When we were about 20ish, my husband (then boyfriend) and a couple of friends went down to a state park known for its awesome rock formations and cliffs. (Johnson's Shut-Ins)
There is the river that runs through it all, the river makes the rocks so smooth and cuts out natural waterslides and all sorts of cool things.
Anyway, there is this area with a huge rock formation coming up out of the water. There are two guys sitting on top of it. I thought it looked like an awesome spot to climb up and see the place.
So, I asked the guys how they got up there and as they were telling me, I started climbing. Ok, so you get to the top of this boulder and you have to swing your legs around in order to get to the "ledge". I am barefoot and tell the guys that I am scared I am going to slip because the rock is super smooth and my feet are wet. (the people I was with were on the other side of the boulder, sitting on a flat rock watching me climb)
It's about 12 feet from where I am to the water. I can see all the rocks and boulders under the water from where I'm at. Finally, I get up my courage and swing my legs over.
No sooner had my feet touched the rock when they slipped. I remember saying "Jesus be with me" and heard the guys I was just talking to yelling for someone to start swimming for me as I plunged into the water. We all thought I was dead for sure. There was like zero chance my head wasn't going to get smashed on one of those underwater boulders.
God was with me. He put me right in the middle of four huge boulders. I had a huge purple bruise from my elbow up to my forearm. And I was scared breathless. But I was alive.
Andddd...I haven't climbed on anymore rocks since!
