they be used?

And.. what is considered a 'good' or 'equal' swap?

Sorry, I'm an amateur. hehe

You can swap new or used items. But if your item is used it is best to provide a picture or an accurate description of the items condition so the swapper/buyer knows what they are getting.

To answer your second question it really depends on the retail value of the item or its rarity. It really depends swap to swap or sale to sale.

Since I became a member on MUA in 2006, I've been swaplifted not once but THREE times!

The last one I sent with DC and the website showed it got delivered; I sent messages asking for delivery confirmation and the reciprocal package to no avail....Found out weeks later, she deleted her account. I still have her name and address and I put a warning on my notepad: loca_4_MAC

That's what I get for being too trusting, I guess...
ssad.gif

When I swap now, I always ask if they can swap first and send me the DC# then I send with DC and give them the number so no worries on either part...

I AGREE! I also have a problem with that...and I personally have a problem with people who sell their items for WAY ridiculous pricing and most times it is used...and No I refuse to buy it...LE, RARE, Princess Di signed or not...Ok thats another topic...Just had to vent...

MUA makes me laugh, I have some stuff listed there, and this member had what I wanted and I had what she wanted, well I contact her once nothing back!!
Couple weeks later I go well let me try again, no reply.
Couple of MONTHS later she gets back to me, wants to trade after she's traded what I wanted, I'm supposed to trade high end for pharmacy crap, errr no! She seemed a bit pissed I turned down her trade too, oh well.
