There is no cut and dried "do this" on darker skinned women and reds! The darkest skins of all- Ethiopians- are outright blue and look terrible in orange red. Or anything brown.
The current model of yellow versus pink tone is absurd; a huge chunk of us, from very white to very black (look up Ethiopians, Black skin, not brown) are blue based. MAC does not make a single base that I, a blue white Black Irish/ Northern European Celt can wear with out a huge pink or yellow stripe along the jaw. This is a very common problem. A lot of so called olive women are blues wearing a yellow base. Blue and yellow make green. Great with red!
This is what testers are for. Never make assumptions about dark skin tone and yellow based meaning brown until you've either put a color on some body OR looked in their closet to see what colors they keep buying, because they look good in them. NYX has a bunch of fantastic lipsticks for women of color with an irridescent blue mixed in. Even truly yellow/ brown/ caramel women look good in these.
Now, I sold make up for years in a 73% African American city, so I've gotten to look at plenty of dark skin tones. (Before the pink/ yellow only disaster dominated all make up) I also learned to never assume. Black people can have some very complex undertones and really need to hit the testers, then the daylight. A lot of you sistahs can wear everything!
Oh- Port Red is a completely neutral red, not a blue red. Everybody can wear it, if MAC will ever bring it out again...
