Poll because I'm bored: Do you believe in Ghosts? Why or Why Not?

I've experienced some strange things. I'm not saying it's ghostly activity, only that it's PARAnormal (above the normal!) The strangest was at a reportedly haunted hotel in New Orleans, a few years ago (we make a point to stay only at locations that are rumored to be haunted. I went to sleep. Now, I insist on having the blankets loose on the bed...not tucked in too tight by my feet, and always up over my ear (strange, I know.) I wake up in the middle of the night, and to my bewilderment, the blankets are NOT up by my head, but down under my chest, and tiiight! I'm groggy, but I notice that they've been folded down, and tucked under the mattress, like in a hospital. I'm too tired to care, so I untuck the mess and go back to sleep. Turns out, the room I was sleeping in is rumored to be haunted by a slave who used to care for children, and many people complain of being tucked in at night! Very strange!

I said a little earlier in this thread that I spend a lot of time ghost hunting with my mom. The scariest thing that's ever happened to us (I'm good at explaining away 98% of what happens) was when my mom was trying to catch an EVP (electronic voice phenomena...a ghost talking on tape). We were at a supposedly haunted restaurant in Chicago, and she stuck her DVR up into the attic. The resaurant was completely silent and shut down for the night, she made a note of this before starting the recording. Well, she plays it back a bit later, and even though the attic was totally silent and abandoned, on the tape was a total commotion...it sounded like a dining room during dinner rush! Footsteps, voices, clattering pans...and the scariest of all, a man's voice yelling something that sounds like "Yeah, out," or "Get out!". Eeek.

Just thought I'd share!

The strangest thing happened to me reciently

My Grandma (my dads mother) Passed away in August 2006.

A few weeks ago I was spending the night at my dads house , and I had this weird dream that My grandma called me from Heaven on my cell phone. Just to tell me that she was watching over me, and that she was ok

I wake up immediately, Feeling VERY strange, I reach over to grab my cell phone to see what time it was, and the front screen of my flip phone was lit up.... Just like it is when I end a call.. or open and close the phone (you all know what i'm talking about)

Coincidence ? I think not.

So I'm looking out the dining room window and from my right, off in the living room I heard "Mom" in my voice. I turned towards that room totally startled and then I hear my Mom from the family room go "What?"
Okay first off, 99% of the time when I would call my Mom she would not wake up and secondly we were the only two in the house.
Needless to say I bolted and started yelling "That wasn't me, that wasn't me!"
Freaked the f-in heck out of me. That 100% confirmed the whole ghost thing for me. No one can ever tell me otherwise.

Oooh creepy !!! And also something that can't be explained away by imagining things, etc. Like two people sharing a dream - it must have been *something*. I shouldn't be reading this thread ... it's nearly bedtime.

Bernadette, that is scary!!! If something happens once it can be a coincidence, but if something just continues to happen... well I couldnt live in that house!

MAC-Attack, please post your other stories!! I'd love to read them!

I talked to a friend about Ghosts and the supernatural and she said there's a ghost in her bathroom. She says that every time she washes her face and looks into the mirror above the drain she sees a lady just standing there looking at my friend. Sounds awkward to me, whats up with all of them bathroom hauntings?! lol I am not sure if I should believe her cause it sounds a little like a horror movie...

I have an idea but I am not sure if it even makes sense...uum, what about making this thread permanent, I mean add on of them "sticky" things so it remains on the top page of this subforum all the time and everyone can post their newest experiences or ghost stories?! Just an idea...

Eeee...reading all these stories give me the chills lol. I love hearing about it though. At night when I'm asleep and I suddenly wake up for no reason, I always look around the room. It's almost like I'm expecting to see something...weird!

Yeah as I mentioned before I've only had one experience and I'm kinda unsure about it but I know way to many people who've had experiences. For some reason, my younger brother and sisters have had so many experiences themselves, it's almost like that have a 6th sense or something. I guess it what it comes down to is...certain people are more sensitive than others.

I also love watching Sylvia Brown on Montell Williams Wednesdays. People go on there asking about experiences that they have had and you should hear some of the responses that Sylvia gives...fricken crazy!!!

Young kids are more likely to have encounters with the paranormal, or whatever you would like to call it .

I used to belong to a large ghost hunting/paranormal investigator group in my city (Until they started doing things like trespassing on private property and I wasn't down with that..AT ALL ) I've done tons of research on this type of thing. and been to quite a few supposedly haunted places.

I have a great story about the Glen Tavern Inn of Santa Paula California.

Background

The Inn was built in 1911 when Santa Paula was a booming oil town. Its stately design is the work of architects Burns and Hunt, a firm renowned for their monumental properties throughout costal California. Now a Federal landmark the Inn has lived to tell of the colorful eras and antics spanned by its near 100 year history. True to its Wild West beginnings, the hotel’s 3rd floor once operated as a gambling parlor and house of ill-repute. During Prohibition, a speakeasy was added to these dubious diversions. In Hollywood’s early hey-day the town was a favorite big studio filming location. Stars including John Wayne, Carol Lombard, Harry Houdini and Steve McQueen enjoyed the gracious accommodations – and the bar.

