Weirdest Pets Ever

WARNING: This story is kind of sad and depressing although it is not meant to be. Feel free to skip to the end to get to the point of the post.
After 9/11 my family decided that we needed to get another dog, we needed some cheer in our lives. We went to a breeder in another state to get a German Shepard puppy and he was adorable. He grew up and never stopped acting like a puppy, which got old a little fast. He did weird things like carry shoes around the house and hoard beanie babies like a momma cat (he was a boy lol
th_dunno.gif
). A few years ago his skin turned started to turn black, turned out that he was allergic to wheat, so we switched his dog food. Then we found out that bee stings send him into deep shock. Turned out that he was allergic to everything. He was literally a genetic health wreck, he was allergic to every form of meat, plant, and dog food filler in existence including soy, flax seed, kangaroos and venison. He was placed on immuno-suppressants so that he could eat and he started to feel better. He then developed in infection in his anus. He went through a surgery and multiple laser treatments to fix it but the infection never went away. We took him to the vet a few days ago to be told that there was nothing else that they could really do and that he was simply under hospice care. I came into the house this afternoon to find blood all over the house, his anus had been bleeding. It was too late in the afternoon to take him to the vet, so I have to watch him overnight. He will be put down around 7:40 MDT tomorrow morning. To be honest after we got the allergy test back we were shocked that he was still alive. Inbreeding had caused the strangest allergies to develop. I am sorry to dump this on you guys, but I found it to be cathartic for me. Sorry its so long! Please don't feel bad for me, I knew that we would have been lucky to have him through the month. I am not trying to bring anyone down, I just needed to share.

I would love to know about any weird or strange pets that you have ever owned or encountered, he is certainly not the first weird pet that I have had! Please share your stories!! Thanks!!

Oh, i'm so sorry for you and your puppy buddy. My friend's dog was just put down and she was very upset. I'll tell you the same thing i told her.

In a lot of ways, animals are luckier than we are. If a person gets cancer, or some other disease that they know will kill them, we have to wait it out. As long as it takes. As painful and horrible as it is. Until we die. Our pets, get to go with dignity, and we help them end their suffering in a humane way.
Unfortunately, pets are so unlucky in many other ways. They often get horrible owner that do not love them, regard them with the respect that any living creature deserves, they do not care about their health or well being. Your dog was lucky enough to get a family that truly loved him. Most dog owners would not go through the time, effort and the expense of caring for a dog with so many medical problems. They would simply dump him somewher and he would quickly die. Your dog was given all the chance in the world. Unfortunatly his life was a short one, but i'm sure he was happy and loved your family very much. Treasure the memories your have about him, and hold him in your heart forever.

I have a weird cat. Well, she's a real sweetie. But she's busted her ACL twice (an injury that only happens in dogs really). The first time she did it we got her her surgery. It was a long painful recovery. She was crated for 2 months. 2 years later she blew the other leg (which usually happens). We did her surgery again, but she was being so stubborn. She would try and go up the stairs (to myparents room where she likes to hang out) on her bad leg... so obviously it wasn't healing. She would walk with her leg cocked back. But she needed to put pressure on it in order for it to heal too ya know? Anyway, she did t his for like 2 weeks. Finally, one night i sat with he ron the couch all night and i talked to her about. I litteraly talked to her like i would take to anyone else. I said " Mojo, i know your discourgaed. I know your depressed. But you're not gonna get any better until you try. You need to try just a little. A little here and there and it'll help. I promise it will." And i just kept saying this over and over again. I shit you not, the next day she started walking on it bit by bit. My cat and i have a connection that is unreal. For two months (for her recovery) i spelt on the couch with her on the cushions in front of me. Usually she hates to have her paws touched, but she was so sad, she let me sleep while i held her paws.

Awww my mojo

I also have a cat that chirps. She literally sits at the window and chips and makes clipping noises at the outdoors. Weirdo.

That's so sad, I'm so sorry about the dog. Inbreeding is horrible, especially when you see the effects of it like that white tiger that was on the internet say a year or a few months ago.

I have a cat who was a stray and he's been with me for about four months now and I swear he's a HUMAN, no lie. My boyfriend and I swear that this cat is his grandfather. He sleeps on pillows under blankets, takes food off the plate and runs, drinks water out of the shower, likes to get wet but doesn't like being dried, sleeps like a baby on me, chases people around and then attacks their ankles. He even sleeps on his back with his legs open! It's hilarious.

Awww...I'm sorry about your doggie, but glad that talking about it helps you.

I'm sure my cat Libby is inbred. The lady I got the cat from wasn't taking care of the cats/kittens. In fact when I received her as a kitten, she was full of fleas. All of her brothers & sisters are dead, because one of the cats got Leukemia and passed it on to the others. Anyway, this cat is scared of everything. She's always puffing out her tail and arching her back when she sees my other cat. Hello....we've had you for 4+ years, it's a cat you know.

Also, her temperment is very inconsistent. One minute she lets you pet her, the next she is literally attacking you by biting, and clawing. Sometimes I have so many scratches on my arms, I cover up. I don't want anyone thinking I have a problem. Despite this, I really love her. I know that if we wouldn't have taken her, she probably would be dead with the rest of the litter. I seriously could use Caesar Milan, or a cat whisperer for her issues.

