MAC for Marilyn

I'm so torn on this collection... I LOVE Marilyn Monroe! And special packaging always seem to suck me in! BUT, as Mac-Guy pointed out, reviewing the color story, AND obviously we know Marilyn's coloring.... this is a great collection for the pale beauties. Probably not so much for me at NC30/35... I'll probably find a few things to grab just to take part in the collection...

I do wonder if this collection will only suit lighter skin tones. I'm probably about a NC20 but unlike Marilyn I have dark hair. I'm looking forward to the pics of this collection and hoping I can make a nice haul. I hope the colors will suit everyone tho so we all can join in the fun.

I think there will be more to this collection than items just for fair skin. Scarlet Ibis is a standout shade and multiple skin tones can rock it. A true blue is generally appealing across skintones as well.

I think there's a lot of potential for basic every-day shades as well as the ultra pin-up look.

I agree with you and I really really hope I didn't come across wrong. It would be very stupid of MAC to not make it a universal collection.

Ohh noo I understand :) I agree, too. I think it would be kind of weird to have a collection without variety! Though I understand that a lot of the items were inspired by the look of Marilyn Monroe, I don't think that their intention is to just market to fair-skinned blondes, either! It looks to be a gorgeous fall collection with the promise of staples for everyone to wear! And the special packaging to boot.

Oh good. I'm tired and it's late so wanted to make sure I didn't say something I didn't intend to. I do think this collection will have good fall staples. I wonder how dark the reds will be and if they'll suit me. I hope so as I want some more fall/winter MAC lippies.

I really like all the names of these products...I just really don't like red lips on me and I have stuff that is similar to most of the other products.

I didn't mean to suggest that this is a collection for only pale ladies, just that it will definitely suit paler skintones better overall. As one might expect given that Marilyn was fair skinned, and this is a collection inspired by her style. I already own SI lippie, and I'm not really looking for another red lipstick. And most of the face products seem like they will suit fairer skin than mine. I will surely find a few things to get (I'm definitely eyeing some of those VP eyeshadows), but it won't be a "have to have it all" collection for me. I am really excited to see the packaging!

I'm ready for a few collections where I grab a little or nothing myself! So I'm glad this collection is on the smaller side and even by the color story, I don't feel compelled to buy every single thing. It's been a big whirlwind MAC tornado since Iris! On the plus side, there were a lot of great products!

Light, medium or dark skin, its the spirit and legacy of Marilyn that's important. I'm expecting MAC to encompass all skin tones into the collection somehow. I'm assuming the MAs will be trained to suggest comparable products for those of all shades, wanting a 50's and 60's pinup/hollywood glam look. And if they don't do it, there's always the talent on you tube who most likely will. And then there are the die hard Marilyn Monroe collectors, i'm sure it will be a collection for them, makeup lovers or not.
