Unflattering Trends- Ignore 'Em Or Embrace 'Em?

I agree. Take the "nude lips" craze (Please!). You see it everywhere, but it looks terminal on me. So instead I wear the deeper, bolder colors that *do* flatter me, with lots of shimmer, which I like.
If extremely brown tones turn out to be The Thing this fall, I'll skip that, too.

My boyfriend wishes that I'd do the smokey eye look or at least line my entire eye - but I personally think that 1- it makes my eyes look smaller and 2 - even closer together.

I just modify a trend for myself. I do purple or taupe smokey eyes now.

The way I think it, make your own trends and stick with them like the French. What do you think makes them so classic? Their stubborness and loyalty to products.

I just dont follow trends in general. I buck the system. LOL

When everyone is wearing bronzes and pretty summer colors, I'm wearing fall colors. When everyone is in the dark eyes and red lips of fall or winter, I'm wearing oranges/yellows/pinks/lavenders and sheer lips.

Im a trouble maker. I'm a rebel of the makeup cause LOL

i hate short ankle boots. those scare me. I won't wear things i don't like, otherwise i won't feel comfortable and it will ruin the whole look.

My ideal thing would be to modify the trend to make it work if the way people are doing it don't work, but some where hopeless for me, ie. the ponchos, the peasant skirts, and so I passed-better to look good than trendy anyway. In terms of makeup it's way easier to modify the current trend or look so I don't have issues with that.

I think, sometimes, we get caught up in being 'trendy' and don't realize how silly we (or at least I) look, then look back at pictures and say HOLY MOLY what was I THINKING!!!

AGREE! Those short boots freak me out! it's a weird proportion.

And not feeling comfortable in your clothes... it ruins the outfit if you are uneasy with what you are wearing.

As far as trends though, I never go for them with much gusto. I know how to flatter myself with clothes, accessories and makeup. I don't need trends to get noticed or look stellar.

I do love nude lips. They look good on me! I've been doing smokey eye and nude lip for as long as I have been wearing make up... is that really a trend?

I agree too...I have the same issues with the pastel pinks, blues, and purples. They do not flatter my olivey-ish skin tone. I'll stick with my greens, golds, and browns, thank you.

I've tried some trends that have been absolute trainwrecks. Trends often don't even flatter the majority, so I don't bother with them anymore. Skinny jeans is a great example...in my opinion they aren't flattering on anyone who is shorter than 5'10 and weighs more than 110 pounds. And if such a person exists within that range that does look good in them, I apologize. I just haven't ran across one yet.

It's important to realize that trends aren't permanent...why spend a lot of money on makeup that doesn't flatter you AND is going to go out of style in a few months?

If a look doesn't work for you, don't try to wear it unless you have the know-how to adjust it so it does flatter you.

I just wear what I think makes me look good, and what I like. I don't really 'do' trends because imo I just look like a sheep who follows the crowd- who wants to look like every other girl? Makeup trend are often so stupid looking I often bypass them altogether- just take that trend where the bottom lip was dark red, and top lip light pink- I mean, ewww! lol...
