It's my personal, un-researched theory that girls try what their mother used for make-up before any other kinds.

My mom uses Clinique, so my first make-up was Clinique. And I'm still loving the brand <3
I have alot of friends who's moms used Estee Lauder or Merle Norman for years (its so Southern :p) and now they're stuck into loving the brand.

What did your mom use and was that the first kind you tried?

My mom wore Estee Lauder/Clinique, so I got her old Estee Lauder stuff, and could pick new stuff from her gwp. The first real makeup I got was actually an entire gwp, the traincase with the palettes and stuff. Then I got into MAC, because I wanted an e/s for Halloween, and that all started. Now it's the other way around =P

When I finally decided I wanted a foundation (yea 11th grade) I was promptly taken to MAC. lol Its the only thing my mom uses...even though she hardly wears. Since then I have branched out to better foundations for my face.

I don't know if my mom has ever worn makeup in her life, but my nana gets a lot of free Elizabeth Arden stuff (I'm not sure why) and she gives me the eyeshadow she isn't going to use, so that was probably the first makeup I got.

Do sons count aswell? My mother is a makeup artist for the BBC and does tv shows etc. Her favourites for professional use are Nars, Guerlain, Lancome and MAC...I've learnt alot off her and she introduced me to my favourites, MAC and Nars.

I'm pretty sure my mom has never worn makeup haha. My sister introduced me to Clinique for her wedding when I was 14 so that's what I started with, and then went into anything at Sephora (UD, Hard Candy, stuff like that) and then discovered MAC!

My mom never really uses make-up. She has eyeshadows, some crappy brushes and some earrings, but nothing more. So I didn't really grow up with make-up and it has never really been a big deal for me.

It was was a girl I really disliked that got me into make-up (make-up other than mascara), like foundation and stuff like that. We didn't like each other, so we were totally honest to each other. If she saw me wearing cover stick that was way too dark for me she just told me that and told me I could use foundation to make it look better.

My mom doesn't wear makeup. I think when I was five or smt, she wore some eyebrow pencil, but that was it.

It was actually my best friend who introduced me to mascara and bonne bell lipsmacker, which led to lipglosses, lipsticks, eyeshadows, the whole nine yards. Ironically, she doesn't wear makeup now.

My gradmother only uses Lancome, and my mother only uses Lancome as well, but then again, a llot of Asian women love Lancome. I guess I like Lancome too, since I really like some of the metallic shadows they have and their skin care, but when it comes to other makeup I like Everyday Minerals, MAC, Urban Decay, NARS, etc. which both my mom and grandmother would never use

My mum never wore much make-up and never preferred one brand over another. Only when I got into make-up at around 15 and got to know the various brands myself did she let me recommend some things for her. The only brand dedication she developped is for Lancome mascaras - she never uses any other, but apart from that she doesn't care too much what she uses. I pick some things for her and she's fine with that

my mom played with makeup when she was little, but she said she could never "get the hang of it" so she didn't wear it as an adult. so when i was young, i didn't either...i started out by using the cheapest stuff i could find, so i started off with wet n wild stuff haha.

My mom wore MAC, so when I started wearing makeup for a formal dance in high school, that's where she took me. Essentially, it was all she knew.

My mother used Covergirl. I started off with Almay and Jane, then I moved on to department store stuff more than drugstore.

My mother didn't even want me really wearing makeup.

My mom never wears makeup, but she was given a brown eyeliner pencil as a gift 7-8 years ago and that's the first cosmetic thing I ever used!

My mother wears Avon and that's what she wore when I started wearing makeup but, Avon was not what she purchased for me. Mine came from Wal-Mart but the next go round came from Avon.

My mom used to give me the free samples she got from Clinique when she got gift bags, so that was the first makeup I played around with.

My first makeup I actually purchased myself and wore was drugstore stuff and then I got into MAC. I only ever bought 1 mascara from Clinique before and wasn't impressed...

My mother wears nothing except for lipstick. Her signature is red lips, I guess I take after her in that I am not shy about wearing colour on my lips (although she still wears bolder reds than I to this day). I started off wearing revlon lippies....then I think when I was 16, 17 I bought my 1st MAC lipstick, I believe it was Xtreme. Nowadays, I am the one that buys her decent makeup brushes and I nag to her a lot about taking care of her skin ie. wearing sunblock
