The Cult Of MAC

What is it about collecting that has sucked you into The Cult of MAC?

I have always been into makeup and MAC, but in the last year I have increased my MAC consumption considerably and discovering Specktra has def. sent my MAC obcession into overdrive.

It is such an odd thing to collect (most of us don't own or want to own everything, and then you acutally use the products, not like other types of collections).

So what makes someone a MAC collector v. a MAC fan or avid user? And why do you collect or buy MAC?

I've always been a collector of things, whatever I've been obsessed with at the time (my Madonna collection is worth many thousands....) but I think MAC is so easy and fun and you can use it and it's not gonna put me too far in debt like collecting antique cars or something, at least not yet!!

just the pretty-ness of everything and the colors and the LE packaging, the need to use makeup, and the fact of knowing that certain items will be worth a lot down the road. I have learned alot from Specktra, and just seeing the ridiculous prices that people will pay to get their hands on some MAC from earlier years (ie parrot, judy blue, heatherette, pleasureflush, etc) and knowing that something i have now will be worth alot down the road in a few years. It's also fun and something to do and i look foward to seeing each new collection come out!! And i also love this specktra website!!

It's just that in a completely dull life with formerlly dull (but pretty) makeup, MAC was sort of wonderful. I got a bit color addicted after I started and realized that colors can have more dimension than I had formerlly thought (especially eyeshadows). It's also, for me, the hunt for the perfect <fill in the blank with whatever MU item you can think of>. The colors always get oh-so-close but not quite and there's always something else that comes along that gets close to whatever it is I'm looking for later on, hence more collecting. (totally not sure if that makes sense).

But I don't care what anyone else says - the bottom line is it's just FUN!!!

I'm not a collector; I don't have the depth of interest, the time or the dollars to create a complete back catalogue. I just buy for my own use (and my professional use as well, but that's a different sort of need) and treat it as a pleasurable indulgence. I work with make-up all day; it's nice to have a hobby related to it that isn't associated with sales, EOD figures, making budget...

I suppose you could call me an avid user. My collection of BNIB HTF doubles is fairly comprehensive due to several years of crafty purchasing (always two, one for now and one for when it runs out), but I'm not actively looking to fill in the gaps.

I had been using mac for over 10 years now but what really makes me addicted is the "Barbie Loves MAC" collection and later on by discovering Specktra.

And I love the way MAC do the LE stuffs, special packaging with wonderful colors.

and all the darn LE releases really play into that....

I was hooked at Adorn when a cute little guy MA said "Here, buy this and you will be so happy with that one little color,..." and I bought it and low and behold,.. I started my MAC collection with a palette with Parrot in it.(This was only my second time to the MAC counter in Ayres) I always liked Make up. I really don't have the space to airbrush, paint, etc,.. so my creativity comes out in my MU. When I saw the quality and variety of MAC, it was a match made in heaven. Not only something that is worth collecting but something I do use and can also use on others,..and bring,.. well happiness. Spreading the "MAC beautiful" life one person at a time,...Just ran a co-worker over there yesterday and got her hooked on the Noisy black mascara,.. Bet ya she will go back for more,....

I have always collected something (greeting cards, carousel horses, Barbie *still do), but this is different, because I wear it (at least most of it).

I have to admit I have always liked cosmetics in pretty packaging, but it has gotten worse since I joined Spectra. Sometimes I see something and skip it, but when I see the photos posted by members I want it.

I have noooo idea where this urge to collect came from for me.

I've always been a natural girl....wearing no more than eyeliner and lip gloss everyday. Then one day I went with my friend to MAC because she had to pick up some Studi Fix and I was like.....

The colors were soooo beautiful.

And then C-Shock came out and I knew it was over!!! My collection is very small though...10 colors, one shadestick, 1 fluidline and StudioFix. But a vast improvement for me. Especially considering I JUST got into MAC last month!

I've always loved make up and MAC but it's spectra's fault for my new found love years ago. Here, you can see pictures and get true opinions of colors before you go to the counter.

i must admit, i was a MAC snob before. i thought MAC was soo overrated. i was dissapointed when i tried studio fix years ago and stayed away from MAC since then. but then i discovered this site thru MUA and got my interest growing. i think it was the eyeshadows at first, then the LE collections, came Barbie, and i was hooked! so bottomline -- specktra did it for me! i consider myself an avid user, not a collector i think, since i use all the stuff i buy, i don't buy backups (except for sweet and single) and i don't buy colors i have a dupe of. i hope it stays this way, because as it is, it is soo much getting expensive already. and just like what glittergoddess27 said, i can't express my creativity in some other way. it is easier with makeup and i am my own canvass and i feel happy and look good with my art.

The LE aspect definately plays in to all of it - and I just like pretty things. And unlike clothes, shoes, purses, and makeup are always going to fit *giggle*

i used to be afraid of MAC. the girls/guys were always flawless! i thought i could never ever look like that. and i had the idea that they were all stuck up. until i decided to drag for halloween. and every queen i know said "Go To MAC!" so i did and thats when i fell in love. the shadows, foundations, fluidlines, and mascaras! i was the best looking queen in the bunch. and the people there [every counter/store] are so nice and helpful. and i find that my MA (Sammie) at my nearest counter is abs the best! i love her to death and she made me so comfortable w/ myself and being there!

the regular products are addicting but what really gets me are the new collections and LE items. i cannot get enough of LE stuff. i go in the day it comes out and buy tons of stuff. and i havent even begun to collect anything pro.

When i discovered specktra it has increased my addiction. but i always tell myself, "At least my addiction isnt alcohol/drugs!" YAY!

MAC just makes me happy, when i buy it/try it/wear it!

I always had an addiction to makeup. I didn't buy much Mac because like Gabi said i felt intimidated by the MAs. They are all so flawless and beautiful. My addiction came last year around my birthday that I got my first coloured eyeliners, Minted, Foxy Lady & Navy Stain. I was in love from their but what really pushed me over the edge was the Barbie collection. That was love at first site and I got everything from the collection with backups.

The collections are all so lovely and the idea that it won't be around later makes you want to get it. I think Specktra has helped with my creativity alot. I see so many great FOTD and I want to copy the looks and get the different colours.

Its cheap and harmless. I think there is alot of worse addictions out there.

I have always been into makeup and used to be a die hard Chanel makeup wearer/buyer. A lot of my girlfriends in college always used MAC and I just didn't get why.
THEN...I was at Nordstrom one day looking for an aqua colored shadow (which Chanel didn't have) and I saw the Aquadisaic collection that MAC had. I bought the shadow, used it that night, and went back the next day for the whole collection.
After that Chanel went to the back of the drawer and it has been MAC, MAC, MAC ever since!

Plus with MAC you can get tons of stuff for the price of one Chanel quad.
Also Specktra has made my addiction worse but I love it!
