MAC So Reel / Reel Sexy discussion

So I kind of need some advice on outfit/make-up.

Usually I'm used to wearing all black clothing so make-up isn't an issue... but tonight I'm going out. I like the colour blocking trend, so I was thinking of purple jeans and an orange shirt - but I can't figure out how I could possibly pull of coloured make-up with it, I figure it'd all have to be neutral, right? So I'm now thinking of just purple jeans and a black shirt... would Heroine be too much to go with the jeans? I don't want to be matchy-matchy but at the same time I want it all to co-ordinate in. Help? I'm terrible with clothes and make-up together. :/
i think you should wear the orange and purple and use heroine on the lips but with a neautral eye. maybe something slightly golden though like half baked from urban decay :)

did they say why? Whend do you wear black? LOL OR is it when you are wearing bright bold colors?
I have a book by T&S where they have these colour combination suggestions for clothes. This is what they say about black:

I never wear black unless I'm required by etiquette!

Not even pure black makeup, except mascara.

Sorry for not responding earlier, I have been away for 2 days. If you are afraid of too much colour with a bright blouse, you can go with a lighter texture, like lustre (or a gloss).
Anyway, if you are wearing bright colours, you need to put someting colourful on your face too, but one has to find a personal balance of course, and not to go OTT.

Thanks for posting! I totally abuse black... LOL! I always see it as a perfect background for my more dramatic jewelry and make up. It does totally deserve respect, though! :)

that's very interesting, i remember my cousin saying to never use black in oil painting, but to use a very dark indigo instead...

i have to admit, maybe i'm an abuser....i wear A LOT of black clothing (of course always with respect). :)
as far as makeup goes, outside of black mascara, i tend to prefer very dark browns, or 'off'-blacks...my carbon gets very little love, in favour of embark and saddle, and it's my dark brown pencils that get worn down to their stubs!

I think there are no rules. Just wear what you feel like wearing and combine with make up and accessories as you please. I wear a lot of black and paired with a bright lipstick is something I like a lot. Nothing wrong with that...

Ultimately this is true. But I like to look at fashion books like theirs when I get stuck in a rut. Or can't figure out certain outfits or my style. I'm such a jeans/tshirt girl. don't like a lot of "stuff" on me. Not that I'm a tomboy or don't know fashion. :)

Me neither. I wear simple clothing and dress up as good as I can every now and then. I really don't care if my bag matches my shoes or belt (if I would wear one). I only care about a nice, fun bag that is different than all the other bags out there. Maybe weird / distasteful to some, but I don't care.I wear simple T-shirts that show my body, even though I'm fat. If people do not like it, too bad. Important thing is that I like it...

no, definitely not....i am in complete agreement with you that there are no hard and fast rules, especially in fashion. for example 'don't wear white after labour day' (which i assume only exists as a rule in north america or wherever else labour day is celebrated?) i also really like wearing all black, and playing it up with bold accessories and/or a bold lipstick.

i think to a certain extent the quote from the book is a bit sweeping...esp since black looks extremely good on certain people's complexion, and on others it looks extremely harsh.

at the same time, i can see where they're coming from, since when people don't know what shoes/bag to match with a particular outfit, or whatever, the easy fall back has become to choose black, because it supposedly 'goes with everything', when sometimes choosing another colour might really make things pop.

Yes, I think so. It is called What you wear can change your life.

I'm the office freak since I wear colours and makeup. I'm not very age (or other things) approriate either

I have this book. It's actually Trinny and Susannah's third book. (First one was What Not To Wear, same as the show; second was What Not To Wear for Every Occasion -- both of which I own as well.) Anyway, topic? I got nothing. :) *sneaks out*

in my office i'm the only girl who wears any noticeable makeup. i think the others just wear mascara or a super subtle liner. oh well...i guess that's my quirk! i keep wanting to pick up more stuff from reel sexy and ED, but there are also so many things coming up....

I know that I definitely wore more makeup- or at least more colourful makeup than most of the others in the last couple of offices where I worked- both cosmetics/ skin care companies, by the way. I just started at a natural/ organics product company, so I'm trying to stay fairly understated at the moment. Ironically, I really don't see much of a difference there in terms of how many women wear makeup or how much they wear. In general, makeup just doesn't seem to be that popular...
