The dreaded drop...

This has probably been posted at some point, so sorry if it's a re-post! I dropped a sample eyeshadow the other day at my MAC counter. No no, I didn't just drop it, it went SMACK, I look down and the eyeshadow is in crumbs all over the floor. For a minute, I thought, hmmm maybe no one saw. -whistles and continues browsing- Then I felt bad, so I told my sales associate and she just was like "oh honey it's no big deal!" and just replaced it, but OMG I felt like a jerk. I thought I might have to pay for it for a few minutes! This ever happened to you? Did you tell someone or carry on your merry way? XD

It hasn't happened to me at the counter, but it sure has happened at home

I'm not sure if this is a good method, but you can add a few drops of alcohol to it ( in the tin) and then re-press it. The eyeshadow dries creamy, but it saves it.

You know what? I'm a huge klutz and speaking from a customer and retail workers point of view, TELL!! I used to be a key holder(assistant manager basically)/cashier/stocker/everything and I used to find all types of shit(literally) in every part of the store and to me it's embarrassing when you have customers coming up and telling you there's such and here and there and you're super busy but they're still looking at you as if asking 'When are you going to clean it up?'.

Plus, there's always the whole thing of someone could get hurt and I have seen people who've slipped on things on the floor or have tripped over something left in a aisle that the person(s) didn't bother to pick up and put back. Me personally, I always tell if I dropped something or broke something. For one, it was an accident and I'd much rather tell on myself then to have someone else tattle on me. It's embarassing for a second but once it's off my chest, I'm fine.

You are so right. I'm glad I said something, otherwise it would have eaten at me ALL day long! I was so relieved to find out it wasn't even a big deal to her!

I haven't had it happen at home yet (knocks on wood!) but I will def use that trick, thanks hun! I also heard a mixing medium works, too. Like a lot of people use that to press pigments!

It's happened to me before. It's no big deal. I just notified them and apologized. They cleaned it up and that was that.

I think it's always best to let them know that you have dropped or spilled something. It's just trifling not to.

OMG this happened to me, I was looking at the Red She Said MES, and I guess my arm hit one off the display as I was reaching and ALL 6 of them went sliding off like dominoes! They went rolling into the Nordstrom hallways and under the counters and everything! I tried to pick up all that I could (luckily none were broken) but I couldn't find one of them, until the sales girl found it a few minutes later. I was a little embarrassed.

But I am sure we are not the only klutzes that do this sort of thing, and they can replace them easily, so it's no big deal.

Omg, hun! Yours sounds so much worse! But at least you didn't break any! I'm sure it happens all the time, it's just I feel so bad, I have worked retail and I know how annoying people can be. BUT, they know what valued customers we are and how much money we spend there, so I guess to them it isn't a big deal, like ya said!

LOL this always happens to me.. usually when the artists are surrounding me like vultures.. it makes me nervous. I always drop paint pots and fluidlines - they are always so hard to get out of the holder.

Hahaha, I know! In a 5 minute timespan, 3 of them come up, "Have you seen this it's new!??!" "Are you still doing okay?!" "Let me know if you need anything!" "Are you sure you have this, maybe you don't have this color!" I love the help, but sometimes I just wanna browse and see where the MAC breeze blows me...

But yes it is nerve-racking at times!

I dropped Red Heritage at the store during the Overrich release. All over my pants, all over my shoes.. it was awful. I felt terrible as they were cleaning it up.

Oh my gosh, I would be the same way. It was like you had the scarlet letter on you for the rest of the day with that one. Hehe.

Seriously.. everything you said is exactly what I mean. I get in moods when I am shopping where I don't want to be bothered. That is why I like to shop alone. When the artists are too in my face and just want to walk away. it's such a turn off.

This is usually why I like to go to the stores where the artists are familiar with me. They know that I usually know what I want. They see me.. acknowledge me and know I will come to them when I need help.

That happened to me last year but it was one of the glitters...the whole vial spilled on me and inside my Nordstrom bag that had a black sweater lol. The MA looked at me and we both started laughing. We both cleaned it up and I was super glittery for the rest of the day.

not quite the same thing happened but one time i was in MAC getting a bunch of stuff, and taking my time about it, my daughter wanders into the store to see how long Ill be (she is 11 BTW, about to be 10 when it happened) she already knew she wasnt supposed to touch anything but she noticed I think it was the c shock collection display and of course those call to anyone right?
lol.gif
peering over them she was trying to get a better look without touching, her hands behind her back when someone else who was buying makeup and looking around the same area she was stepped back and into her since my daughter was right behind her. When the other lady did that, her purse swung wide and she knocked over the whole display. We all just stood there staring, and my baby about burst into tears she was so upset, but the other lady took all the blame and kept patting her on the head lol, telling her it was ok. She is still scared to go into MAC with me.

i've never dropped anything in the store.. but i was trying on clothes at hollister a few years ago & my blot powder fell out of my purse & completely shattered. it was everywhere. i nearly cried. obviously i wasn't going to leave a powdery mess on the floor at a clothing store, so i scooped it all up into the compact & shoved it back into my purse. man, that was the worst feeling ever.

I definitely think it's better that you say something.

Someone didn't screw the cap on properly on a pigment I wanted to swatch and I grabbed it and almost spilled it everywhere.

You're not the only one! I dropped not one, but TWO, bottles of BLACK nail polish on the tile floor at Ulta a couple weeks ago. I was mortified and helped clean up as best I could. At first the girls who worked there were looking at me like UGH but when I was being as helpful as possible and it was obvious I felt awful about it, they turned nice and were just concerned about me getting it off my (thankfully black) boots.

Mine is so much worse.............last year at the Mac Pro store on Robertson in Los Angeles and I was looking at the piggies, of course opening and touching every one and I guess I didnt replace the cap and dropped a whole jar of hot pink pigment on top of all of the piggie display stand and other piggie jars. A total breakdown of the display and cleaning came next with my help of course...........I know I was red as a tomato........it was so embarassing. Everyone was very nice about it while I was in the store.

thought process when we see something spilled all over the place+ noone told us:
"Oh shit, what retard dropped ___ and didn't tell anyone. Awesome, I wonder how long it's been like that/ how many customers have thought the store was a disaster and left."... and when we see it at the end of the night it especially sucks cause it makes us have to stay later than a non-spill night.

Thought process when someone spills something and comes up to us:
"Ah well, not the first time this has happened. Get the dustpan and clean it up. At least they told us and apologized".. usually if someone's gonna tell us, it comes with an apology. I'd rather have a decent human being drop something than an asshole =).

It happens all the time, no biggie. We only hate people who don't tell us =).
