same here. there was alot of riri fall fakes just 1 week after the collection was out.I thought they didn't want to leak photos to prevent counterfeit products.

I think there will be counterfeit products anyway, no matter if the pics leak a couple of weeks earlier or not.I thought they didn't want to leak photos to prevent counterfeit products.
True, but I thought that was their official reasoning. I heard it from someone here, I just can't remember who.I think there will be counterfeit products anyway, no matter if the pics leak a couple of weeks earlier or not.
Yes but not as soon as the collection is out.I think there will be counterfeit products anyway, no matter if the pics leak a couple of weeks earlier or not.
Considering they release alot of these collection one week earlier online and the turn around time for the counterfeiters is a week. It can still be out in time for the official release. We had pictures of the packaging for week for this collection. So counterfeiters have had awhile to reproduce the packaging. People that are not aware of the actual colour story are more likely to buy these.Yes but not as soon as the collection is out.
Maybe they're just pissed that people have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the final product design and output (re: Maleficent). Oh well, they did it to themselves.I found pictures from other countries so maybe they forgot that releasing stuff at different times travels fast lol
yep, Bloggers trashing collections early equals bad sales, thats why they send products late too.Maybe they're just pissed that people have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the final product design and output (re: Maleficent). Oh well, they did it to themselves.
Yeah, I think some people are getting tired of MAC because they feel like they are seeing the same things over and over and the some of the collections (Maleficent) are not executed well. I am not tired of MAC yet because I haven't been collecting it that long. But I am starting to become bored with my monthly nail polish sub that produces over 120ish "new" colors a year, (I only need so many shades of royal blue, hot pink and pale yellow nail polish). MAC releases a few collections a month if not more; some of which contain a lot of permanent products. I think long time collectors and newer collectors would benefit if MAC came out with fewer high quality, unique collections. Along with brand new products, they could bring back the MAC magic.Maybe they're just pissed that people have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the final product design and output (re: Maleficent). For me, I want information about makeup collections ASAP. That's me. I'm nosy and I'm demanding when it comes to things I want to buy. I've also been spoiled by other brands that release info quick and well in advance. As soon as one Chanel collection comes out, we're getting pics and info about the next. That's exciting. That's the fun. The planning, the thinking. Getting some kind of info about upcoming products makes me giddy like a kid on Christmas day, but ya know it's alright. Mac can want to keep it tight now for whatever little reason they want because it's gotten to the point now where I'm not nearly as pressed as I used to be. I want that compact something serious, but they could push this collection back to Christmas and I'd just bat a lash. If this happened last year I would've thrown myself out of the nearest window. Mac is like that hot guy you lust after in high school and then you get to college and realize he wasn't really all that.
yes there will be counterfeits for many of the hotter collections.. this is a given. Since MAC is a business -- and it's nothing personal against it's consumers or fans, they are trying to prevent the losses caused by the counterfeiters who pay nothing for R&D, nothing for new tech, creative direction, planning, etc. It's all big business. And this is just called loss prevention. They are just trying to get a competitive advantage by first to market with products, vs. having to share internet time with fakes.I think there will be counterfeit products anyway, no matter if the pics leak a couple of weeks earlier or not.
I'm a new collector and I have passed on all the collections. I have only bought the fluid lines from fof since MAC doesn't really make bright coloursin these. This is collection I only looking forward to the lipsticks. I'm considering three of the five colours and that can easily change, depending on finish. The next collection it looking forward to after this is Kelly and Sharon's and right now i'm considering two out of the four lipstick and Kelly's eye quad.Yeah, I think some people are getting tired of MAC because they feel like they are seeing the same things over and over and the some of the collections (Maleficent) are not executed well. It's amazing to think it just takes 7 days now. Now I'm really not surprised at how close they try to play it to the chest.so very true.. but to MAC, makeup IS money.. so it has to be guarded .. knockoffs can be on the market in less than 7 days, and then we would be really really confused. What's real, what's fake..
I think you're right. If I find out that a collection went on sale and I didn't know about it, I feel like I'd better hurry and buy something before it sells out. If it's limited edition you know that you can't buy it later. Their strategy has worked well for them. They don't sell in Sephora or Ulta, they don't advertise much. Their exclusivity makes their products more desirable. Of course, once a person figures this out, it doesn't work as well. [/quote]IMO MAC strives for secrecy to build hype once a product is released. The less you know about a collection, the less time you have to compare the products to what other companies have to offer, and the less time you have to talk yourself out of impulse purchases. Their methods help create an aura of exclusivity and help collections sell out. The want consumers to buy products that they think they can't get at another time or place. For me, I was really excited about some of the recent collections. But after seeing online swatches and the like I realized many of the items really weren't my taste at all.
It doesn't even matter as the bootleggers will copy them anyway. There are tons of fake permanent items already out there. MAC tries to prevent it all, but it counterfeit item still make their way out there.I thought they didn't want to leak photos to prevent counterfeit products. :dunno:
I think last year the color of the year was emerald green(?). I don't know who exactly is buying into that whole campaign. Seems a bit too cheap for Sephora actually. I've played with the products and it's not impressive. Besides, coral is the color of the year for me. Always. That "Color of the Year" baloney is just marketing-speak concocted by Pantone + Sephora. There are services that do color forecasting for every industry and you will definitely get themes and recommended "hot" colors, but those are all developed a few years before the products get to the public. Meanwhile Pantone has a direct relationship with Sephora now, so you know they will be flogging the colors that were part of their service. Some other company that doesn't buy those particular forecasts (and they cost PLENTY MUCHO), might not randomly dream up products in that same shade - although it's always interesting to see the mass mind with these things, as many different designers will come up with related ideas, totally independently of each other other all the time. Experienced this over and over when I was a clothing designer. Trend forecasting is a science, and art and also just a money making ploy, haha.
