MAC Store VS. MAC Counter?

Which place is best if I'm a first timmer going in for makeup advice? I already use some of the MAC products and I'd like to get some opinions for a new look. But the people at the MAC Stores always look so intimidating! Would it be better to visit a MAC Counter instead?
