Omg that is so creepy! :( I won't be posting any more pics because this is getting out of hand. Stealing hand swatches is one thing, but to steal face pics is on a whole other level.

I think we should get some section that is private and perhaps keep the rest of specktra open. Would that be possible?

I didn't expect them to steal pics with anyones face on it, that's so wrong! Someone else can basically put your face on the most creepy sites without you knowing and that idea horrifies me. Stealing someones pic with his/her face is not just stealing to me, it's also a violation of privacy. I don't think making the forum private would solve the problem, because it's easy to become a member. I believe temptalia once had a program that prevented stealing. When someone would put the picture on a different site it didn't show the picture. but some kind of warning that it's stolen. I wonder how that works, because that would be perfect for all of us.

I know quite a few people who refuse to post anything on forums that are open for all to see. Not just because pictures can be stolen but it is really easy to find out what they are doing, when they are doing it. Kinda creepy to get an email saying I know your here so why aren't you talking to me type of thing. I would rather see this section private some how but I understand why it isn't.
I totally agree. That is why I am reluctant to post face pictures too. I did it once with RiRi but I don't like seeing my face when I google RiRi Woo in the google picture section

. I have seen fellow spectrettes in there many times and I doubt many of us choose to be out there. I know I don't...
I also tend to give some personal info every now and then which I want to share with fellow specktrettes and not the entire internet.

I think I'll be more careful too with sharing personal information, but so far my pics have just been on here, so I'll continue posting them I think. Maybe the stealers don't like mine

I don't think so. There is probably another reason for that. Or perhaps you just don't know your pics have been stolen yet. I hope they aren't. Really sad, this type of shit...

I agree it would be nice if there was a way to make it private in some way for the safety of photos or I wish it was a way that everyone could watermark... It sucks that you cannot post a photo without someone thinking they have rights to it!! You guys check that page. There is another picture of a lady who is a member on here wearing her scarlet ibis but ill just try to lookup her name than flood the page with is this you pictures

If that would be possible, from a decent amount of posts upward (not 50 or 100) and then a system like the clearance bin or automatically receive a password for that section. I don't know what the possibilities are? I know I would feel a whole lot better if we could do that...

I totally agree on the privacy issues and/or stealing images. It's annoying, frustrating, and irritating, and the main reason why I do not provide early swatch pics anymore.

However, I don't think a private section will help much, presuming that anybody who registers on Specktra will probably have access to this "private section" (either immediately after registration, after a waiting period of X day, or after a certain number of posts).

I think it would be harder if we would say from 1000 post upward? Or 900? Something along those lines? I think it is easy to spot people who post to up their post count and do not contribute otherwise. Hmmm I'm not sure. Really thinking what would be possible. Isn't there a way to create a thread to which you have to invite people in order for them to be able to see it? Something like that perhaps?

By the way, last Friday I couldn't find my Flamingo. Searched every nook and cranny to find it on Saturday, tucked in a pocket of my bag, hiding behind some medication and stuff. And now I can't seem to find my SLN. I never lose my l/s. Well, rarely... What going on??? I hate it when that happens.

I think if it were set up so you had to have a decent amount of posts before access and/or a lengthy amount of time as a member, that would cut down on a lot of it. I don't have a lot of posts because I usually don't have a lot of time to write, but I would think it would dissuade the stealers if the access requirement to a face/personal swatch thread was being a member for several months and, say, 500 posts. I would think it would be easier to figure out who was doing it too if a member was behind it. There have been multiple times I've wanted to share a pic when I wear my latest and greatest MAC goodie, but I have never felt comfortable enough to do so. My face floating around the Internet used for Lord knows what isn't very appealing to me.

I think a certain amount of posts would be crucial because some people become member, never or hardly ever post and automatically gain access after a certain period of time. It's a difficult matter I think...And we feel the same way about uploading pictures.

I just remembered that there are sites where you can never copy or save a pic. Wouldn't that be a possibility here? I am thinking all kinds of things, but I really do not know what would be possible or realistic...

This sounds more realistic.

Well, I think that people who post solely for the post count would be discouraged by that number. At least I hope. It is a shame for peeps who do mean well but do not post so frequently...

Welll but not everyone writes a lot on forums. There are some people who comment on everything or have more time and others are quiet or shy but still read the forum and are members in their own right! If they want to steal the photos they'll do it anyway! Unfortunately being on the Internet means we are more exposed. If you're putting a photo or writing an address it's as if you're placing it on an open wall in the middle of a large city. Once we're aware of that we can be more careful about what we post. In an ideal world they wouldn't steal stuff and we should report what we can, but there isn't much we can do other than not posting info/photos.

Yup, therein lies the rub. Sadly there's no way to differentiate between people like me who are just busy and people who would just wait out a time restraint. That's why I think 500 or more sounds right. You can't just post to get your count up that much without being noticed. And hey, I figure I'll get to that total eventually. I'm just hoping I'll get to 250 before I hit the one year member mark! And somehow I doubt that, LOL! I know one art dealer I buy some things from has it set so no one can right click images (not even to open them in another window), but there are still ways around that, even. I assume a lot depends on what this type of forum is technologically capable of.

I know I would be a lot more easy going with putting a full photo of my face (instead of just awkward cropping of my lips or swatches on my arm) if there were a private section. Thing is, it is difficult to distinguish new members who want to be a part of the community (share swatches, info, tips, etc.) versus the ones who just want something ("when's the release date?!?!? where can i buy ____?") and then gtfo. Information should be readily available, but using someone else's intellectual property and/or FACE because it's on a message board is gross; they believe they're so far removed that it's free reign, and sadly, alot of that has to do with "it's in the internet, it's PUBLIC." So, make something private. Maybe a sub forum for collections with swatches based on either post count, registration date, invitations for newer members who don't fit the requirements but otherwise contribute, or a combination of all three. Encourages the community aspect, allows newbies a chance to join the community, and will cut down on the creeps.
