No More Backups

I have decided that I need to get real and stop buying backups of things, no matter how much I love them. I have so much stuff in my stash, that using it all up in my lifetime is probably not going to happen.

I am definitely tightening up my budget these days, but even if I weren't, to me this just makes sense. There will always be new things coming out, and buying backups does not make sense for me any more. I am also trying to move away from having so much "stuff" - and let's face it, I have plenty.

Anyone else? What are your thoughts on this?

I don't buy very many backups but I there are some I regret. 3 backups of Bare Neccesity dazzleglass, not a regret. 1 extra Sun Centered powder, I regret. When I bought it, it was on impulse from the CCO because I was using it everyday but now I've moved on to something else and I know I won't use up the first one. Lesson learned.

I agree. Almost bought two Smoke & Diamonds, but then thought of all the taupe-y shadows that already exist, or will in the future...and didn't. And I've barely dented S&D as it is!
I tend to seesaw between lustful acquisitiveness, and then disgust at myself for being so greedy and wanton.
Although it's only makeup, it's amazing how it taps into all sorts of emotions...

I don't do backups, lesson learnt from here seeing people talk about backups of backups and how much they spent only to have the item come out again in a year or 2, and then learning so many items had dupesalso, to me it was better to spend the money spreading out my stash

I agree. I have bought so many backups & I realize it is so unnecessary. I have made a vow...no more backups!!!

i never saw the point in this...i mean unless its a LE item that ur using EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE YEAR, then okay, but its totally un called for being that its probably not an item that will be used constantly

I 100% agree...I may keep 1 l/s or 1/g if it is LE and I love love it but not more than 1 single b/u and not more than 3 lip shades....but as far as anything else NEVER again...especially when I am yet to finish one product prior to getting to the b/u. I even have back ups of perm stuff!! WTF and why???
I will still keep a b/u of my most used foundation....But I have always done that because I procrastinate and if I get low...By the time I order I am out.


But never again on blush, e/s MSF etc...Such a waste of money and SPACE

I still want backups of an eye shadow or select lip product now and again, but I didn't need 3 backups of the Studio Lights. And I sold my backup of Wondergrass and Bronze Bronzeray Bronzing Stick.

The only back up i own is of Feline, i know i will use it.

Other than that I buy Backups of UDPP, because it's not sold at my local Sephora (YET!), so when i go to ottawa or something, i get a few.

My only prob with it is it smudges like heck!!!

Yep, I've decided this is a good idea, too. There's really no reason to have a back up of something unless I'm using it everyday...and really, how many of us use the same eyeshadow/lipstick/lipgloss every. single. day. given the many options available? I've tried doing that before just to get rid of a gloss or something, and three friggin' weeks later, I've only used 1/4 of the product! It's like the shit magically regenerates or something. The only item I'm even considering getting a back up of is Orpheus p/k because those darn eyeliners get used up so fast with sharpening.

I don't bother because by the time I am close to using something up, it is either re-released or there is a dup that comes out. I have only ever bought one backup, and that was a quad that I use pretty much every time I don't know what else to do with my face

I did it once (for a product that covered my dark circles)..and I felt gulity ...thats it ..did once ..never will do it again

i have only ever bought a back up once....Lucky Green e/s...i still haven't used the first one and how long ago did that come out? lol

i do kinda wish i would have bought backups of the McQueen paint pots, but i'm sure they would be dried out by the time i used the first ones..

i really don't understand the reasoning behind some people buying all these backups of just one product...seriously MAC always re releases things

For the same reasons as MzzRach stated -- I too have decided no more backups. I realized this when I wanted to get backups of Petticoat & So Ceylon.

it really does. i use it on my waterline, and then use another pencil on my lower lash line (something that wont smudge). I find it keeps from melting down my eye. When i line my upper lid i set it wwith carbon. It works and doesn't compromise the "blackness" of feline.

I only have 2 backups. Well, I guess more than that now b/c of my drunk internet haul, but that wasn't on purpose. So for this discussion I will just say I have 2 backups that I am definitely seeing a use for in the future. However, that is 2 backups out of about a trillion items. Backups are not worth it imo.
