I don't know whether it is my computer or what, but Smoke Signals pigment looks REALLY dark, almost black.

It can't just be you too because it's also my computer. Tried it on two different monitors. So either the color swatch is accurate or it's abad picture. Because to me it doesn't look like that swatch could come out of that pot.

The swatch looks quite black to me too. I was thinking that, since the pigment's name is Deep Maroon, the flash may have washed out the product in the jar because it doesn't look dark enough to match the name.

Ok, so I got a sample of Smoke Signal pigment. I am pretty disappointed. It is a matte texture, and pretty dark. Not as black as it appears in the pics, but still pretty dark. I am NW15, and on me, it's more of a red purple. It looks more purple on me than I'd hoped it would. I haven't tried it on my eyes tried it on my eyes yet, but from the swatch on my hand, it has the potential to be a very bruisy color on me. I will be passing on a full jar for sure

I'll post pics in the morning daylight.

How does everyone feel about all of these matte textures that seem to be coming into vogue?
I'm ambivalent; I used to go for nothing BUT mattes(at least in eyeshadows; it was "cream" finishes in lipsticks), but during the past few years, I've grown very fond of shimmer, and have learned to look for it.
But, as I said, I used to use nothing but mattes, so I guess I can go back, if I have to.

I don't use them much, only because I don't have that many, but I plan to beef up my collection with the Matte2 collection coming. I like to use them in combination with shimmer and sparkle. With this pigment though, I am no so much disappointed in the fact that the texture is matte, I'm disappointed that the color isn't flattering on me

What a wonderful thought!
I can use this as an excuse to buy more stuff! Now, I can take a second look at all those shadows whose color looked so pretty, but the matte designation made me say, "Neh ..."
And there's not a thing wrong with putting a shimmery clear gloss over a matte lipstick ...
This fall may turn out to be fun, after all!

I am THRILLED. I find that shimmer often gets in the way of my work; shimmer shadows usually (not always) have less color payoff, and they always tend to look "sloppy" to me when applied on their own. Plus, I think that too much shimmer looks cheap. I work almost exclusively with matte textures (nearly ALL my shadows, lipsticks, and blushes are matte), and I sparingly add shimmer layered on top for the occasional pop. Plus, matte works better for drag, which is what I use my makeup for half the time.

I agree, esp. with the bolded. Mattes get the job done when you are trying to achieve a certain look. Satins are also a nice alternative to mattes.

I only own one full sized matte and rest of my mattes are samples - because - I usually reach for a frost. So I am a bit disappointed that this one is a matte. Having said that I dont mind using the mattes, I just dont use them a lot. I will probably buy a full jar of this one anyway because from the swatches I see I really like the colour, plus like Randy Rose has said a little shimmer over the top, maybe like Vanilla or one of the pearlizers, would probably be very nice

Mmmmmhm. I love Satins . . . really, I'll use anything BUT Frosts. When I say matte, I really mean anything without a pearl/shimmer. I stick mainly to Mattes, as well as a handful of Satin, Velvet, and Veluxe. I'll pick up an occasional Veluxe Pearl to lay over a matte shadow, and I own one Luster (Swimming) that I use for the same purpose. But my shimmery shadows hardly get used at all. The only Frost I own is Big T, and I'll pitch that just as soon as a comparable Matte is available (fingers crossed that Storm Watch is a good replacement, although it looks a bit darker from the one picture I've seen)

From the picks it looks like it might be. If you can find Ingenue Blue (@ a CCO or still hanging around a counter), maybe you could pitch it early. IB is definately a more blue teal than Big T and because it's a Veluxe (I believe) the color payoff is a bit compromised, still it is frost and shimmer free.

I'm so excited for this collection, my wallet cries. I def want both of the pallettes, the Raven kohl powder, and that smoke signals pigment.

Oh yeah, the smoke signals pigment!! When I was in MAC 3 weeks ago, the MUA let me see some swatches of the collection. I just about died when I saw a swatch of ss! They had never let me see the book of upcoming collections before! When I go there Thursday for 3-D (It's hard for me to buy lip colors online), I'll ask her to swatch me with that pigment. I'm anxious now to see if it's that rich on my NW45 skin...

Yeah, it looks cocoa friendly, so I'm excited.

I've heard numerous people now say " kohl powder" when AFAIK it's kohl power as in a longer lasting kohl pencil... so what's the deal which one is it.

I remember reading a post on here on makeup tips, I think it was by SonRisa, and she said mattes are better to use in the crease than anything with shimmer as the crease is meant to appear to recede, and shimmer brings things 'forward'. If you agree with that principle then i guess it will be good to have more options

It depends on the persons eye, some people do need their creases to recede back further and some people have very deep set eyes that you don't want to recede further. I wouldn't do a heavy frost but a light toned shimmer can help those people.
