I live in Sweden where there is no freestanding store. I have no options to buy pan form shadows over the phone either.
Actually we have no b2m either, but im saving my empty pots for when i go abroad.

In Australia we can only get the refills at two stores in the entire country.

But seriously, let people depot if they want. Let them do it for free lipsticks if they want. They are getting an six eyeshadows they want and a free lipstick, why should that bother you?

I don't have a freestanding store where I am so getting refills is not an option

I like to depot 'cus it's easier to have the shadows in palettes and it saves a lot of space for me. The B2M is just a nice bonus

Most of my e/s are refills. I only buy those in pots if the colours I want are out of stocks in pans. I don't depot my e/s for free lipsticks because I don't want to carry 10 e/s pots with me when I'm travelling.

Why not? I spend way too much money at MAC and if I could get a free lipstick/eyeshadow, that's one item I don't need to spend $14 on?

you dont have to b2m only eyeshadows to get the l/s you can hand in mascaras, foundation bottles etc....i only just found out about b2m from specktra...i dont live near a mac store (i shop online 99% of the time) but when i think of all the mascaras iv thrown away that i could of b2m it annoys me. i have stopped throwing them away so when i do get to go to a mac i can take them with me!

i dont think anyone thinks "oh my god i must buy millions of eyeshadows so i can depott them and get a free lippy"...i think people think more along the lines of ''iv used this product up and rather than bin it i can save them up and exchange them for a l/s'' which is good for everyone...less plastic gets binned/wasted and you get a free lippy! so everyones a happy bunny!

I def do not depot just for a free item...I think its great we getting something back when done with so many containers...I usually end up bringing back empty brush cleaners out the ying yang becuze i do a lot of makeup....My bf once saw all my empty bottles of brush cleaner and was cleaning the closet room and thought it was garbage and threw them away. When he saw my eyes get big he looked like a scared puppy...he learned his lesson...Lets be greatful for this B2M its awesome..i dont know anyone else that does that!

Don't kill me but...I don't think nanali means to say you shouldn't B2M, she's pointing out the mathematics of how much cheaper and (and easier imo) it is to buy the pans right off. Granted, there are certainly exceptions such as LE or S/O products, and proximity to PRO stores affect the situation as well, so of course, some depotting is necessary if you like your e/s in palettes. To be fair, I have read several convos from specktra members saying "i need to depot like crazy tonight so I can get some free lippies from [insert name here] collection". I know that's not the only reason they're depotting (b/c it's not) but then I see things like this: Why do people "depot" MAC eye shadows? - Yahoo! Answers And what is the biggest response of why people depot shadows? To b2m. Again I doubt very many people HERE depot simply to b2m, but she's just trying to help people out and say "hey you will actually save money by buying pans" if they can.

^^^ I totally understood what she was saying and I'm sure everyone agrees that paying $11 for a shadow is cheaper than paying $14...That is not rocket science or algebra just basic math...But I think the majority of people buy because they are either buying LE, they do not have palettes at the time, not sure if they want to put them in palettes or because they simply like the pots. It's not necessarily to get B2M...I for one...never used to depot...then I decided to...And I took back over 120 containers....It's actually fun to recycle and pick out a free shadow, lipgloss, lipstick or dazzleglass in the process... And the dazzleglasses are $17.50 so I was able to get 5 of those ($87.50 value) 5 pots from MAC ( $72.50) 5 pots from the CCO ($52.50) .... Mind you that is where the majority of my pots come from is the CCO because they do not sell pans...Not to mention I take back an array of things not just pots...

Speaking of which...Do Mascara containers qualify for B2M ?

Yes! So save your mascaras, esp since they're usually the first thing to go!

And Tish ITA w/ you and everyone else, if you've got em laying around, why not b2m? I sometimes find myself coming up w/ all sorts of creative ideas of how to get an extra empty, lol. When (if) I depot for the first time, it will be like you, I will have like a whole new mac collection once I b2m!

Like I said there are certainly MANY reasons why people don't up and buy the pans, so I totally understand.

I'm lucky. The MAC I go to doesn't require the metal pans to be in the eyeshadow container when I return them...but I know alot of MAC stores require that now..

When I purchase MAC shadows myself, I do tend to purchase in pan form if I can (cost is $14.50) lol.... I usually won't pay the $17.50 for the eyeshadow in the pot if I don't have to unless its a LE item...(You guys are SO LUCKY in the states) the nice thing about when you Back 2 Mac at a freestanding store is that if you want to pick out an eyeshadow with your empties, you can..and then that container will count towards your next 6 empties...I love back2mac!!

Yeah same here. I am lucky enough to buy the pans from my MAC. The only time I depot is when I get few here and there from the CCO. I like the palettes. I think I have only b2M twice and that's because I got them from the CCO.

I do get the what the OP is saying.

I agree. I've seen lots of comments from people talking about depotting so they can B2M. I don't think the OP is trying to offend people who depot, obviously there's lots of reasons to do it as people on this thread have said. But I do see how people who are new to MAC could easily get the wrong idea about depotting. I own quite a few MAC products and I haven't B2M'd yet. I do have a few things I'm saving up and there's always something exciting about the idea of getting something for free, but seeing as lipsticks are one of the cheaper things in the MAC line I don't feel that it influences my purchasing decisions. I'd probably get more chances to B2M if I used their foundation, but it's too dark for my skintone. Don't get me wrong I think B2M is a fantastic scheme, but I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out that there's other ways to save money.

That depends on where you live! Outside North America, I think you can't get anything else than a lipstick, sometimes even only permanent ones, even in PRO stores.
