Haha no, no timer. I just hold the camera in front of me. Um...I always use the flash because the pictures don't really turn out if I don't. They're WAY too dark. For the close-ups, I use the macro setting...but there seem to be two on this camera (it's my parents' camera...mine got stolen like 1 1/2 years ago). There's one setting with just a flower icon, and if you push it again, you get a flower with an "s" next to it. I usually use that one.
I'm not sure what type it is though. It's kinda big, but it's nice. I would look, but I don't have it with me. :\
