That's a ridiculous amount of collections for one month! Who has that kind of budget?! I will have to skip so much in May, I think I'm going to haul only from TempRising. I want the Chanel summer polishes too, so I have to skip all of the other MAC collections. Yep, Baking Beauties too. *sad MAC addict face*UKThey're coming ALL!

Then again, there's a niche they fill . . .higher price creates higher demand. If they were priced the same as drug store cosmetics, there wouldn't be any buzz. Apple Computers sell for several times that of their Windows counterparts. Apple isn't trying to get 100% of the computer market . . .just the 15 to 20% willing to pay top dollar for the best.Unless people have been putting their makeup money aside since February (not typical human nature) few will be able to afford all of these collections at once. Doesn't seem like good business sense to me.
Corrected for youApple isn't trying to get 100% of the computer market . . .just the 15 to 20% willing to pay top dollar for the best. brand
Price is a different consideration than launch schedule. The people on this board (who are already brand loyal) are the subset of MAC customers who buy far more than the typical customer. Many buy from almost every collection. When many collections are launched simultaneously, even MAC's best customers can't keep up. That translates to lost sales in the form of skipped collections. Apart from that, I think it diminishes the buzz associated with individual collections. If this was the ideal, deliberate strategy we'd see it employed globally. IMO, this is poor launch execution. I'm a marketer, but not in this industry. Still, I'd hazard a guess (unemcumbered by actual facts in the form of market research) that makeup spending comes largely from discretionary funds for most. That kind of fun or entertainment spend is often just deferred to other categories if not used (shoes, purses, nail polish). I personally think that spreading the collections out a bit more increases the chance of capturing part of a beauty consumer's monthly spending. When there's nothing between February and May, there's a good chance that the March and April beauty spend went somewhere else and even the MAC addicts won't or can't spend as much on MAC in May as they would have over a three month period. Just my opinion. Then again, there's a niche they fill . . .higher price creates higher demand. If they were priced the same as drug store cosmetics, there wouldn't be any buzz. Everything you said is basically what's going to happen to me next month! The only new MAC collection to come out in the past 2 months was Hayley Williams, and that was 4 items and online only. I'm skipping several of May's collections (BB, N&M) and am going to be spending a hell of a lot less than if everything came out at a slower pace. For the past few months my money has gone on Aveda, Chanel, Bobbi Brown etc instead of MAC, and I'm kind of terrified of trying to get back into the swing of things! If this was the ideal, deliberate strategy we'd see it employed globally. Completely agree! As it happens I have managed to spend very little in the 'lean' months, so theoretically I could spend 3 months worth in one go in May, but doing that just makes the amounts involved seem obscene even though it's the same as if it's spread out.If this was the ideal, deliberate strategy we'd see it employed globally. I assume Mac isn't too worried because they sell out their collections, so even if we die-hard addicts don't buy there'll be someone else who will. Except I'm not sure sure about that, at least here in the UK. There are still some things left from Archie's Girls - including Mall Madness! - over two months since it launched, even without anything else to distract us in the meantime.
PDF, I was going to order the Chromagraphic pencil, Genuine Orange that you suggested from MAC online but it's being released with Art of the Eye in May. I'll wait and get it then so my fav SA gets credit for the sale. I definitely want it even though I have What A Blast, Entertain Me, Lasting Sensation, etc. I'm a sucker for anything orange! Most pro products are now available on the dutch Mac website! Thanks Mac It's a bit strange though that the UK and other european sites don't have pro products yet and we do.
