That's ridiculous. Rules are rules. If you're not smart enough to read them, don't bother complaining later.

This is the kind of stuff I talk about when I say people use the race card to a point it's crazy and makes legitimate racism claims look like you're the boy who cried wolf. I'm pissed that the advocates don't think of the greater effect of their actions; they're supposed to be helping people, not hurting them. Actions like this are hurting the idea that racism exists. I'm not saying cower in fear about claiming racial issues, but don't claim them just to get your way.

The advocates? I'd say so. I don't think the woman would've been able to generate the press on her own, and they're just affirming her belief that she's right. If they would've taken her aside or released a press statement saying that they don't condone her actions or see the situation as racist, I don't think she would've gotten this far. I could be wrong, of course, but one of the things I've observed with claims of racism, both valid and invalid, is that the accuser always has a big representative and advocate against racism with them. In college, when there were claims of racism (I don't think some of them were racist, but I think it's sad that the school didn't take harrassment more seriously), all of the heads of the multicultural orgs dealing with ethnicity/race came together. It looks so much more credible to have a group of people, particularly those who are supposed to understand what racism is and fight it, than just one lone person.

The unfortunate part is that I've observed that a lot of people are quick to jump on the bandwagon before they know the entire story or are so stubborn they won't drop it. I've noticed this both valid and invalid claims.

Since TRU is a business, I'm not so annoyed with them. They have to protect their name and image. But I am annoyed with how the Chinese-American advocates are handling it.

i agree with most of you... rules are rules... AND I also think TRU should have made sure all of the entry mothers where able to even get the prize for the child... If the rules say LEGAL res.... then thats it... you have to be LEGAL! ANd now they(TRU) are giving the prize to the top 3... thats annoying!!! And unfair... so what about timezones (was this only an east coast thing?)

I think the prize should only go to the winner with the legal parents and thats it... and a runner-up prize should then go to the other kiddies.
