Erm..it's November on Saturday (already!), and I found myself thinking about what I was gonna buy my boyf as his main Xmas pressie last night.

I've already bought him a load of clothes over the past few wks but know that his mobile is on its last dying legs and he's a complete gadget nut so I'm gonna get him the Apple I-phone as his main pressie.

I just love seeing his lil' face light up when he unwraps my pressies - it's one of the best feelings!

What are you guys buyng your OH's (other halfs)?

Why is it so many people associate Christmas with buying gifts?
This is why I am not a fan of Christmas anymore..too commercialized.

These companies have brainwashed people into believing that the only way to show you care is to buy gifts... what about the spending time with family or sharing the privileges that we have in our lives with people who are less fortunate?
Dont mean to dis your post but to me.. Christmas is about the birth of Christ not about getting into a frenzy at the mall fretting about what I am going to buy someone.
Just having my friends and family around me is gift enough.

My BF and I give /get gifts from each other all year long, so it becomes a little hard to come up with gift ideas. So one yr we decided to not buy anything and take a trip instead.I enjoyed it! but I also enjoy giving too!

We're getting a new surround sound system for our entertainment centre, which is more like something for "us". We're not into lovey dovey gift giving traditions of Christmas/Valentine. We both find it kinda cheesy TBH. We wanted this surround sound system for a while and we're getting it for Christmas since we're driving to DC and we think it'll be cheaper there than here in Canada

I don't know. We always agree to not get gifts b/c we are always "broke". Yet, we always have something to give each other, lol. His gift almost always upstages mine too.... grrrr. J/K I know it's the thought that counts.

I usually wait till about December 15 before I make any decisions. My hubby always wants the latest gadgets, so i'm going to wait and see if any computer compnents go on sale. He really wants a blu ray burner to complete our new server station he just built... (yea, we're some geeks to the 0840329804830284th degree). So, I'm going to see if I can score one for Christmas. Preferably for the low low price of ...eh.. on the house, lol. Yea right, I wish.

He said he wanted to write more, so I got him this cool journal that's made with this home-made paper and stuff, I already gave it to him because I was afraid he wouldn't like it, but he did!
I'm also going to get him this yummy cologne from Sephora that's he's been wanting since August. (Plus it's a great reason to hit up Sephora! Haha.)

Yeah Christmas became commercialised years ago, but that has never influenced my decision on whether to buy gifts or not. I've never been that person "getting into a frenzy at the mall" either. Not my style.

What your saying is kinda obvious though, of course Christmas is about family and loved ones and celebrating the birth of Christ - but the exchange of xmas gifts isn't something that started 2 years ago is it

- I don't see what the problem is.

It's the thought that counts and I don't think people are so stupid to think that if they don't give gifts then it means they care any less about their loved ones.

Christmas is almost here and naturally millions of couples worldwide will exchange gifts. I just thought it was a fun, harmless thread to start.

That is seriously what Christmas is about.I completely agree with you. There is way too much craziness surrounding it now.Without Christ there wouldn't even be Christmas.I mean I like the presents too,but yeah, that is more important.

To you maybe, but for a vast amount of people Christmas now has very little or nothing to do with religious practice. It certainly doesn't for me, I'm an atheist but we still celebrate Christmas for the traditional and family aspect and I'm totally fine with that. What's right for some may not be right for others. I find the whole spiel about Christmas being about Jesus and Christ and that it's become "too commercialized"...I find it kind of holier-than-thou. (lol no pun intended) We don't buy lavish presents either but why spoil other people's fun?

That being said, I have no idea what to buy for my man. But I do know I'm going to buy myself a new laptop for Xmas lol!

We're moving into our new apartment the week of Christmas, so we're probably just going to be buying utilities for each other this year lol

ETA: We're done buying each others gifts! I bought him water and he bought me electricity lol

We are actually buying each other the i-phone this year, since our service expires so we'll be switching. I'll most likely buy him some clothes and a gift card to the game store

I didn't say people think that if they don't give gifts they don't care. I said companies insinuate that. Take a look at the commericials that will start coming on.. stating.. show them that you care.. etc. It's all a ploy for sales.

Didn't say there was anything wrong with the thread just giving my opinion like everyone else has.

We buy gifts for each other around Christmas 'cause it's about the only time of the year we have money with uni/polytech out and the extra hours at work. That and birthdays are really the only times we specifically save up enough to get something nice. *shrugs*

Moving on; this year I'm getting my man thing a Logitech 5:1 speaker system with adjustable bass and all that jazz (for the computer). 'Cause who doesn't like the screams of headcrab zombies coming from behind you as well? I'll probably get him some new clothes, and deposit a big chunk into our 'new computer' fund which he is very gung-ho about.

If you think that anyone's opinion of Christmas being about the birth of Christ
holier than you .. then so be that person.
Though no one knows exactly when the exact date of the birth of Christ was.. the Catholic Church appointed December 25 as the day to celebrate his birth.

I am not a fanatical religious person but I accept the truth of what Christmas is really about. And that's my opinion.

My husband and I haven't exchanged gifts in years. We don't want to find ourselves in the place of "I need to find something that will wow!" because it's hard not to keep upping the ante year after year.

Instead, we usually buy something for the house that we'll enjoy together like a new tv, surround sound, wine fridge, etc. Speaking of wine, our gift to ourselves last year was a package of wine-tasting dinners at a local restaurant. Six courses and six wines scheduled once a month. It's been a great experience sitting with different couples (usually 25-40 people attend each mont) and experiencing different foods and wines. It made for a whole year of amazing pre-paid date nights.
