I'm getting my undergraduate in spring 09 and am going on to get my psyd or phd.
Although, at this point I'm thinking of taking time off to go to work. Student loans (and MAC *ahem*) are kicking my butt!

Thanks for starting the thread &to everyone who's posted

I'm currently a sophomore majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry, and I plan on attending medical school after graduation. I've always known I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up, and for the past couple of years I've really been interested in forensic pathology. I used to want to be a plastic surgeon back in middle school/early high school, but at the moment, forensice pathology is calling my name. Of course, I'm sure I'll change my mind many more times!

I'm going to be keeping an eye on this thread and offer input when I can. I've already learned a lot already, so thank you everyone!

I went into medical school thinking I was going to do forensic path as well. Planning on taking a forensic path elective next semester and am real excited about it. However, anatomy lab completely nixed that idea. I'm applying gen surg instead. Have decided that I'd rather operate on living things.

And I agree with captodometer. I'd rather sleep an extra 15 minutes than spend time with makeup, but there are days when I just feel like being pretty for 5 minutes (especially on those days I don't have to wake up at 5).

Usually pretty simple stuff - quick liner and mascara. There are those who go all out though.

I've had enough of clinical... as soon as I get my transcripts in order, I'm going back to school for Healthcare Administration. The current system is way overdue for an overhaul.

Edit: regarding makeup, since I'm not on the floor anymore, I CAN wear makeup, but in the summer, I really and truly cannot be bothered with much other than lip products, because between my body heat and the actual climate, everything would slide right off my face!

I have been a nurse for two decades, I have also been a combat medic, and I have additional degrees in science (bio/psych). I always wear makeup to work-unless I am working in the OR, then that would be wrong on a moral level although I know some residents who do wear makeup in surgery.
Patients do appreciate some makeup-it looks like you care about yourself and did not just roll out of bed. Too much looks narcissistic. We have one resident who always wears black shadow, vamp lipstick, and a ton of eyeliner and I think its a bit off putting in a professional setting.
I keep my nails super short and buffed. I wash my hands about every 5 minutes-when I meet the patient, before and after gloving, before leaving the patient. Polish washes off and chips too fast. Washing frequently keeps iatrogenic infection evels down and makes patients more comfortable.
It's all about the patient to me.

I don't remember u posting this...but yeah

I'm an EMT finishing up a degree in Bio, I'll be taking MCAT in the summer. I'm interested in emergency medicine (obviously) more from a primary care for underinsured and disadvantaged populations angle, although I am a bit of a trauma bunny like anyone who has spent time in EMS. It's great to know there are a few of us med geeks lurking about!
