I have started a service of donating beanie babies to kids in Africa who are suffering of AIDS/are orphans. I saw pictures, and it broke my heart. A beanie baby makes these poor children light up and smile. Here, a lot of kids have hundreds, while there, some have barely any. They can be new or used, just as long as they aren't breaking at the seams. I gurantee you that they will be loved so much by these children. My mother's friend will deliver them personally. So if you can, PM me and I will give you my address to send the beanie babies too. Hopefully we can make everyone's holiday season bright!!

Well that's a good start at doing something about the situation. But that's not what they need or want, I can guarantee that. I'm pretty sure they won't even care about a beanie baby. Things like that don't bring happiness to people who are suffering from sicknesses/AIDS/etc. What they need is medicine, food, shelter, clothing, other necessities.

Actually you'd be surprised what a toy can do for a child's life, particularly in an area where they have none.

I'm adding some photos today, and I swear they will break your heart. My mother's friend needs to email them to me, and as soon as I get them, I will post.

When I went to South Africa-and saw Suwetta, we gave out beanie babies- and you wouldn't believe these children. We may as well have given them $5,000 USD. They were so excited. I saw this precious little girl and I gave her one and the next thing I knew this child looked at me, gave me a hug and ran home she was so excited.

When we went from South Africa to Zimbabwae we had the same reaction. Even the older kids loved to get these stuffed animals because they really are a sign of hope.

People don't think that something we take for granted is useful or really needed but for the kids-they really are.

oops i didnt mean to thank this. sorry i disagree with this TOTALLY. children would choose toys over medicine anyday. plus i feel they need toys.. come on.. most kids have toys growing up.. you may not think they need it now.. but imagine you at a young age and then ask your self whether you would want medicine or some toys.

What a great idea, Charlotte!!!!

It's unbelievable how much a toy can brighten a child's world; especially a kid that's never had even ONE toy!!!

Could any of us imagine what our childhood's would have been like with NO toys?? Pretty fkin' bleak.

Sure, they need food, medicine, and clothing too....but they also need something to brighten their days. I think it's wonderful, and should be commended!

i disagree.. toys brighten up a childs day and take thier mind off things and let them enjoy the child that is deep inside of them instead of being that one who has to worry about whats wrong with him/her or whether they will wake up tommorow.

i dont know what beenie babies r.. can someone shw me a pic?? Id like to donate some things if i can send em ova..

You're all right now that I think more about it. But for some reason, it still seems kind of unbelievable for me to think that something like a beanie baby could actually brighten up a child's life. I don't know why but it's just difficult for me to believe that. Which is why I stated before that they needed necessities that's more useful for them.

A toy makes any kid happy. They do have those basic needs, but I think a parent is more concerned about that than a child. I mean what child gets excited about getting a sweater or underwear for their birthday or Christmas? None really, so a toy would mos definitley bring a smile on a kids face. No matter what or where their situation is. That's very nice of you Ette for doing this.

Then you've never known deprivation as these children do.

Trust me when I say, little things like this mean a LOT to kids in this situation.

PM me your address, I have tons of Beanie Babies. Do you want other stuffed animals too, or just beanies? And do they have to be new? Mine aren't, but they're in good condition.

There are many organizations that serve the purpose of getting food/medicine to these children. Supporting these organizations is a wonderful thing to do, but it's not something you would attempt on your own, as ette is doing with this project.

btw, I think this is a wonderfully sweet idea. I don't have any Beanie Babies, but good luck!