Thank you for your comfort and your stories! I wanted to share another story (not as sad, I promise!) I once had a mutant goldfish. I don't know what happened to it but over the course of about 8 months all of its scales turned black and then they all turned gold again. And then it got bigger and bigger, it grew to about 6 times its original size! Oh, and did I mention that it lived to be 5 years old! :p

That's so sad about your dog, I was near tears reading the story. He was very lucky to have you though, there are so many people who would just leave the dog to suffer and die

I haven't really had any weird pets but my 3 year old staff still acts like a puppy lol

I WISH I HAD A GOLD FISH THAT DID THAT! The only time I had a gold fish it lived for like a week and then just died.

MACATTAK - My cat get's really mean easily sometimes, I think he has an attitude problem.

aw I am sorry to hear, but glad you're able to be positive about it. Thats so cute about the beanie babies. I love when animals do funny things like that.
My cat is freaking crazy. Alot of times she will scratch on the shower door and if I let her in, she just scratches from the inside. It's so strange, I have no clue what she is trying to accomplish haha. And she takes my hair ties and puts them in her water dish! She is a nut. She also has a major attitude, she always scratches me and bites me I have a countless amount of scars all over my arms. OMG and sometimes she follows me up the stairs at night and bites my ankles/legs! It is so freaky. Haha wow I osund like a crazy cat lady right there...

That's so sad about your dog :-( Poor baby.

The only weird thing I can think of is one cat we had once that loved water. Most cats hate water with a passion... this cat once hopped into the bath with me (??!!) and also liked it when we left clothes soaking in the laundry tub, he would climb in too! We used to dread it when it was raining, because he'd come inside dripping wet and want to snuggle up (he was Persian, do you know how much water that long fur soaks up??)

He also enjoyed being vacuumed. Strange cat.

i'm pleased that you are positive about your dog. it sucks to have a pet put down but you are rigt in saying you are lucky to have had him for as long as you did. at least now you know he is at peace
smiles.gif

i have some crazy cats! dylan is beautiful to look at but a complete shit bag! the problem is he is too intelligent and is into everything! when unpacking shopping he will run off with loaves of bread, coffee pods, yogurts and cakes because he thinks it's a game! if you;re in the loo and you don;t shut the door he will sit on your lap while you're on the loo! gross! he licks the tas because he thinks that is how water comes out! and he refuses to drink from a water bowl! he drinks from a glass!!

annie our other cat is a rescue cat and is very frightened of things. she's alot better now but when we first got her every time she got scared she'd poop or pee! we had to buy new bedding ionce because she pooped all over it!!

and i once had a bunny called sam who made weird sex grunts! he'd sit there making old man sex noises!

Thank you all again for your comforting words, I really appreciate it. I also really love the stories that you all are telling, they really make me smile!
LMB84, your Annie reminds me of my late german shepard. If we didn't take him out to the bathroom first, if the guest would try to pet him he would pee the floor. My mother is 5'2", rail thin, and he used to hide behind her when guests would come over. Don't they use german shepards as police dogs?!? Aren't they supposed to be brave? Some guard dog hahaha!

yep they are used as police dogs! poor doggie
ssad.gif
one of my work mates really wants one of those breeds but his gf won't let him.

annie is a very special kitty! at least she's not so bad anymore... she also loves cheese! if i'm cutting cheese she has to have some or she won't be quiet!

I had a female German Shepherd that had almost the exact allergy issues yours did. Mine also had perianal fistulas that could not be cured by the multiple surgeries she had, but could only be suppressed by the drug they give transplant patients. Which is way expensive with out medical insurance to cover it. So since I could not afford the life time drug treatment, I had to put my 6 yr old girl down. She has been gone for 10 years now, but I still have her ashes sitting on my bookshelf. Was a truly a sad day when I had to let her go.

On a lighter note, I have a deposite down on a DDR/East German, German Shepherd puppy. His parents are imports and are a much healthier bloodline. But knowing my luck... (I won't say it) lol

My cat sometimes just sits in the shower and waits for the water to come out. But I've never heard of a cat liking a vacuum. That's strange.

I have two cats, Whiz And Griffin. They are the strangest cats EVER I swear! Griffin has this problem where he gets far too excited... He will knead this blanket I have and well yeah. I swear he is fixed! Whiz likes to lick plastic bags. Why I could not tell you. Also the other day I went into the washroom to have a shower and Whiz was sitting on the counter facing the wall and he stayed there while I showered and apparently was still there when my dad got home from work! Oh and if you are eating something, Griffin MUST have some of it, he will stand there meowing and trying to get the food out of your hand. This one time my friend was over (who btw is afraid of cats) and she was standing eating a piece of pizza. Griffin runs over and starts trying to climb up her leg! He has no manners
tong.gif
He is also quite afraid of people so this was particularly strange! I have so many other stories but this post is already quite long

Hahaha, my cat loves ham and cream cheese. Once I left my bagel with cream cheese up on the kitchen counter (which my cat KNOWS she is not allowed on) and I came back to my cat licking the cream cheese off of my bagel, I was so mad!
