Recommendation for liquid & powder foundation

I did a search here, but did not find anything that really suited what I am looking for.

My problem is - I have extremely oily t-zone.. and super dry cheeks/corners of my nose with redness in that area too..

i'm not really acne-prone but i've noticed - right now i'm using the MAC Studio Fix Fluid and it's breaking me out.

I have tried Revlon Colorstay for combination/oily skin.. but for me the coverage wasn't full as everyone had reviewed and stated (on MUA/blogs etc).. no matter how much i put on... if i put too much on though - it'd be super noticeable)

and for powders i was using Stila's illuminating powder in 50 watts as the woman at the store recommended - but when i used it - it oxidized and made me look orange and sunburnt lol..

I did try the MUFE HD foundation and the coverage wasn't as full as i'd wanted.. i did try it with the HD powder but even if i used a tiny bit - made me look white or like a ghost.

I have slight discoloration if you can see (darn lighting makes it hard for you all to see) (Sorry for the ugly bare naked face lol)

photo169.gif

my lower chin (on both sides) are kind of discolored/dark.. it's not rough - just a little bit darker - don't know why..

photo170.gif

this area is dark too (and then the corners of my nose are red)

photo171.gif

this is after putting on MAC Sheer Pressed Powder and Coygirl blush.. don't know if you can see - but it's slightly discolored.. and my blush looks funny.. but this is the same look i get even with foundation on.. i've tried mixing the MAC SF and the Revlon Colorstay together.. but still could see through it.. and my blush would be blotchy no matter how much/little i tried blending..

and i do clean my brushes (face brushes and eyeliner brushes i wash daily) and i wash my face and moisturize appropriately.. i also exfoliate my face with face scrubs etc..

so i'm just wondering what other foundations are out there that would work in covering my trouble areas on my face and be able to last long (if not all day)..

I heard the MUFE Mat Velvet was a good choice - but after trying out the MUFE HD foundation - i dont want to waste $40 on something that might not work..

are there any other recommendations out there you'd all recommend?

I would put lotion only on areas you need it. The MUFE is great, but it's what I wear for light to medium coverage. For going out or a medium to full coverage I use Laura Mercier Oil Free.
Revlon Colorstay looks fake and cakey on me. I've heard many people say the MAC SFF breaks them out, so I've never tried it.
Hope that helps

Thanks I appreciate that! I do only put moisturizer on my cheeks and dry corners of my nose not on my nose because i find myself more oily..

I don't know where a Laura Mercier vendor (or where i can purchase it).. but i'll look into that too..

I would try out the MUFE Mat Velvet though, I really love it.

You don't have to commit to buying it, if you go to Sephora you can ask one of the sales associate to give you a sample of the product. They can do this for most foundations as well.

I also like Clinique's Even Better liquid foundation, it doesn't cause me to break out.

Yeah, I only found out about this after I ended up returning some foundations because they broke me out.

This has been an incredibly useful discovery!

Yes, they have both of those.

You might just want to ask a sales associate what foundation they recommend too.

You should try and get a sample of Shiseido's Dual Balancing Foundation while you're at Sephora. It has pretty good coverage and works for both oily areas and dry areas (hence the name: dual balancing).

I'm not wuite sure if MUFE Mat Velvet would be the best for your dry cheeks because it can be a bit drying. But trying samples won't hurt :p

If one isn't helpful, just ask for another one. Be specific in what you want so they don't think you are just looking, I guess.

and yes, a blot powder is a good investment when you have oily areas of your face.

Okay I went to sephora (and mac) today.

for some odd reason it was super packed in there and there was barely anyone to help.. i found an SA but she kept saying, "i'm working in skin today not color - but i guess i'll help you".. i told her my issue and the recommendations i jotted down from this thread.. and she said none of them she recommends but if she had to - she recommended the laura mercier oil free.. she color matched me in sunny beige..

i just asked for a free sample because well she was rushing too much and i didn't want to purchase it feeling rushed..

i also got MUFE Mat velvet in 35 sample.. i wanted to get the sample for the Shiseido Dual Balancing powder - but they only had the skin care products not the makeup line.. and i was already there forever and hubby was wanting me to come home already (i had been at mac prior so time was limited)..

i ended up getting Cliniques even better liquid foundation.. i had to run to the other side of the mall (the mall is pretty big for me).. and i could feel i was sweating like crazy.. but when i looked in the mirror... in the car after running there lol, i was not shiny! (well the left side of my face i put the laura mercier and noticed it caking on my cheeks.. but on the right side of my face the clinique's was still as nice and matte.. but a bit dewy on my nose (but not shiny).. so i was happy with that..

I did want to get some recommendations for a powder (on days where im in a hurry to go to work and need a quick powder fix.. or also to use to set my foundation).

any recommendations with my skin issues above?

i was thinking these were alright? (any advice would be appreciated)
Clinique • Blended Face Powder and Brush

Clinique • Almost Powder Makeup SPF 15

Or the Lancome ôscillation Powerfoundation?
I don't know if these are good for my oily t-zone/dry cheeks though..

going to bump this in hopes everyone will see <3

im off to work! will check back soon!

p.s. this morning i put my clinique even better liquid foundation.. tried to set it with the MAC sheer pressed powder.. it actually made the foundation oxidize and turn a little darker orange..

here are some pictures don't mind my hello kitty scrubs lol

me1pn.jpg

so i'm guessing these two shouldnt go together? lol

Added pix right above this post so those can see.

Should I just use the foundation alone and try it out again?

But still looking for powder recommendations

just wanted to jot down my experiences and if anyone has any recommendations/advice
winks.gif

so as the posts above - i tried the clinique even better foundation.. still a bit cakey on the cheeks.. and didn't go well with my sheer powder..

so next day i tried the sample of the Laura Mercier Oil-Free.. and it dried my cheeks a bit and didn't keep the shine at bay.. i tried it the day after using my sample of cosmedicine medi-matte and the shineyness was gone, but still dried out my cheeks like crazy..

so the day after that.. i tried my sample of MUFE Mat Velvet.. and mizuki~, you were right! dried up my cheeks SO bad i had to wash it off!!

So.. i finally went back to sephora, and found an SA that was able to help me.. she did pick out
Too Faced Primed & poreless
Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation in New York Light
Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Translucent pressed powder

well when she put it on me, it did look lovely (hence why i bought it).. but an hour after application - it caked badly on my cheeks..and looked horribly in natural light (hubby asked me wtf happened to my face) lol.. and i tried it today.. didn't use the brush it came with.. i used 130 mac brush.. and i guess my cheeks just aren't liking these products..

i think im going to try: NARS sheer foundation (heard it was good? - any input would be great though!) .. also going to try Estee Lauder's Double Wear...

heck i'm even thinking about trying Revlon's PhotoReady foundation..

as for powders - i have no idea! what are you combo skinned ladies using that work?

Hey I know you are looking for makeup recs, but if your t-zone is really really oily and your cheeks are really really dry (and red), then your skincare routine isn't doing its job and you should look for something better suited for your skin. I think if your skin were calmer you'd have a better chance finding a suitable foundation/powder.

With that said, have you checked out MUFE Duo Mat Powder?

(Just my opinion. Good luck either way)

I have an oily T zone and I use MAC's Refined Zone (came out with Tabloid Beauty and is now perm) on my oily areas and then use the new mineralize foundation, then top that off with MAC MSFN in Med/Dark and I'm good to go!

I do love Nars Sheer Glow but can't really be forking out $40 each time...luckily the mineralize foundation does the job although I am curious about Face & Body now.
