EDIT - MUFE was also founded way before MAC...

Are you sure? As far as I know, Dany Sanz and Jacques Waneph founded MUFE in 1984, and Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo founded MAC in 1984 / 1985, so almost the same year.

MAKE UP FOR EVER was founded in 1984 by Dany Sanz and Jacques Waneph to create products for professional makeup artists for every style of makeup, from basic to totally outlandish.

Dany Sanz is now Artistic Director of the brand, creating the different looks and products that have earned MAKE UP FOR EVER a huge following the world over.

As an art school student, Dany's love of theater and cinema drew her to stage makeup and special effects. She subsequently ran a professional makeup school for seven years.

In 1984, Dany Sanz decided to open a store catering to makeup professionals on Rue de la Boétie in Paris' chic 8th arrondissment. It didn't take long for the brand to become a veritable cult among makeup artists.

LVMH, the world's leading luxury group, acquired MAKE UP FOR EVER in 1999. The company now has a hundred employees in France and enjoys a high profile at Sephora stores in Europe and the United States, as well as major department stores in Asia and the Middle East, where the brand has been tremendously successful.

The range now counts over 1,000 products, including foundations, eye shadows, lipsticks, gloss, body makeup, eyeliner pencils, loose powders, cleansers, brushes, false eyelashes, glitter and much more.

In 2002, Dany Sanz opened the MAKE UP FOR EVER Academy in Paris, a professional makeup training center where she shares her "passion for makeup".

In 1984, MAC was established in Toronto, Canada by founders Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. Toskan was a make-up artist and photographer, while Angelo was the owner of a chain of hair salons. Both recognized the missing element of a versatile and reliable cosmetic to be used in fashion photography. The intense lighting conditions often employed created conditions under which conventional makeup either photographed badly or didn't hold up, so the two set out to create a line that would hold up to these types of challenges. They envisioned a makeup company that would be for All ages, all races, all sexes. This later became the company motto.[2]

Wow - well strike me dumb, I thought they were further apart... oh well. Well they are different and for different purposes... They may have some similar things, but still... don't let a dumb MA talk you out of a brand, that's just one person.. not representative of the whole brand.

Oh no I agree, that happened a few years ago, I didn't it turn me off of the product, I'm turned off by the price mostly

21 dollars for an eyeshadow compared to 12.50 for a pro pan at MAC (I live in Canada haha!)

It's totally a shame though, because the colors are gorgeous, I'd buy them if it wasn't for the price point, but for that point I might as well buy a fullsize pigment at MAC, and we all know how long those last haha (FOREVER!!

Thats disturbing to hear. I mean I really love both brands and thing that they are equal in quality, i just find MUFE's shadows a tad bit more pigmented but they are still both amazing brands. I dont think that the MA's should speak like that of other brands. That does not give them or their company a good look at all.

I think that is so unprofessional and it push me away instead of draw me in; I work in a similar industry and I would never talk bad about the competition even if it was my personal opinion; instead just talk about how great we are.
