Holy crap! $52 new MAC brush??

So, I went to a workshop/class at MAC last week, and the instructor was demonstrating various products and brushes. I don't have a fluffy face brush (a decent one), so thought I'd try the new 138. When I got home, I realized that it was $52??!! Umm, not worth that? Does anyone know why it is that expensive? I love MAC's brushes, but shelling out the $45 for the 187 is about as much as I would even consider.

I would guess because it's really big and fluffy- a lot of hair goes into making it. Also, i think they don't cut it into shape but use different sizes of hair to get that shape.. So a lot of work goes into it.
I'm just guessing.

I just can't spend that much on a brush! I only have 1 (from a holiday set). As much as I love and want the 187, I can't bring myself to do it. I have some good brushes, just not Mac ones.

i bought the 138 brush right on the first day it comes out because the MUA told me it's limited edition. When i got home and check online, it's permanent and i was a lil upset. But anyway, i really like it... $52? worth the money =]. I'm collecting MAC brushes.

I am pretty sure that the reason they are so expensive is because they are hand made and a lot of detail goes into them. It might seem like a lot now but that brush will last you almost forever as opposed to other brands brushes which shed like crazy and fall apart after a small period of time.

138 is such an awesome brush i was so glad to see a tapered big brush it gets powder smoothly all over the face and around the eye area...they are hand made and hey still cheaper than the 136

I might get that. Seriously I need a good fluffy face brush. My big fluffy Sephora professional sheds waaay too much and now the hairs are uneven and look REALLY shaggy. Um...not okay. I'd rather shell out $52 if I know i'm getting a good quality brush.

Same here!
The ONLY MAC brushes I own are the eye brushes from the Holiday set and the 182 that took me a year to finally come through with it. lol I want the 187 badly but I can't fork out that much money for it. I have awesome brushes from different brands - high and low and super cheap that do the job well. I could buy so many shadows and lippies with all that money

I got lucky at TJMAX one day, I bought this 5 piece brush set, I don't think it even had a name, but when I was touching it and playing around with it, I couldn't believe how soft the hairs were! It blew my mind, its like 5x softer than the MAC brushes. And the set was only $20!

O and if you're talking about the tapered dome face brush (I think thats the 138), then try Essence Of Beauty @ CVS. They have one and its super soft! I bought mine after much debating. I am glad I did!

I've already complained about this in another thread but I'm going to do it again hehe. Nearly all of the full sized MAC brushes that I have purchased shed like crazy and I'm not talking about just a few hairs every now and then. I'm not so convinced that they are as high quality as the price tags would have me believe.

I think that there are better or equal quality brushes out there that are less expensive, and it just takes some hunting around. As much as I love and adore MAC I do look outside of it for brushes etc if I feel like I can get better value somewhere else. I'd love to try the Billy B brushes and I have to mention A-Squirrel brushes again because they are freakin amazing!

I love the 138! It's so soft and unique! And I love how when I push it around it bounces right back into the same shape! It's so good. LOVE IT, worth every penny.

I work at a Macy's MAC and I know for a fact that this brush is limited edition at our location. If it in fact says that it is permanent on the website, it may either be permanent at all MAC stores, or it is a permanent website exclusive. I'm pretty sure it is not permanent at MAC stores... so it may be the latter.

If it's shedding that much you should be able to go to a store and have it exchanged altho if much time has past they may not do so. I did that with my 187 and the MA replaced it for me, no problem. The 2nd one shed much less.

187 brushes in the uk are $56, so to me, that isn't that expensive. americans take their cheap prices for advantage, think about how much aus and the uk has to pay

You all should check out the CCOs if you're looking for brushes. I got a full-size for $30 - and they had other ones, too! Obviously selection will vary from location to location, but hey, you might save quite a few bucks (plus find some other great stuff).

How does the 138 compare, in terms of fluffiness... to the 136?

My absolute favourite brush is the 134 Large Powder Brush.($62.50 CAD!) It's everything I wanted the 136 Large Powder and 150 Large Powder to be... but they weren't.

I'm trying to decide between the 134 and 136...whats the difference between them?
