Paris Carls Jr. commercial

What I meant was that women in general do not dress or "make themselves up" just for the hell of it. Women dress to impress other women. If you want to distort my mantra into me being shallow and jealous fine. I don't care. But what I will say is that we don't walk down the hall going "Oh my goodness, do see what Mark is wearing today?" No usually it's "I can't believe that she is wearing that!" At least I can see a beautiful woman and admire her for all that she has been blessed (or cursed with as some may say) and appreciate beauty in whatever way it presents itself.
Honey, please don't confuse me with a naive and insecure adolescent.
Oh, and I understood that you we're not talking about Paris needing to play well with others.

Though I did say the commercial is lame--and it IS-- I still adore paris in a straaange way. Sure, she's rich, pretty, flaunts it, but I would too! I'm jealous, but not in an angry way. I think she's a trip. Though I would rather hang out with Nicole Richie.

IMO that was in extremely juvenile interpretation of her post.

Wow, I can not believe how you keep contradicting yourself. And please, dont call me 'honey'. You can have the "I cant believe she's wearing that!" type holier-than-thou attitude, but dont use it on me.

I was simply stating that some people (not you specifically) are catty and jealous for no reason a lot of the time. Example, I had a little 14 year old girl size me up one day, I was like 18 at the time. What went through my head? Something to the effect of "dont even think about giving me that look babe, I'm not going to try to steal your little pre-pubescent boyfriend"

I'll bet you more women dress up and look nice for themselves than you'd think. I do not have a single friend who gets ready in the morning thinking "I have to look better than the other girls!" Nope, its normally more of "Hmm, I like the way this looks, I'll do it " or "Ohh, I'm trying to impress __guys name__ so I'll wear this"...but not trying to impress other women or outdo them. The fact that you have that mentality is what makes you narrow minded and shallow seeming. If me disagreeing with you makes me juvinile, then so be it.

Uh... Wait.. Hold up here. Where did I say or imply disagreeing makes you juvenile?

I'm not picking a fight or trying to start anything with you... I would just hate for someone to think I would be retarded enough to say "disagreeing makes you juvenile!".

I'm a neutral party, but since your pointing out the inconsistencies of her argument I would like to just mention you DID make this personal and specifically say she was 'shallow and jealous' which is synonymous with 'catty and jealous'.

Who pissed you off today? I refuse to belabor my point. There is nothing that I will be able to say that will make it transparent to you what I am trying to get across and I refuse to debate the issue further. Quite frankly, if a 14 year old was 'sizing' me up it wouldn't make a difference one way or the other, she's 14. Thanks for being an active participant on Specktra and I look forward to your posts in the future. You certainly have a passion for what you believe in. Though sometimes try to see discussions from multiple viewpoints, it makes life more interesting.

My take on paris hilton if i may:

I dont understand why a lot of women hate her. I dont hate her nor do i love her but i do respect her. I feel that she is a genious when it comes to business as is nicole richie. I mean look what they have created for themselves. They could easily have sat back and just been rich for the rest of their lives because of their families money however they decicded to do something with their richness and they turned themselves into practially royalty in some peoples eyes.. especially those of young girls whom admire them. Anyways i admire paris as well as nicole for that matter along with the other teen idols like the olsen twins and more for creating themselves into someone that most people want to know anything and everything about all the time. it must have been hard work to do. even tho they hire people to do certain things like publicity they still need to be smart about it and are active in every decision. So i think for all the people who think paris hilton is a stupid blonde bimbo they should rethink that because i believe that is only the image she has created to basically rule the tabloids and rake in the dough. i mean look at what she did with the simple words "thats hot" it runs along the lines of donald trumps "your fired" and he is a phenominal businessman to say the least.

What was hilarious abou this is I'm a HS-JH teacher....I'm in my 20s so I get sized up plenty. I'm "aging" now or getting more experience but at my first school I had teenage boys "hit on me" much to my chagrin- the girls openly hated me. My second school my little bitty sixth grade girls called me "a plastic" because well I was not native enough for them.. permed my hair wore makeup etc.. Which is funny because I've never identified myself as a "popular" person- I watched the movie and told the girls thank you - LOL they didnt like that response. My third school I still had more difficulty in dealing with that teenage girl catty attitude - I hate how girls treat each other, and I'll openly tell them not to make snide remarks directed towards classmates-- if you are shy - then you are picked on. My main rule is to treat others like you'd like to be treated. One job I'll never take: teaching in an all girls school. never, ever.... I'll go work in a prison first.

In teachers meetings - its generally the woman teachers who get upset and catty over things......... (my third school to work at... this is how it was at three in three states..) I'm no different.. I like to gossip, I'm catty can be snotty or bitchy... BUT I am a mac loving redneck with too much makeup... who does live in a trailer house, drive an old car... my dresser is well stocked though. My inner redneck likes to rebel at what society expects from someone making a decent income... I don't want a $200,000 house or the payments... I dont' want to pay $400 a month for a vehicle. or have a real credit card. I will admit that... I'd like to be a rich girl....but until then I'll keep my disposable income as high as posible... and keep up with mac and sephora. Besides I can wear a $200 face and noone is any wiser but myself.

