MAC Holiday 2012 Glamour Daze / Fabulousness / Guilty Passions Collection Discussion

I agree that people should need to show that they continue to work in the industry to gain Pro privileges; I was once a volunteer fire fighter but I don't ask for a discount when I go to the local pub that gives cops and firefighters one. I don't do the job and I don't deserve the discount. It shouldn't be a lifetime thing.

I understand the business reasons why MAC releases to Pros early. Unfortunately, the policy is being widely abused, even if only by a minority of Pro members. As such, I think the policy should be reviewed, which is exactlly what I told MAC in the letter I fired off after the Marilyn collection was launched.

If MAC is going to continue to launch early to Pros, I think they should do one of two things:
1) Limit quantities to 2 and disallow subsequent orders (their systems should certainly be able to do that)
2) Limit early launch quantities and leave most of the stock for the regular online release.

I'm going to disagree with you that people don't stop buying MAC. That might be true on this board, but I've read scads of comments in other places (T, for one) where people state that they don't buy collections anymore. I'm at that point myself. Unless I can pre-order something, I'm just not bothering. There are enough other companies that don't indulge in this nonsense out there and I don't consider stalking fun. New people come along and perhaps MAC is counting on getting as many new clients as they lose, but that's a shortsighted long-term business strategy.

This isn't personal, but if you're not working in the industry then I disagree that you're entitled to a discount. You're a customer, no different than me. If you resume working in the industry, I think they should reinstate your status. Otherwise, what you once studied isn't particular relevant, IMO.

My university tuition and professional licenses were costly as well; almost all post-secondary education is. I have to believe that most who study cosmetology or related fields do it because of interest, not because it might eventually lead to Pro discounts. (Some rabid Specktrettes might be the exception).

All of the above is my personal opinion; I realize that others may not agree but I stand by it.
While I still love Mac and the limited edition collections I have noticed the sentiment you mentioned on Makeupalley boards in particular. I have been following that board since around 2007 and at that time there was a huge interest in the collections (Fafi, Barbie, the cherry one I can't remember the name of) but now if you ask if anyone is buying from this collection for example you will get either no or no response. The change is almost a complete 180. Of course I stay here on Spectra more

MAC has pulled late releases on Pros in the past. I believe Mac Me Over and/or Cindy Sherman was late too. Let's hope for the best.

I was under the impression that the collection would be available at Pro stores today. Did anybody purchase at a Pro store today?
My card was charged for my preordered individual items today.

I've been thinking about getting MAC's brush roll. I think a brush roll is how I would prefer to store my brushes permanently and not just for traveling. I don't think I want to keep my brushes out in the open. It looks really pretty when I see pics/videos of people's makeup areas, but I don't want my brushes exposed. I currently just keep them in the brush pocket of my little makeup bag from Target. But they're now outgrowing that space. I was hoping to find a pretty but durable brush roll to store them. The Marcel Wanders brush clutch looks pretty, but I want to place my brushes into individual slots so I can quickly see them.
Look into the ELF one. I think it was $19.99. Not pretty but does the job for me.

I never bought any brush sets from previous years' holiday collections but this year's sets look beautiful! I want them all!

This has probably been discussed to death, but how different are the brushes in the holiday sets from the regular ones? I have several regular brushes and I love them to bits, but I've always been reluctant to buy holiday sets because I heard they weren't as good quality.

LOL. That's what they had before. Funny thing is that they just redesigned the Pro site to include a Pro products only section. I believe it was a few months ago (there should be a post somewhere). That back-and-forth business is quite annoying. Does the regular site have a Pro products section as well? Or do you have to search for Pro items among the regular products?
There's a pro products section - it was helpful because it isolated those items so I could easily scan them today.

I bought one of the G&I sets for my little daughter to put in her makeup kit (performance only) because I didn't want to share brushes with her. The 129 is a little scratchier than the normal version, but it worked just fine. The 266 and 275 got the most use; they may not be quite as good, but I don't have a problem with them either. I kept the 190 from that kit and I occasionally use it; I feel no need to 'upgrade' to the standard one.

I've ordered two of the sets for my older daughter for this Christmas (the mineralized and advanced); I think they'll be just fine for her.

I'm confused. Why do they need to separate it? Everyone was always able to buy pro products right? The only difference would be in price as to whether you have a Pro discount or not. Prior to putting the pro products on the regular site, if you wanted a Pro product you'd have to go to a Pro store or call to order directly. I'm guessing if they decide to have one site they'll include a spot for those with a Pro discount to include their pro membership number. I just like the fact that I don't have to call anymore. I don't have a Pro store near me so if I ever needed anything Pro I'd just call. But now it's at my fingertips which I find a whole lot easier. And sadly, a whole lot more tempting too. LOL.
no i meant like if they have an early release to a collection would we see it also since they combined the sites? lol but now thinking about it they might have it so if you are pro and signed in that only they would be able to see the collections early

just did a live chat and they said they don't have a confirmed date for the launch....um what
I think they just like to keep people guessing. I have asked about launch dates in the past on live chat, and they always tell me to sign up for the email updates to stay informed. Duh, of course I am. But it doesn't help when the email comes out after the collection is sold out!

HAHAAHA she asked me to sign up for the email too. I told her doesn't she realize by the time the collection comes out everything is pretty much gone...lol ya, she had no answer for that one. UGH
