Im not sure if this is the correct place to write this.

Dont get me wrong im not really "sick" of them, i just hate how I LOVE some of their LE items but when i run out of them i can no longer buy the color, and its not a color where only a few people like it, hundereds if not thousands of girls adore the color, such as coco, all girl, parrot(was finally re-released after like what 3 years?). I probably only own 10 products from macs regular lines and everything else LE, and i spent a good 3,000 on mac in 7 years. Right now i really love sock hop and patatial, im almost out of patatial lipgloss :
shrugs.gif
: maybe i should stick with their regulars so i dont have to deal with finding something HG in LE items.

If things are so popular why does it take 3-5 years to re release them??

I wish they'd re-release things more often, too...or at least put the best-sellers in the perm lineup. For some reason I went AWOL during 2005-2006 and I missed a ton of great stuff. I really wish they'd do another collection like the Originals, except it would be like a "Most Loved" collection.

The other thing that irritates me are the collections that are country (or continent) exclusive (like the Euristocrats or Lightful Collections). I would love to get some of the lipsticks or the pigments (respectively) from those collections. They could make so much more if everything was released world wide.

I know dupes are not as good as the original (sometimes) but it may ease your yearning for the LE products. I get really pissed when I just have to have a certain shade of pink, buy it and realize that I have the same damn shade just under a different name and slightly different hue. That has helped me to curb my spending and my constant itch to purchase LE products. For the most part I have managed to stay away from LE items for fear of what your going through.

I wish that they would cool the LE collections as well or make a few items out of each collection part of the regular collection. I have sooooo many LE items and I don't really even get to enjoy the regular MAC line because they come out with new things too often.

But even if you only buy things from the regular line, it can still be discontinued, so even then it's not going to work out.

I totally agree with the OP. I'm thinking of trying to not get soooo much into the le collection hype and A) use what I' have and B) stick to the perm line and branch out to other brands, b/c I need to stop buying so many colours that are nearly identical :S

ITA!! I looked back at the number of collections mac threw at us last year and wonder how we coped with it all. I would personally love to see FEWER LE collections with BETTER LE items in each one. Originals repromote last year was a complete let down. While I took the opportunity to purchase Parrot I bought nothing else..... it was a complete waste of my time, and for all the hype it wasnt worth my $$ either. I miss the really special LE items of past collections, you know - thes one that were thought about a bit better...lol.....but now it seems so long as its slapped with the LE ticket it doesnt matter too much what they really promote.

The reason that cosmetics companies (and any other company really) is so that one's look isn't completely consistently the same. They want people to switch it up, try new trends, leave trends, and such. Makeup is supposed to be everchanging.

But on another note, I really wish some of the really unique colors would be made permanent. Like Hollywood Nights. But at least we have the comfort of knowing eventually we'll get another limited edition product that is close to our favorite, right?

Omg, I can see it now... "Beloved" with like, metallic hearts on the visual. My choices would be Style It Up Lipstick (Barbie Loves MAC '07), Pas-De-Deaux Lipglass (Danse '06) Sunday Best Eyeshadow (Lingerie '05), and Shimpagne Mineralize Skinfinish (A Muse '06?)

i was just like u all be4...i always would fall in love with all the le items then theyd be gone with a blink of the eye. so now i just focus on the perm line and stick with it. know what i will always use on a day to day basis and wait for the world stopping jaw dropping new flashy AMAZING items to go perm the the brand new mineralize foundation loose spf 15. which i love so so so much.

you all must look at it with with a business point of view....also look at mac's marketing structure overall. how they reel customers in. with the limited edition products!

ie

new customer...

i love this heatherette beauty powder but you no longer carry it what do it do?
ma - well i can mos def turn you on to a bronzer which is totally similar to the item you had in the past.

BOOM addictied!

she/he runs out of bronzer comes back

new launch

more le

more money for mac

bottom line is, the LE items it to make macs new items fly off the shelfs and to create new clientele.mac needs their customers to keep comming back.and by doing a launch every week they will always be knocking at the door.

mac cosmetics does not have enough space to keep all the items perm on little macys counters and even HUGE mac freestanding stores.so it will never happen.they will always have to DC le items even old life long items to merge in the newer perm items.

say tomorrow they DC spice lip pencil?!?!

OMG the world would seriously JUST DIE

life will go on but for me, Allan...i so wouldnt be suprised because im 99.9% sure they will just roll out a whole new line of liners in a week.

what you guys can do is keep contacting M·A·C Cosmetics and letting them know what products you love the most.thats how the mineral craze went nuts and how parrot came back.let your voices be heard.even if your in the store just passing by a macys mac counter...because with mac everyone talks and LOVES to talk its pretty much what we do half the time were there.there is no commercial to demonstrate how to apply fluidline we sit you down show you and tell you.so if you love something let the mac ma know and he/she will then tell his/her mgr the mgr will let the trainers know, the trainers will let the pro artist know then by then most likely the mac product development team will find out and they will do their best to help you get what you want.they aim to please and they always want to keep there customers happy. well i do anyway.

sorry so long

I posted this in another thread about how I deal with the LE craze! Once you have been collecting MAC for a while, you realize how similar the LE colors get to be to one another after awhile!

