To contour or not to contour?

I thought I'd see what everyone here does when it comes to contouring.
Do you do it at any time of day (daytime and evening, or just evening)?
What do you use?
Do you contour your whole face or just your cheekbones/nose/jawline/whatever?
Why?

I find myself switching around my routine pretty often. I can't decide what I like best! I already have pretty angular features..

I use the 109 brush and just use Wedge eyeshadow (I'm a 115 in MUFE, so I'm pretty pale).

I read on a blog that it's a dupe for one of the sculpting blushes from MAC. I do it all the time, including the day. To make it look as natural as possible I buff with the 182 brush a little after I've contoured. I do it under my cheekbones and lightly on the jawline. If you have angular features it probably isn't necessary to do it.. but you could try and do it and natural lighting (by a window) to make sure you like it. I think it makes you look very polished and slims out the face.

Makes sense that Wedge would be a good contour color! Yeah, I seem to like my contouring better when I do it in natural lighting. Often I'll think it looks good, then I'll go out in diffused daylight and my face just looks dirty and unnatural

Wedge is the dupe of Emote, yeah?

I've got prominent cheekbones, PPP, and I use MAC Strada for contour with an angled blush brush just under the highest sunken point of the cheekbones.
I don't do it every day, but if my cheekbones weren't so prominent I def would!

I'm not happy with the angled blush brush, it's similiar to the 168 but I think it's too big for what I want... any recs for a smaller brush head?

I'm still looking for the perfect contour shade even though Strada is good, I might experiment with a few shades up in MAC powder foundie for contour, or fiddle with some eyeshadows.

I did it for a little while, just to learn how to do it and practice. I don't do it anymore. I don't really think I need it. When I did do it, I only did the cheek bones.

I use MAC Emote, KEvin Aucoyn Sculpting powder in Medium (I am an NC15 too), Strada, Nars Zen...Wedge ES in a pinch, or some NC40 or 50 in Studio Fix Tube for photos.. If you use something creamy, you have to use a darker powder on top too. I contour for all photos and for evening (personal) Highlite with Albatross or any MSF to suit colors-- I am so into contouring now, I am still looking for more products!

Wedge is a tiny bit darker than Emote imo

I mostly don't. I'm fat, my face is fat, and it really doesn't seem to make much of a difference on my face. Contouring products that other people rave about usually have one of the following outcomes on my skin:
1) Too light and ashy
2) Don't show up at all, 3) Looks like dirt on my skin

IF/WHEN I countour, I stend to stick to highlighting and leave the rest of the sculpting alone, because of the above stated reasons.

I always contour whenever I do M/U-I like to do my cheeks, jawline and nose. It only takes an extra 2-3 minutes and I like the polished look it gives me. I'm a NW15 and I use the Bone Beige Emphasize Sculpt and Shape duo.

Hmm lots of Emote fans! I can't decide what I think of it on me. I'll have to try that Bone Beige Shape&Sculpt..

Also sorry about putting this in the wrong forum! I couldn't decide whether it should be in recommendations or not.. since I was looking for advice, but also just wanted to discuss!

I do it for evening make-up, using Emote or Kryolan M15 to shadow cheekbones, jawline and nose. Highlighting with a concealer a shade or two paler than my skin on the bridge of my nose, chin and forehead, and also to lighten up the slight shadows below the corners of my mouth and from nose to mouth. Shimmery highlighter on cheekbones, browbone, sometimes chin and undereye area - I love Everyday Minerals sparkle Beige for that.

For daytime I sometimes contour my cheekbones, but only a little and far from every day. Emote is a great colour for me, it blends very well with my skintone and it's easy not to overdo it.

I do really light bronzing and contouring every day.
I use Smooth Harmony beauty powder blush on my jawline, hollows of cheeks, and my hair line.
I use dark MSFN for more intense contouring, in the same places.

As with anything else, it changes with my mood. Sometimes I'll contour everything, sometimes I won't. I have a few different colours I like to use, but none are truly my favourite (maybe Emote, maybe).

I think it's soo pretty just to do a completely natural look with amped up cheeks (with contouring of course!!)

I only do my cheeks, cuz at least that I sorta KNOW how to do.

I make the fishy face and put darkest blush in that part, lighter blush on top, schmear some MSF and Tahitian Sand over it, then highlighter on the top of my cheekbones.

I don't wanna do the nose and all that...I'd be afraid to walk around looking like I had stripes down my nose. I do put highlighter on the bridge of my nose, though.

I contour every day. I do my nose, cheeks, hairline & jawline. I still have my Sculpt & Shape powder side in Lightsweep/Shadester so that's what I use.

wow, I was just gonna startg a similar thread! I contour some days, and I use an old matte bronzer (from Lancome I believe), but I'm almost out of it.

I'm gonna place a Pro order soon and I want to get a sculpting powder (and maybe also a shaping powder). Does anyone know which colour I should get? I'm an NW30 and my cheeks are naturally a lil flushed.

I do some light contouring everyday, but I really only go full throttle if I'm going out at night. My contour colors are Blunt Blush, Deep Dark MSFN or the dark color in Warm Light Definitive Sculpt and Shape (depends on the time of year) . My highlight color sare soft & gentle, lightscapade and shimpagne.
