HELP: Im thinking of doing my own makeup for my wedding!

I did my own make-up. It never occurred to me to have it done professionally. This was a long time ago, of course.

I remember at my sister's wedding, I declined the offer to have a MA do my face. I just knew I could do better and I didn't even know the woman.

Now when I look at my sister's wedding pictures, I think I'm the only one who looks pretty and natural. Every one else is quite dramatic and totally dated. Blue shadow, strong brows, heavy liner... yuck.

Anyway, at my own wedding, I stuck to natural, soft tones, nothing very strong or harsh. My photos were taken outdoors, the wind was blowing, I think I looked quite pretty.

I had my make-up done by a pro during my wedding and I'm glad I did because I was able to relax and focus on other things aside from my make-up. I think no matter how much you've rehearsed or practiced in your head the make-up application for your wedding day, nothing will really prepare you during the day itself cos your nerves might get in the way, etc. And true enough during my wedding day I was so nervous the entire day my hands were shaking--imagine if I had to put liquid eyeliner that day lol.

I would like suggestions on looks and colors that I may need to buy. If you have a certain kind of brand that you think is vital for a wedding please let me know! I have oily skin especially in the summer its so hot here! My wedding is 8.8.8 so I have plenty of time to buy any items nd try looks until then,m Please,Please, Please give me suggestions I thank you!

I HAVE A SUGGESTION THAT YOU HOPE HELPS. PINK A COLOUR COMBINATION THAT YOU LOVE. TRY SOME INEXPENSIVE BRANDS AND ONCE THAT COMBO WORKS FOR YOU, THEN INVEST IN SOME MAC PRODUCTS.
PICK A DAY WHEN YOUR HOME, HANGING AROUND AND DO YOUR FACE. TAKE SOME PICTURES OF YOURSELF JUST TO SEE HOW THE FACE WILL TRANSLATE TO FILM. REMEMBER A LOT OF PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN OF YOU AND THEY LAST FOREVER.

OBVIOUSLY, WEAR FACIAL PRIMER TO MAKE SURE YOUR FOUNDATION GOES ON SMOOTH AND EYSHADOW PRIMER TO MAKE SURE YOUR SHADOWS POP AND LAST AS WELL. IF YOU LIKE A MORE NATURAL YET LASTING COVERAGE, I SUGGEST MAC's STUDIO FIX POWDER PLUS FOUNDATION. IT HAS BOTH SILICA AND TALC TO ABSORB THE OILS IN YOUR SKIN. IF YOU OPTS FOR LIQUID, STUDIO FIX COMES IN LIQUID AS WELL AND DOES THE SAME AS FAR AS ABSORBING OIL IN YOUR SKIN. FOR ME I SET MY LIQUID FIX FOUNDATION WITH MY STUDIO FIX POWDER. I LIKE TO APPLY MY STUDIO POWDER WITH A BRUSH TO GIVE MORE OF A NATURAL LOOK. NOT TO MENTION, IT WILL COMBAT THAT SWEATY AUGUST HEAT YOU MIGHT RUN INTO.

AS FOR ANY COLOR SUGGESTIONS, NOTHING BEATS A RED LIP FOR WEDDINGS. ITS CLASSIC, IT LOOKS GREAT ON FILM AND IN PICTURES AND IT MAKES YOUR TEETH LOOK WHITER. JUST MAKE SURE YOU USE A LIP PENCIL OF COURSE. SOMETHING KISSPROOF WOULD BE BETTER. AND A BIT OF BLUSH WILL DO. AS MUCH AS I LOVE A LOT OF COLOR ON MY FACE, FOR ME I MAY OPT TO JUST GO FOR A VIBRANT LIP AS I JUST SUGGESTED AND KEEP MY FACE SIMPLE. I WANT TO LOOK REFRESHED ON MY SPECIAL DAY SO A LIL VA VA VOOM WILL DO AS OPPOSED TO A LOT OF STUFF.

As a make-up artist I wouldn't even do my own make-up for my wedding. I've been involved in a lot of weddings and I know how crazy everything is behind the scenes. Putting another stress on your shoulders is not something you want to do. I also strongly advise from going to the MAC counter to get your make-up done for your wedding because we can't give you our undivided attention.

If you insist on doing your own make-up for your wedding then at least have a consultation with a pro so you know what to do. Wedding make-up isn't like everyday make-up.

I am doing my own makeup for my wedding, as well. It's in a few weeks. I'm no pro and won't even attempt to recommend colors to you, but I would say (also considering the weather there) that you invest in a really good foundation primer. I like the Smashbox primers I recently was turned on to.

I have found this thread to be somewhat helpful to myself, as well, since my wedding is a last minute affair and is quickly approaching! My main concern was selecting a staying foundation that would give me more coverage than I regularly require/want. I hadn't heard a thing about SPF in foundations and how they impact photographs. Although, I'm not getting tons of photos done. But, anyway....GOOD LUCK planning for your big day and congratulations! Let us know what you decide on. If you are set on doing your own makeup, you might want to at least consider a consultation with a MUA just to get some tips, tricks, creative ideas that will work well for you. I haven't the time to do that...but it sounds like you still have lots of time!

I kept it very simple and did my own makeup. I spent months getting my skin into good condition so that I needed only a tiny amount of makeup to enhance it.

I chose a lip stain and waterproof mascara, a tiny amount of shimmery eyeshadow, and that was it. I dusted my face with Guerlain's meteorites in Mythic and that was the only foundation/powder I used.

I look like *me*, not like a version of me, not a 'bridal' version, not a 'trendy' version. Just me. I didn't want to walk down the aisle unrecognizable to my fiance. Something to think about. It needn't be a stressful or expensive thing.

Similarly to others, I did my own make-up for my wedding as I couldn't imagine anyone else doing it for me - I've never had it done by anyone else, even at MAC, so it didn't even occur to me *not* to do it. I wanted to make sure that I looked like me, so I seemed the best person for the job.

(I didn't look all that good though, but that's how I look most days!)

How much will you be spending on products? It might be smarter just to get your makeup done professionally. No muss or fuss on the big day, plus no extra products lying around that you may or may not use.