Paris is cool because she can be.... She's not "my it girl of choice" though, I dont like her nose. lol
Sorry I teach therefore I ramble and go off on a tangent.

interesting discussion!! i don't like the commercial i suppose because i somewhere deep down expect there to be some logical connection between what they're selling and how they're doing it. i don't know why there's a car being washed or how the burger fits in. unless she just got hungry from all the washing. i don't like watching anyone try to eat something too big for their mouth as a general matter. the lettuce sort of drips out on her lip which i dislike. BUT i have to admit that now i feel like eating a burger...

anyway i think it's interesting how people have posted that they really respect paris hilton. now maybe this is me not getting it but i just never thought she really did anything worth being so effing well-known. i guess i find it odd how some socialites get so famous. i guess i expect someone to be famous for some sort of talent, but i suppose that means that in the back of my mind i never considered being super sociable and fashionable to be a talent. but perhaps it is?? or maybe i'm missing something altogether?

Well if you're rich, your famous. Think Donald Trump. The doesn't really do squat. But he's famous, No?

In high school terms, It's the rich, pretty, popular kids that get invted to all the right parties, and hang out with all the right people. You may not have, but I suppose a good portion of the school secretly wondered what life on the OTHER side might have been like, just for one day.

It's like that. The world is usually intruged by Paris.

hmmm. i hear what you're saying. and yes, i did (and do) wonder what it was like to be so desirable slash cool. but i thought all those kids were supposed to get fat and rot somewhere, but in retrospect i guess that's just what the mothers of less cool kids just told them to make them feel better... ANYWAY, i dig what you say about intrigue and interest, but do you think that translates to respect or at least some sort of frenzied fanatical love? or talent for that matter? i'm curious what you think...

I dont think it directs to fanatical love or whatnot. If its that type of obsession, its more than likely caused by the media or whatever. Being obessed with someone/something just because everyone else is doing it, or vice versa.

However, I personally, and I would assume others, respect Paris for not because of being an heiress or a socialite, that is just envy. But I respect her for handling herself well under great ridicule and mockery. Everyone of us say we can handle it. But we all know its still hard sometimes, and thats from just a few people. Paris probably deals with it from the world. And she still manages to push on through.

I admire people for "making it" My little sisters former HS classmate is Katrina Elam, she's not totally unheard of in the country music circle, she worked on a singing career since age 12 and (rode my school bus) but she certainly didnt start out as "one of the hottest young country singers" she was in people magazine for last fall. She's opened for Keith Urban all last fall and is still very nice when we've seen her, she worked hard for her young up and coming celeb. status which is very cool. My strangest experience was seeing her open and sang her single "No End in Sight"and Keith Urban came on stage if you haven't seen him before look at his picture on google. My sister and I had meet and greets we were waiting at the side of the stage and she came off and ran and hugged my sister she was SO happy to see one of her classmates at her "on the road" shows - there were 5000 other people there- she's the "star" well one of them.. and she was happy to see "us" just because she knew us since she was little - I was an aquaintenence(sp.) but she was the "star"and she is just a person. I have a lot of respect for that seeing her go from the little girl who sang at the hometown fireworks show to a more national level. I imagine people who desire and work at becoming famous in whatever circles are ridiculed. But this whole thing, then seeing her bashed because she pulled out of some shows for personal reasons made the "media" t hing seem more "personal" I hated seeing negative things or reviews of her, because she is a nice person.

All the celebrities are "people" I think thats why we enjoy reality tv so much... seeing them act like normal human beings with a lot more money than we have.

"along the lines of donald trumps "your fired" and he is a phenominal businessman to say the least."

I just have to interject that my boyfriend's grandmother has worked extensively with Donald Trump and his multimillion-dollar corporation. While he may seem like a great businessman, I don't see how filing for bankruptcy can be a "business move."
It runs along the same lines of how he treats his employees. He rarely pays any of his contractors or hired-out help. They have to SUE him to get their money, he has the better lawyers, and they end up settling out of court. Out of the $4 that he owed my-soon-to-be-step-grandmother's contractors--they got $150,000.

But I assume in the business world, its a cut-throat business. Theres no time for sympathy or morals to get in the way. So even though Donald may be immoral, back stabbing, and greedy. He knows how to work it. And he does it well.

And especially in multi-millon dollar corps. Everyone is backstabbing each other to get ahead. And If you're not really to play by those rules, you get kicked out. :p

I understand and agree that it's just like that in these huge corporations and even smaller ones--that's business!

I just HATE the fact that I always hear people calling him a ROLE MODEL. Hey, Enron execs got caught, Martha got caught, maybe he will too one day....unless he manages to pay everyone off!