When a new collection comes out, I go to visit it. I usually visit on Saturdays, when MAC is really busy. I swatch blush, e/s and pigments on white paper or Kleenex. I swatch l/g and l/s down the center of my hand. Next, I go home and compare the swatches to what I already have. I write down my substitutes, and make my own collection. I play around with my substitute collection for a few days. Usually, I am satisfied with my dupes. In most cases, I like my dupes better than the real thing. For instance, Motif is much easier to work with than Nanogold. After a few days, I go back and buy/B2M anything I think I can't live without, or is really unique from the new collection.

So far, this strategy has worked great for me! I don't end up with colors that are only a tiny bit different from each other. I find new uses for what I already own. For example, I loved the N Collection. However, I found 30 acceptable substitutes at home to dupe the 19-piece collection. I can create warm and cool versions of a collection. If a collection is too warm for my skin tone, like Moonbathe, I can make a version of it more suited for my NW15 self. I would urge everyone to give this strategy a try! It saves money and boosts creativity!

I agree, the LE are annoying b/c we're all poor from them! but of course that's MAC's strategy, right? Did anyone notice how similar Hey or whatever it was from the FAFI compact was to All the Glitters? Identical, finish and all!

But at the same time, the permanent collection does get a little boring after looking at it time and time again. That's why it's nice to have a few collections, even if the only thing cool about it is the fancy packaging or something...it makes me happy.

Although when they bring in a product that is totally awesome and a hot seller, they should make it permanent.

I wish they would slow down with collections aswell, and what makes it worse is the special packaging...if they brought out new colours in the same black containers I would pass but for example Heatherette was a must have 90% because of the packaging.

I wish Mac would only come with a new collection every second or third month. Everytime I want to purchase something regular, I think: You can buy that another time, LE first... Mac makes me poor.

Oh tell me about it, I bought a few colors from N and then realized that stuff from my smokey eye palette and the Lingerie collection were virtually identical to them. And then I bought Melon pigment and realized that it's pretty similar to both Rubenesque paint pot and In Living Pink from a previous LE collection. And the light blue paint pot from Fafi? It gives me the same look as Turquatic eyeshadow.

The LE collections don't bother me, because there really aren't that many NEW colors that come out. Almost everything is a close dupe of either a previous LE color that I already own or something in the permanent collection. I haven't bought a lip color in so long because I already own so many, so I just glance at the LE ones to see if there's something very unusual that I like. Even then, I find myself drawn to things that are similar to what I already own! I know some people like all the subtle differences between Dark Hot Rose Pink A and Dark Hot Rose Pink B and want to have every different finish possible, but I just don't have the bank account for that!

Ok as a fellow MAC employee I have to disagree slightly.

What brings ppl back to mac is the QUALITY of the products! In business, thats what takes every customer back to any product. A product works for a customer and caters for their needs... continues to do so... hence loyalty.

In regards to all your comments abt LE - well its something I have heard so much at MAC, from all the managers and trainers - that MAC is a trend based company!! It’s a fashion forward company that has to move at the same fast pace as other fashion brands, be it cosmetics or clothes or handbags. Some ppl choose to buy a new It-bag every season and for the majority of us… its cosmetics that we buy. And why MAC - cos we know their sh** is good!

The new collections reflect the seasons colours and trends and thats why there are new collections every month - for fashion/trend followers.
At the end of the day,we all have a personal responsbility as to how much we follow trends or not.

We also have a responsibility to buy selectively… as makeup/MAC fans …. if we can see that slate eye colours (think satin taupe/remotely grey (therefore N collection) were a big trend on the runways do we have to run out and buy remotely grey?? when we might have similar colours at home - most probably not. Cos we should be responsible with our money and know we can use satin taupe to recreate the look???

From what Ive seen there are some blue/aqua colours coming out with Naughty Nauticals… well how many of us have the likes of contrast, deep truth, parrot, jewel blue??? But how many of us will be buying nauty nauticals just cos its part of a new collection, just cos its limited edition and new packaging and not somehthing everyone can get???

And as for running out of 'HG' LE products and being annoyed that they arent available again or soon enough… well yes there are plenty of dupes available at MAC and other brands…. But as keen cosmetics enthusiasts, arent most of us buying LE cos its ''this seasons colour''??? Therefore we are changing our makeup looks often enough to coincide with the current trend …therefore we arent really running out of product that often, cos hey next month blue is in and slate e/s is out??? But I'll keep remotely grey cos no doubt this trend will return at some point??

What im trying to say is that we need to look closer to home at our own spending habits and evaluate it and spend wisely ...and if we arent able to keep up with trends then hey lets keep makeup fairly classic and venture into the amazing perm line products that seem to be overlooked!
