OMG, I'm glad you are better. I had the same thing about 3 weeks ago and it was supremely awful!! It came on suddenly and was so bad that an ambulance had to come and get me to take me to the ER. They said it was a viral infection of the inner ear.

Shab- thats exactly what I have and how it came on. I almost had to be taken to the hospital to be hydrated because the vertigo was so horrible that I was throwing up nonstop. I couldn't even hold water down (sorry for the gross info)
