I have oily skin especially in the summer its so hot here! My wedding is 8.8.8 so I have plenty of time to buy any items nd try looks until then,m Please,Please, Please give me suggestions I thank you!

No SPF for makeup if you're getting photography - that's the first tip. Second: no shimmer. Both can reflect back flash and look pale (wash you out). Don't do anything too trendy (bright lip, heavy contouring, Amy Winehouse liner) because it will look dated in pictures years from now.

I actually did my own make up for my wedding a couple years prior, so I can totally relate. Like many other Specktrettes here, I am a MAC lover so I actually went to the counter to have my make up done. The MA knew it was for my wedding and she made sure I was happy with the look and knew how to apply all the products to get the look. I HIGHLY recommend this process as it was so EASY for the big day as I already knew what the end result should look like and how to apply the products.

I actually used studio fix as it gives the BEST coverage, but applied it with the 187, which gives lighter coverage so for close up pics you don't look cakey in the face. All of the colors I used were natural and matte and only brought out my features - nothing Winehouse or anything like that. I used a vanilla color, a soft grey, a light pink, and a plum purple. I tried to do a bit of a smokey eye with these colors as they brought out my eyes, but naturally, not dramatically. I used vanilla as a wash all over the lid and then the grey in the crease and the plum on the outer corners and the pink on the inner corners. I used a nice natural blush like NARS orgasm as well as a bit of bronzer. I went with a soft pink lip color to bring out my lips and voile! Hope that helps!

just remember 10 years from now no one will remember the flowers or the knick knacks or the ribbons and streamers but the pictures will be around for ever, so make up is really a very important splurge. good luck and congrats

I did my make-up for my wedding too - so YAY! You can totally do it - just be light handed in the foundation part - cos that's the first thing noticeable in the pics. Also it depends if you are going more for black/white photography or more colour photography. Experiment at home with both those settings so you have an idea what stands out more in pics. Hope that helps.

i had my make up done and if you can afford it i would get it done professionally. Personally i would sacrifice other things inorder to get the make up done.
I agree with Holla26.
For me having my make up done professionally made me feel a million dollars! it improved how i looked and also was great not to have to worry about it when you might be busy, excited or nervous.
Whatever happens just have a great day x

I'm doing my own makeup for my upcoming wedding (5/16) too!

My advice (for stuff I've figured out so far)

- Foundation sans SPF. With flash photography, foundation with SPF can make your face look washed out.
- Soft looks. Nothing dramatic, heavy liner, dark lips, etc. -- in black and white photography it can look kinda goth.

Good luck and congratulations!

If you're going to have both color and bw photography - good idea to learn color theory/gradients.

I love the wedding looks on maccosmetics.com I would definately use some of their color selections since they are so classic. I did my own makeup for my wedding before i knew anything about makeup and it turned out okay. If i'd had specktra's advice then I know i would have really rocked it.

I think all the above suggestions are great! I'd practice tons and tons, and have someone take pictures with your looks so you have a small idea what it may photograph like. Plus, wedding planning is stressful, experimenting with makeup can be calming, if you're like me, so you have a built in stress relief right there! Also, I feel like putting your stamp on your bridal look is important, so if you have something signature you usually do I wouldn't leave it out. Even if you feel like it needs to be toned down, those signature things can make your bridal look unique!

Have you looked at Face Atelier foundations? I think quite a lot of make up artists use them for weddings as they photograph well. It's almost impossible to get over here in the UK but i tried a sample and totally fell in love with it and managed to get a friend in Canada to buy some for me and send it over! I used it for my wedding make up (did it myself!) and it was great - i'm going to have to find some way of getting more of it!
HTH!

I agree with the last two tips, but not with the first. A lot of people seem to think this, but SPF is not the ingredient in foundation that washes you out, it is minerals and particularly Titanium Dioxide and Zinc that reflect the light. So SPF foundations are fine as long as they do not contain these things...TD can be okay if it is not way up there on the ingredient list, and you apply powder over top (which you should do anyway, especially if it's going to be hot). The majority of MAC's foundations have SPF yet they are fine for photography. Although Full Coverage is the best for photography, it will look pretty cakey in real life. Studio Fix is one of the worst for pictures in my opinion. I wear it on a daily basis because I love it, but it looks terrible in pictures. Matte would probably work the best since, a) it looks better in photography, and b) it's going to be hot so if you do sweat it won't be AS shiny as you would be in a satin finish foundation. I honestly think you should just go in to a MAC, Make Up For Ever, Smashbox, or Face Atelier and tell them what you're looking for. They all have some great foundations that look great in both pictures and real life (although not ALL are great and it can be hard to tell which). I also think it would be a good idea to get a bunch of samples first, and then go home and try taking a bunch of pictures of yourself in various lighting conditions. That way you don't end up with some expensive foundation that'll still look bad in photos, and you can choose for yourself which one looks (and feels!) the best. Good luck, HTH, and congrats!
