How Much MAC Is Too Much MAC???

Ok, so lately I've been overwhelmed by the amount of makeup I actually have. I always want to buy more, but I usually end up buying the same shades of everything. Including various brands, but mostly MAC I have about 6 different bronzers, 1 MSF, 8 different blushes, 24 lipsticks, 30 lipglosses, 3 TLC's, 50+ eye shadow singles, 1 Holiday lip palette, 1 holiday face palette, 8 holiday eye palettes, 5 paints, 6 shadesticks, 7 glitter liners, 15 pigments, and a whole bunch more stuff I can't be bothered to write down. So my problem is, I've got sooo much makeup that everytime I buy a color I seem to already have a virtually identical one at home. Does anyone else have this problem? I know I don't have nearly as much makeup as a lot of other people do, but I know I have a hell of a lot more than most, so I'm just wondering if I should stop buying makeup. I've got so much of it, I forget what I have, and I rarely end up using a shade more than 2-3 times a month. Does anyone else feel the same way I do?? I just can't help myself from buying stuff from the MAC LE collections, because it's so pretty, and also because it's LE and I know I won't be able to get it again. I really want a bunch of the stuff from the Lingerie collection, but I've got to stop sometime. I mean, I only have one face!

Anyone else feel the same way???

Honey, you can never have too much make-up!
I love my make-up. I play with it alot and some of it is starting to get used up. And that is what it's there for. That gives me satisfaction!

Don't get me wrong, I love all my makeup and playing with the differerent color combos, but I think I've just got so much of it right now that I'd like to use some of it up before I buy more.

Also remember that if you don't get a product immediately it will be around forever on Ebay or this site. Then you have time to read reviews and see swatch comparisons before you buy anything else.

I love my makeup and agree that you can never have enough. I have decided thought that I will only buy the limited additions for now and the things that I really need. I can always get the stuff that is not LE later on. So basicly, I don't go into MAC just to get something that I already have in similar colors. I collect MAC, well just started so I don't have a whole lot of stuff, so NO I could never have enought, even if I don't use it :p

Personally, I think you have too much when you buy makeup just to have it, not to use it. Unless it makes you happy to own tons and tons of makeup, in which case you should do that. Recently, I decided that I should clean out my collection and limit how much new stuff I replace it with. I have to admit, I feel really good about it; I actually like the makeup I still have better than I did before.

i totally know how you feel. i've been into makeup for quite a few years and a couple of years ago i auctioned half of my collection on ebay and now i'm buying things again but i have so much that i can't use anything up. i'm thinking of returning my viva glam palette cuz it hasn't been used yet since i have so many other lipsticks and glosses.

First, you should take the items you rarely wear, try them again and decide if you love them enough to keep them. Swap or sell them! You can also give them to your mom, friends, sister.

Wait 2-3 days after a release date for a new collection, you'll check pics and reviews here or on MUA, and you'll probably do a better choice when you'll go at the MAC store.

Compare the new shades to what you already have! Do you reeeeeeallllly need another shimmery blue/green e/s? People will never see the difference anyway.

Never buy a back up... MAC will probably have a similar shade in another collection.

I am sorry the words "too much MAC" mean nothing to me. The words do not compute! :p

What PrettyKitty said is the best plan of action!

Perhaps it's time to find some more faces and start doing makeup on other people. If you're already talented at makeup and have a lot of material you're in an excellent position to do very well out of it - starting with friends and family. It can be really satisfying working on others and watching their reaction to a nice makeup job.

I know exactly how you feel because I was starting to feel the same way too. With every new collection that came out, I would buy anything LE without taking the time to think if I had a similar color in my collection. But I did pretty good on the Ornamentalism collection..I didn't buy any of the e/s's because I thought about it and I knew I had similar shades to all of them. Hopefully I can keep this mentality up when Lingerie comes out and all the other collections because my traincases are starting to overflow. And I definitely agree with what Pretty Kitty said especially about buying backups. I only own 1 backup and now I regret buying it because I don't think it will be touched until another year or 2 and by then I'll probably be over it!

I am wearing very little to no makeup lately. (and I have to admit it's because of my bf). So I am selling half of my collection too... I am quite happy to see my collection shrink. I am now in college and have to move quite a lot... makeup are quite inconvenient to pack and they break so easily... and most of all, i guess I still like cash more than makeup... hehe
now I buy makeup more for collection. I usually wait some time after a collection is out, to read the reviews and calm myself down. That really saves me a lot of money, and a lot of space too.

I have lately felt like I have too much. I just haven't been motivated to use enough of it. Maybe I'm just in a rut. An untitled paint-jest eyeshadow-BB gel eyeliner-MSF-mascara and nothing else rut. I don't think I've touched my 40-50 colorful shadows in a month. Sigh. Is it any wonder I'm jonesed for Lingerie? Maybe I need some new neutrals to excite me about makeup again! I do like how my collection looks, but I don't buy MAC three days a week like I was doing.

I have more MAC then I will ever use, some MAC I would KILL anyone who touched it, however, it all brings me pleasure in one way or another. I kind of think of it like a stamp collection. People who have stamp collections don't USE all their stamps, only the normal everyday ones, they then have a collection that they own and add to just for their own enjoyment, not because they intend to ever use it.

I have very little MAC I won't allow anyone to touch, and even some of the most "valuable" MAC I own, I use on occasion but I enjoy it all a great deal.

Hopefully that made sense.....

I totally feel the same way as you Roxybc! I have so much stuff it isn't even funny. Most of it is MAC, but I also have a bunch of Nars, Stila, UD, Hard Candy and individual items from a bunch of other brands. Now, when I want new things I am trying to only swap for them, rather than buy them. I went through my collection and realistically looked at a bunch of stuff and realized I hadn't reached for it in months and probably never would again. So all that stuff went up for swap on MUA. I am also trying to really limit my LE MAC buying. For instance I am only allowing myself one glimmershimmer and one lip gelee from Who's That Lady. I am also on a personal use it up challenge of anything I have duplicates of (i.e. same color in full size and in a palette).

Hopefully, I will be able to reduce the size of my collection... and then I can just start again

I do too, I am trying to use what I have- I have a ton of eyeshadows and a lot of lipstick and gloss- now my blush selection is small as is foundation and powder. My fluidline collection is growing and I think I should stop buying too much of that because its shelf life isn't as long. I feel the same way......But I still like to buy more <grin> I'm trying to focus on eyeshadows because the lipstick/glass won't last forever either.
