At first I didn't think your OCD sounded bad til I heard the ABC thing, then I thought OOOOOH OKAY
winks.gif

But, I am like that to to an extent. After I eat, NO MATTER WHAT I EAT, I have to wash my hands. I feel like they're "greasy" even if I used a fork the entire time. It's weird, it's not to the point where I like can't function if I don't but it urks me to no end. I pretty much HAVE to wash my hands after I eat anything. But I guess that's not anything super abnormal! It's just more the "icky" feeling kinda like you said, but I feel like my hands are greasy, then I'm gonna touch my hair and face and it will get on there!
I think OCD is treatable for sure. I know there are some medications for it, but the control aspect can be remedied with counseling. It is all revolved around control and fear. Have you ever watched that True Life: OCD? GOD, that was astonishing. I mean, the one girl was SO bad, she would re-do things like taking a plate from someone. Just amazing what people will do if they fear something or think the didn't do something 'right'.

Lol, I talk A LOT! I just love to talk, can't help it. I also like when other people talk a lot too.

The convo we just had on aim, wow AMAZING! LOL.

I'm weird with food and my hands too. Like i'll wash my hands before eating and if I even touched my food whatsoever with my hands I have to wash them afterward, sometimes twice. I haven't seen True Life yet! I'm about to see if I can find it later online to watch. Cause yeah some people have it BAD. I feel bad for them cause this can really interfere with daily life and get in the way of a lot of relationships.

I was watching this one show on national geographic about this rich dude from back in the day, he was married to jean harlow? Well he had OCD to begin with and later got into an accident that probably damaged his frontal lobe in his brain and thats the part that processes errors. After that happened, his OCD went from bad to EXTREME.

HAHAH @ AIM. Wow we are amazing.

You NEED to watch that truth life. There was one girl, she was SO gorgeous, she had this like HUGE fear that her mother was going to die. Like it consumed her. And she had rituals at night to PRAY that her mom didn't die. She would do this weird thing where she did like circles or something with her bible because she felt like it would make God happy and then he wouldn't let her mom die. WEIRD shit. She went to therapy and got a lot better!

Ya know, if you watch those like VH1 and E! shows about celebrities, a lot of them suffer from mental illnesses. I was watching a show yesterday about 80s teen idols or something, so many of them suffer/suffered from addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, lots from eating disorders. Kinda makes you realize that it really can be anyone. I mean I know they are human too, but their "extravagant" lifestyles make them seem so perfect.

I kinda have a similar job, thing is..the clients want something from us. Don't really want to expose the field I'm in and people start quoting me lol But maybe contact your clients through e-mail / mail / phone calls and let them know what's up and tell them.."If you don't show up, this is what is going to happen ____________." Yknow?! lol

Thanks, hun!

I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately, in the mental health field, we have to be careful with setting boundaries because the clients can easily go file a grievance against us which can lead to a write up if necessary. EVEN though we are setting boundaries HEALTHILY, most of them will get offended and file a complaint. But I'm gonna figure out a way to set those guidelines with the probation officer so he can back us up with no shows.

That really is a tough spot you're in. Definitely speak with your boss and maybe the two of you can come up with a plan. Question, though...if most of your clients are on probation and are court-ordered to attend counseling, then if they don't go - isn't that a violation of the terms of probation? Perhaps someone should gently remind the no-shows that they need to be attending counseling or they'll end up in jail.

Ya know, you would THINK that would make them think twice about not showing up, but it really doesn't. I have a few chronic no-showers and it is utterly ridiculous that they seem to not even care about their consequences. I have one guy that has violated 3 times in the last year, goes to jail for a few days, gets out and still no shows. I think some of them are so used to being in jail that it doesn't even bother them. Drinking/using drugs is more important apparently-----but they "don't have a problem"..........-ponder-

Ohh okay..hmm..I get it. Well basically, with dealing with those type of clients, it's pretty hard to be "soft" on them. I mean if I had issues like that, why would I go to a counselling session and waste my time doing _____________________. Whatever they like doing. Then if my caseworker pushes me, I'll just file a complaint. Well, you HAVE to have a manager or supervisor know about this. File all the contacts you've made with a client. Consult your supervisor. Tell them what's going on, show them you've contacted so and so two or three times. I'm pretty strict, lol..If they don't show up twice then that's case terminated. Just because they need to respect you and that you CARE about them. Because if you just let it slide, they tend to think that it's just some caseworker that wants to get paid and wouldnt mind if I don't show up. Y'know? I dunno, you might not feel comfortable doing that but yeah, that's what I do though. lol. Let them know that you WANT TO talk to them and that's the reason why you want them to show up. It's really up to you..I'm just saying let several supervisors and at least one manager know about the situation and make sure you track those email/mail/telephone contacts.

That's true. Maybe I could tell them if they miss too many appts, Ill just close their case and they have to talk to their probation officer before returning (which means theyll be violated)

Wonder if I can do that.

THANKS! =)

Some people have the craziest rituals. My new one lately since getting strep is to wash my hands before brushing my teeth, dry them off, squeezing a blob of toothpaste on the back of my hand, wet my toothbrush and get toothpaste on it, brush my teeth, rinse my mouth, and then wash my toothbrush completely with antibacterial soap. This was all after I learned that you could spread it through toothbrushes. I've even Clorox Anywhere sprayed it too along with the toothpaste haha.

You need to punish these no showers as much as you possibly can without getting in trouble with your boss! If that means closing there case so that they'll have to restart the process all over again, so be it. There are other people out there that actually want and need the help to get over their substance abuse. No offense, but these are obvious criminals who don't honestly give a sh*t anymore and don't want any help to get over their addictive or the hope for a life outside of prison. I was watching one of those inside the prison shows and it was mentioned that some inmates are just so use to prison and gotten use to it that they actually prefer to stay there instead of leaving!

Btw, I love how I'm posting this when I can just tell you this on aim and not get completely off topic in threads lol.
