"MAC stole it's ideas from MUFE" - Unprofesh MUA tells me off.

I always think back on this incident that happened at the MUFE counter a few years ago and I thought I'd share! Tell me what you think.

When I was around 14 or so and wasn't into high-end makeup like I am now with MAC, I went with my mom to our MUFE counter in Sears, and she had her make-up done. I remember saying to the women "This is a little bit like MAC, eh?" (just going on what I had seen passing the MAC counter, at the time I'd never bought a MAC product)

The MA at the counter suddenly looked all offended and goes
"Actually, we aren't anything like MAC, the founder of MAC used to be partners with the founder of MUFE and one day the now founder of MAC decided to steal all of his partners ideas and create MAC on his own, so MAC is a horrible company you should never buy from them, it took the founder of MUFE many years to get his project back together."

Of course not word for word, but close to it.
I was like "uhh.......... ok"
Totally unprofesh!
Not to mention, not even true, but It had the opposite effect on me that the MA wanted it to have, instead of being turned off by the idea of MAC I was suddenly turned off of MUFE and this MA.

Just thought I'd share, let me know what you think

wow that really is very unprofessional of her.. what is with MUFE MAs anyway? the MA at our MUFE counter is always dissing MAC too.. whenever I pass by her counter carrying a MAC bag she goes on and on about how "MUFE has better pigments than MAC" and "MUFE powders are not as cakey as MAC's" etc.. ugh! and just like you said, it has the opposite effect on me and now I really dont like passing by the MUFE counter although I love their products.. I remember one time I wanted to check out their new Diamond Eyeshadows and she said "I saw you going into MAC" and she lectured me again how they had better stuff I was like o_O okay? wtf

Wow. That's totally unprofessional!! I work for MAC, and we generally don't talk about other brands let alone diss them!!

I had the opposite... I went in to the Benefit store and the MA was telling me how MAC make better eyeshadows!!! I didn't prompt the conversation at all, I was just carrying a MAC bag!

Needless to say her manager was not in earshot.

Wow! I don't think I'll ever visit an MUFE counter then, not that we have any, but I'm always put off when people do that. Not like offended, but to the point that I get really scared or that I might cry if people do that. D:

That's so harsh. I don't care the story is truth or not but i don't think talking behind people back is something nice to do.

I have MUFE MAs glare at me when I walk by their counter carrying MAC bags... I just give them the death glare right back and then shoot them with a smile =D

If anything, that'd push me away from MUFE and straight to MAC. I've never ONCE had an MA say anything negative about another brand. In fact, they'll be the first to admit that the MAC mascaras are lacking with the exception of Plushblack, and when I mention Diorshow they don't get all negative and push Plushblack on me. [Even though I have both.]

When another brand comes into play, discounting the competition doesn't look good. I love my bareMinerals foundation, and my MAC MAs know that. Rather than badmouth it, they take into consideration my makeup habits [I swear they have my palette contents memorized as well!] and find me something similar. Either the new loose mineral foundation or mineralized satinfinish were the suggestions, and I love both. Competitors' products, if the MAs are familiar with them, can work in their favour.

The MUFE MA could've done something similar there to garner your attention to her products. 'Oh, you like MAC? Well, we have a lot of highly-pigmented shadows as well, have you considered taking a look at those? I know a lot of die-hard MAC fans are fond of MUFE 92 for a vibrant purple.'

Not 'MAC sucks!'

...this just reminds me of my work. I work for Canada's largest/oldest phone company, and any time I'm talking to a customer I can't say '(insert name of competitor) doesn't know what they're doing.' It's more like 'Okay, why don't you tell me what you have with (competitor) and let me see if I can find you something similar! Oh, you are on (competitor's) 7mbps highspeed internet service and you are paying $58? I can get you that for $36.95'

Not 'Oh, you're with (competitor)? I'm sorry to hear that. Well, trust me, their service isn't all that great compared to ours. They ripped off our promotional ideas, so really, why not choose the company who started everything 125 years ago?'

Sigh. It saddens me to hear that the makeup business is as cutthroat as telecommunications.

That was very childish of her, but I don't think those kind of experiences should put anyone off of MUFE.

It really is a great brand, and there's no reason to compare it to MAC or to choose one over the other. You can love and wear both.

Is that true though? Now I'm curious. Is there even anything that kinda happened that could vaguely be interpreted as that? I mean, DID the founders of MAC and MUFE ever work together? My curiosity, it is piqued!

I've never tried MUFE before but I'd so much rather pay $10.50 for e/s (pro pans) than in the twenties. I guess thats the only thing stopping me.

First of all I thought MUFE was created by a woman - at least that's what their website states and it's a line that was started in France, it's not a Canadian brand. Regardless I'm surprised that the MUFE MA said something like that while working.

The only time I'll compare MAC to another brand at work is when comparing price but I still wont name another brand by name. It's just unprofessional. MUFE still has some great products - I'd just say to stay away from that location and maybe even complain to a manager about it. Making you feel uncomfrotable when you're shopping for make-up is not cool.

You agree that it was right for her to be unprofessional? or?
The point of my post was to talk about unprofessional make-up artists and how their attitudes and in this case lies, have put me off of their company, I wasn't trying to compare products from either company

That would totally drive me straight to MAC. That MUFE MA sounds like a jealous ex or something. She was probably turned down for a job at MAC and will be forever pissed-off about it.

yah, i had one of those moments at the mufe counter too. the MA told me that mac is "made for men". i was like "g-uh? you mean the company was founded by men or a lot of ppl use it for drag makeup?" and the MA said "no, no, no. lots of people use mufe for drag too, but mac is MADE FOR MEN!" and then the MA from chanel walked over and repeated that comment.
i scratched my head for a bout 2 sec and decided to forget about it. tbh, i still don't understand what they meant by that

Well, that MA is dumb, because MUFE was founded by Dany Sanz (female) and in no way was she affiliated with wither Frank or the toher founder of MAC - they were also founded for two different reasons and at two seperat times... but don't let some dumb MA get you off a line of color - there will always be those dumb people everywhere you go... I say experience it for yourself, and then make a decision.

EDIT - MUFE was also founded way before MAC...
