I am so sad.. my cat Eureka

I think I will have to put my cat Eureka down within the next couple of days. I have had her since I was 14, I brought her home from a shelter shortly after my mom passed away. Now, 17 years later, she has the same cancerous tumour in her mouth that took my mom away from me. Our only option was to have half of her jaw cut away. At 19 years old, it's just not an option. We only found out a few weeks ago and the tumour is so agressive there wasn't much change that the surgery would be successful. She has now lost her hearing, the sight in one eye, and can no longer even keep her tongue in her mouth. It all happened in weeks.

We went through all this last year with my dog. We had him on chemo for a year and the vets were surprised that he did so well. But finally, he came out of remission and the chemo was no longer working.

It just breaks my heart that once again, cancer will away another loved one.

My baby..

I am so sorry to hear about your cat Eureka. Even though it is hard you are doing the right thing for her. She was able to live 19 good years with wonderful owners. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Eureka. I know from first hand experience how hard it is to say good bye to a pet. We are here if you need us.

Ahhh this is so sad...But at least you can take comfort in knowing she will no longer be in pain or misery. Big Hugs...I hope you can find the strength to go through this again.

like coachkitten said.. Your cat has lived a long life and sometimes its better for us to let the ones we love go if it will spare them the pain and suffering.
I had a white persion/siamese cat named muffins who passed away right in front of me. She was over 15 or 16 years old so although her passing was sad i know she lived a great long life.
I definitely know how you feel.

I am sooo sorry. As a parent of 6 fur babies (1 cat and 5 toy poodles) I know how hard it can be to lose one of your family. They truly are like your children. I've had to make the decision that you now face, and I know it is not an easy one. I feel for you hon, and wish that you weren't experiencing this yet again. Try to find comfort in the time that you've shared and continue to show Eureka the unconditional love she has given you over these past 19 years ( I know you are) I'm sure she finds relief in your presence. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Truly, I am very sorry.

I'm so sorry. My former cat had the same thing. It got to the point where he was gagging all of the time, couldn't eat, etc., and putting him down was the most humane thing to do. I know it's hard, but think about the pain she'll be relieved from :-/

i know exactly how u are feeling right now. i had to put my dog of 15 years down and it killed me. its the hardest thing to do because you're torn between wanting to do whatever you can to help them feel better, and then realizing they're probably better off...oh god, what a terrible feeling. but...do whatever is best for her at this point. just take comfort in knowing you gave her the best, most loving life she could have ever had. big big hugs to you, it'll be ok.

I am so sorry for you and your sweet kitty. Gosh, that has to be rough. My cat is getting older and I know that day will come as well. But, you as a human, have to put your emotions aside and think about what is best for your animal. In this case I believe you are doing just that. Much better to lay her to rest than to put her through the pain of an aggressive therapy like cancer treatment. You are a very, very good "parent". Hugs to you! I hope you can feel better soon.....

oh i'm so sorry sweetie about Eureka. just think about the long happy life that she led! 19 years old is very good going for a kitty and at least she's in peace now. It's sad seeing animals in pain so at least it was for the best.

Hope you're doing ok...

I am so, so sorry. *big hugs* What a terrible thing to go through, but think of all the good loving years she has had with you. Try to focus on that, I know it is hard.

I feel your pain, I really do. *more hugs*

I'm praying for you. I had to put my very best kitty friend down a few months ago and it was one of the most painful things I've ever had to do. It still is painful, and I miss her every single day. It's going to be rough at first but try your hardest to think of the positive...you gave her a wonderful loving and happy life, and she gave just as much love back to you.

It's hard to believe now but it will get better in time. Another specktra girlie told me that and it really didn't feel like it would, but I promise, it WILL. You'll be able to think only of the fond memories instead of the sad ones.

My heart goes out to you and Eureka. xoxo <3 <3

Thanks everyone... hubby took my shopping tonight to cheer me up. Doesn't hurt less yet, but the distraction was very welcome.

It breaks my heart to hear about your baby. I am in denial of the fact that day may come soon for mine too. I agree with everyone else, you are doing the right thing, and you know it's what has to be done for her. I have pets because I can't imagine my life without them, but that day will always come where you have to let them go and it's hard. HUGS

Awww, poor Eureka.

I'm so sorry to hear how sick she is, but you clearly know what is best for her to keep her comfortable. I know it will be very hard for you (I remember having to put my first kitty down) but you just have to keep thinking that she'll be in a better place. At some point, you'll be ready to open your heart to a new little furball, but until then you have your other little furry friends, your hubby, and us.