Its a Really Really neat place, Haunted. but neat..

A few years back it was really run down, the rooms were rented out for cheap rates and a lot of drug deals and all of that kind of crap went on there. A friend of my boyfriend , moved to CA from washington to start school, but was shortly kicked out for not making good grades.
His last resort was the Glen tavern, it was cheap. so he stayed there maybe 6 months before leaving. I always had a really creepy feeling about the place.

ON TO MY STORY
A friend of mine, and I went to the Glen Tavern One day to check things out in room 307. supposedly the most haunted room according to storys , 3 people were killed in this same room at 3 separate times.
I know one story is a prostitute was killed and put in the closet, and another guy got shot in the head during a heated round of cards.

We go to the front desk, Tell the lady where we are from and she gladly hands over the keys to room 307, which was being newly renovated for the overhaul of the Inn. so we go up to the third floor, and room 307 at the very end .. . We walk in .. nothing. ok so we look around... still not really experiencing anything.. then I start to hear water running in the bathroom.. so I walk in there,, nothing cobwebbs in the sink and bathtub.. no water..my friend said she also heard it.. ok well thats weird.. so we look into the closet.. then we started taking pictures.. Thats when we started to feel strange.. a sort of sense of Unwelcome so we decided we better bail. We go out, turn to lock the door.. and as we stick the key in the door to lock it, the smoke alarm bell which is right behind us goes off.. we scream, we run to the stairwell but the fire doors slam in our face. we scream and have to turn to run the other way past room 307 once again .. and out the outside fire escape made or rickety old wooden stairs. we run to the front desk and the woman looks at us and says "were you smoking in room 307?"
"no we were not" then she says, thats strange because the computer is telling me that the smoke alarm was set off in room 307, thats were you guys were right?" and we told her what happened and she was creeped out by it also,

I haven't been back to the Glen Tavern Inn.. since.. no way. no how.. haha

I think I do. I'm not completely sure. I used to live in an apartment buildling that had been a hotel during Prohibition. It has a blocked up tunnel underneath that the owner liked to show on historical tours- smugglers used it to run alcohol and guns through the town. I was sitting in my living room one night, just watching tv, and heard a noise at the door. I saw the deadbolt turn, the door handle turn, and the door open. And there was no one there. And I was the only one with a key to the deadbolt. I searched outside the door, on my floor and below, and there was NO ONE around. Scared me to death.

But on a more comforting note, when my grandfather was diagnosed with leukemia and was in hospice, I had a dream. My paternal grandfather had died in the same hospice a few years earlier, for background info. I dreamed I was in my grandpa's hospice room (which I hadn't seen yet, btw). He was sitting up on the bed, and my paternal grandpa came in. They sat down on the bed together and told me how much they loved me and how proud they were of me. Then my paternal grandpa took my grandpa's hand, and he told me that even though he loved me so much, it was time to go. And they walked out of the room togethr. I flew in the next day, got to the hospice, and it was the room from my dream, which I had never seen. My grandpa died the next day. He wasn't able to speak by the time I got there, but I believe it was him speaking to me in that dream.

It was actually even weirder than i described! She dreamed that she and the ex were standing on a pier in the SF bay, and there was a dog swimming or walking under the water as well. The SF bay was creepy because the woman commited suicide there and the dog part was weird, because during the memorial ceremony everyone was on a boat in the bay, and this huge sea lion (or some other type of sea animal - I can't remember what she said) was coming up to the boat.

That is so cool, I've always wanted to take a tour of haunted places in America! However that would definitely not be my mom's cup of tea. Too bad TAPS doesn't need any extra people!

Steve, from TAPS, just announced that he'll be at this convention that I'm going to...I'm so excited!

If anyone gets a chance, the convention is called GHOSTOCK 4 (I've been to 2 others, super fun!). Its in Savannah, GA at the end of the month. Check out www.ghostock.com for information. I think all the investigations are full up, but there is 2 days of panels/discussions. If you're into this kind of stuff, its super fun!

oh dear yes. i have two creepy stories:

1) one time my friend Lindsey was spending the night. she had a sister who would be older than her, but she was killed by their abusive father when she was 3. that night she wore her sister's necklace and before we went to bed i distinctly remember her playing with it and such. the next morning it was gone. we looked under my bed and on the floor and etc but we couldn't find it. a little while later, after she got home, she called me and told me she found the necklace. it was at home in her sister's old jewelry box.

2) i used to do community service at a vet (because my school requires it, not because i'm a criminal
winks.gif
) and upstairs there was an apartment-type thing that an intern was staying in. one night her two dogs went over and both stood up in front of the door, in sync. she stuck her camera phone out the door, took a picture, and quickly brought her hand back in. when she looked at the picture, there was clearly a girl's face in the picture.
