Everyone has given really good advice, my advice would be to be open and friendly with your classmates. Don't underestimate the value of a study group, i was never a part of any formal one but I made friends with some girls in my glasses my 3rd year and my grades improved drastically. It really helps to have people to compare notes with, and since everyone learns differently some of us would understand different topics better.
Since you are going into science and technology it is WAY going to be about memorization in your first couple semesters especially. So start studying at the beginning of the semester do not procrastinate. Cramming, is not good. Exam time should be about reviewing stuff that you already know and understand and just securing the details... School is SO much easier if you take it seriously the whole year!
If you can get your hands on sample-exams, do it. At my school the professors would often put them at the library on reserve and you could photocopy them, nowadays they probably have them online. Sometimes they clue you in to the things that are important... ex one class I took, I can't even remember it was called (but it was about Human Genetics... ) I never would have thought that memorizing the amino acid sequence of a section of the protein we were talking about was important... I looked at the sample exam, and saw a question and ended up memorizing all those little sequences... there was a question like that on our mid term. If they give you sample exams its for a reason.
Go to your Tutorials, its a must, I never got why they had them until I started going in my third year. There are things that you will learn that the professor won't feel the need to explain in class. Talk to people in your major, try and find out which Teaching Assistants are helpful. I was truly blessed to have the T.A.'s that I did in most of my lab classes. People who actually cared and really helped you understand what was going on. Ask questions.
Hope you do well, and while I'll recommend not spending a lot of time online, if you need to vent or feel like updating I'm sure we'll all be here to listen
