I just helped one of my friends with the same thing. I recommend these four to start with:
1. Ricepaper
2. Wedge
3. Hoodwinked
4. Texture
Ricepaper is the best highlighter ever!
Wedge and Texture are great blending shadows.
Wedge and Hoodwinked and can be used for brows.

I'm just getting into MAC eye shadows as well. I currently only own 3 of them. I own Satin Taupe, Naked Lunch & All That Glitters, but after reading all of these I see a lot I'm adding to my wishlist!

I'm new to MAC eyeshadows too. Just saw a video tutorial by Monica Blunder and she used MAC's Paintpot colors. Never tried cream shadows. Do you guys prefer cream or powder shadows? And are cream shadows easy to apply?

I prefer powder shadows, but paint pots are excellent. Give them a try.

I just got MAC's Print to Shop. Its a really pretty dark grey color perfect for smokey eyes. LOVE it!

Eye shadows are my definite Mac addiction. Here are my faves in no particular order and there are more than 15. I tend to gravitate towards lots of colour! These are my faves just off the top of my head Woodwinked Satin taupe Vanilla Deep truth Parrot (LE but I use it all the time) Soft brown Stars and rockets Aqua (pro it think) Jealous wakes (LE but still use it a ton) Steamy (my absolute favorite!!!) Chrome yellow (pro) Parfait amour (my first mac shadow I'm on my third one) Beauty marked Carbon Electric eel
