i usually go to the local mac counter with no makeup on and feel like a putz. it's like "does she really use our makeup?" (which of course i do!) but it's usually because it's a spur-of-the-moment thing.
and whenever i go and try products on, i always have some makeup on so the MAs always help me take the product off and put the new one on.
